This is from the second page of a Page 2 article by Bill Simmons:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/050701&num=2

about the 40 most valued (untouchable) players in the NBA, which follows the oh so predictable bashing of the Knicks that we see on a consistent basis from ESPN.com "experts."

Stephon Marbury (20) ¡V Partly because he's the three-time MVP of the "When he's your best player, you better start thinking about who's representing you at the lottery drawing" team, partly because anything's possible with Isiah as the GM. Hey, that reminds me ¡V do you think Phoenix's brain trust was sitting around when the following exchange happened:

- GM Bryan Colangelo: "God, Q sucked in that Spurs series, we gotta get rid of him."

- Coach Mike D'Antoni: "Come on, nobody wants a guy with a bad back who chokes in big spots?"

- Colangelo: "Just for the hell of it, should I call Isiah and see if we get Kurt Thomas for Q and a No. 1?"

(Colangelo and D'Antoni laugh hysterically for five seconds. Then they stop laughing.)

- Colangelo (grabbing phone): "You call his office, I'll call his cell!"

I gotta say, I understand their criticisms, but this case it just seems strongly premature to pass such judgement. If Q stinks it up and Robinson turns out to be a bust, while KT helps the Suns go to the Finals or win it all, then Simmons can write all he wants, but to argue like this is a dumb trade seems at this point to be....

dumb.

KT is not of use to this team anymore, Q is younger and we got Phoenix's pick in THIS years draft which has been labeled "deep" by many "experts", as oppossed to another draft when the pick could very well be lower than 21 and not as deep. But does anyone really need to argue this point here? Well, for Bill Simmons apparently so, unless he has some crystal ball that we are all unaware of.

We'll see what happens, but this "stupid trade that only an organization like the Knicks would make" stuff is SOOOO tired. It reeks of a socially awkward person's pathetic attempt to sound clever when it's really like telling the same corny joke to the same people over and over again.

No one was downing Q when he was hitting huge shots for the suns on the way to 62 wins, he comes to NY and all of a sudden he sucks.. typical ESPN BS, they are all azz wipes there anyway... The funny thing is that marion was the biggest bust of the playoffs, colangelo and D'antoni took two players in Q and marion and had them completely change their games to fit their style, if anything it was the suns style of play that killed them, not the players...

guys, it's not ESPN, it's Bill Simmons, a guy from Boston who thinks Larry Bird is the greatest basketball player ever, hates Isiah Thomas and hates the Knicks. He'd take potshots at the Knicks if they made the Finals. He's a relentless homer. Don't worry about a thing he says...

You may be right about Simmons, but he's not the only analyst at ESPN.com that comes down on the the Knicks whenever they get the chance. Ford, Mitch Lawrence and Aldridge (although now on TNT). Kerr, are also big on downing the Knicks whenever they can, as if they are the only ones who know more about B-ball than Isiah Thomas. There are others who particpate as well, but I think ESPN gets into it because it feeds into the anti-NY sentiment around the country when it comes to sports (as with the Yankees). Interestingly, it really is a love-hate relationship, because I think many LOVE to hate NY teams so ESPN, I believe, is just following the Rupert Murdoch model of journalism...

The same thing happened in the draft too; the Suns pick Nate, it's a great pick, he's a great player, great defender...
They hear about the trade, and all of a sudden he was picked a little early. Typical NYsport hating

exactly, and had david lee been picked by the celtics instead of the knicks, he would be tabbed as the "steal of the draft".....

Let me tell you about another player with a bad back...his name is T-Mac and he lights it up on a nightly basis. ESPN can talk all the garbage they want - but a bad back doesnt translate into crippling a players ability to play the game. Q will just have to suck it up and play through it or get a night off every once in a while.

It was a good trade for the Knicks...and when KT was on NY nobody gave him respect so why start giving it to him just because he is on PHX? I dont see KT putting them over the top at all.

Yeah, I agree with that. Simmons is almost funny about it, but some of the other guys are vicious. But, I mean, I think they are giving the majority of this country what it wants.

At least Greg Anthony and Stephen A. Smith are usually nice to the Knicks. And you can tell Walton loves the Knicks. My favorite Walton line was from March 2000 (I guess he wasn't on ESPN then, but), the Knicks were blowing out someone like the Suns or the Kings and were about to win 12 in a row and after a Spree drive Walton goes: "What's happening in New York is REAL." Sorry, this has nothing to do with anything.

Well, like somebody said, that guy is from Boston, they have an inferiority copmlex their for some reason, I mean the Celtics won ALOT in the past, so its really based on nothing.

And Kerr is a Bull, ofcourse he hates the Knicks.

The other few guys are prolly incompitent morons who just repeat what they hear, kinda like new york's very own sports pundits who write that David Lee was a 2nd round pick in their articles.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

please, if any Knick fan had suggested a trade of Q & a #1 for KT during the season last year, they would have laughed in OUR faces...Isiah made a good trade.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

So true! Good point. People would've said: "come on, the Suns just won 62 games and will be a better team after this season's experience. QRich was a big part of that, and he is still very young and with lots of potential. The Suns are never going to trade a 25 years old player for an old power forward in KT. They can do so much better than that!" People like Simmons that critizice this deal just do it because they are haters, because the trade was a great one for us.

People that critizice this deal are like those who had an opinion about Nate being picked by the Suns and then it changed when they saw he was coming to NY. At first, everyone was so thrilled with the idea of Nate in the Suns with their uptempo game. Then, picking Nate #21 was a great pick by the Suns. But then its announced that he is part of the KT deal and everyone starts disliking the pick, critizicing Isiah for the pick. Many then say he was picked too high. What da? It was a great pick by the Knicks, even if the haters dont agree...

what these haters don't realize, is that we wanted to trade kt for spoon and the 24!!! this deal was a powerful move made by a gm who was not in a powerful position asset-wise. and he should get credit for that.
