i love him. he's my favorite player on this squad. he brings something to the table but with the vision of an up-tempo squad, and especially after the arrival of lee, does sweetney fit?

i think every team can use a PF that plays down low and gets to the line. i think the offense can actually run through him b/c of it. but will that be utilized here?

will it go to the post and then back out to Q, craw, or steph?

will he be able to run up and down with nate, ariza, and craw?

where does he fit? and if not, when does he go?

He could be our starter, unless Lee beats him out. but if he starts thats cool hes our monster in the paint. Then when Nate comes in he sits his fat ass down because its time to run!

Our maybe we can trade him for a young player at a different position. It all depends on what teams want/need.

Sweets for Malvin Ely works. Ely is a shot blocker who could play some center for us.

Sweets for Devin Harris or Jarred jeffries work too, but can it happen is the question?

I think Sweetney can definitely fit in here. Sweets and Frye would make a nice combo at the 4-5 for the time being. If Sweetney can be dealt in a package to get a big time Low post player (Gasol, Brand) then I would definitely move him. Otherwise, Sweets and Frye can be a solid high post-low post combo. Frye would set plenty of pick and rolls and get lots of jumpers and bring a nice shotblocking presence which is essentially a big upgrade over Kurt Thomas. Sweetney would bang under the basket more. But Frye and Sweets could have a lot of potential crashing the offensive boards. If IT goes out and signs a Jerome James, he would either be our starter or come off the bench depending on how well Frye looks at the start of the season. Then we would have Lee off the bench at the 4 spot. Taylor will play when we need a veteran 4 at times or if someone goes down to injury. Malik or JYD will probably get moved.

The way Isiah is talking it almost sounds like he wants a physical big man to START next to Channing.

Honestly, I like Sweetney, but I see him moving in a trade for Kwame or Curry or someone. Then maybe Zeke uses the MLE on Jerome James.

I think Channing will start at the 4 if Zeke gets his way. I could see Channing playing the five against MOST guys, but he'd probably be able to do the best playing against a bruiser, a Kelvin Cato type the way Dwight Howard did last year.

The way I view this is like this: Isiah doesn't feel too confortable using players that he didn't pick...When he picks a player, especially from the draft, he will do the little things that will ensure that the player is well rounded...As far as I am concerned, Sweet is not an Isiah type of dude. He was picked by Layden and Isiah will strongly consider moving him now that he has a true PF in Frye that he can throw in there immediately. If he can sign Hunter or James for the MLE, look for Zeke to completely get rid of all of the Layden cats...

Sweetney might be 'fat' but he gets up the court fast- where his weight might be an issue is in endurance & that proabably has resulted in foul trouble.

And unless you're getting someone that can play with his back to the basket & can demand double teams, I'm sorry, but you need to keep him. I'm not sure Mo Taylor is the answer.

Better get back a lot for Sweets. He is young, strong and a walking double double. Yes he could be in better shape but he's still young and a presence in the post. He's our best bounder and when the ball goes into him its either a score, foul or both. He still has to learn to move his feet on D to stay out of fould trouble.

As far as running game goes-someone has to start it on defensive end

I agree. The annoying thing about Sweetney is at least two fouls a game come on pick and rolls out by the 3pt line. He tries to bump a tiny PG coming off the pick and it's so obvious and always gets called. If he eliminated that, I think he'd be fine.

Interestingly, Sweetney isn't going to Summer League this year. Jackie and Trevor are.

Sweetney definately fits here now. You can have Frye play high post. Sweetney and KT were great together. The only problem was that Kurt relied too much on his jumper. Frye has an outside shot but is also capable of putting the ball on the driving to the basket to create contract and draw fouls. I am sure if Kurt was still able to drive to the basket he would not have been traded. I think the comparisons of Frye potential game to that of Rasheed's is right on.
My only question is how much is he worth. This is the year for him, to see how much he is worth before he goes into his final contract year.

Sweets is in his 3rd year - I thought summer was for 1st, 2nd years and unsigned? I could be wrong though...

anyone can play... Bo Outlaw usually plays every year because he wants to.

Sweetney doesnt need to be there, on that topic I 100% he still has a place here. Even in the starting line up if we are going uptempo. You still need a guy that camps under the basket and pushes people around. What we need to do is keep him there and away from the perimeter where he gets killed.

I think there are some rules about the summer league. It would have been his 3rd straight. What he needs to do is to hire himself a trainer. He is no longer a rookie. I am worry about Sweetney, I think he seriously has a eating disorder. I personally saw him finish off 2 huge portions of soul food dishes. He eats like JYD but I don't know if his workout regime is the same.

One thing I think Sweets is surprisingly capable of is playing up-tempo. He's actually fast. And when he gets down the court & gets in the post quickly....good things happen. I think the weight doesn't hurt him in getting up & down the court.

I think where it hurts him is:

a) with fouls caused by fatigue
b) finishing (he really should be getting some more "and 1's"...rather than just going to the line

That's exactly what will happen if Isiah can make it happen--Sweetney will be gone and Frye will be at the 4 next to a quality starting center.
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

If you trade Sweetney, who can get you points in the paint? Mo? That's not enough.

Sweetney still fits. This team needs his rebounding up front. And he isn't that bad at running...he just needs to build up stamina (which he can do by losing a little weight, but I don't think he needs to drop that much).

We'd have to get a lot in return. The reason he's not playing summer league is cause they want to get Frye and Lee as much time as they can.

I like Sweets, but if we are gonna trade him....

NO KWAME BROWN!!! I thought Isiah said he wanted a QUALITY center?!?

It's a waste of text even discussing that bum. IMO we can get a much better player for Sweets (IF we end up trading him).
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!
