NY trades Sweets, Crawford, Rose & JYD to the blazers for Theo Ratliff & Derek Anderson. Trade ID # is 2450418. NY gets a shot blocking center in Ratlif plus a cheap replacement at the SG with Anderson. We get rid of 3 long term contracts as well as 2 PF's. Blazers do it and get great character & hustle guys plus youth.

C = Ratliff
PF = Frye
SF = Ariza
SG = Q
PG = Marbs

B-E-N-C-H

C = Lee / Butler
PF = Mo Taylor
SF = TT
SG = Anderson
PG = Nate

Very athletic bench for NY plus we cut H2O & Penny. That leaves us with 11 players under contract and still have the midlevel to use
Isiah Thomas will lead us back to the playoffs in 2006 !!!

Agree with the spirit of the trade, but I think Sweetney and Crawford is too much to give up, as Ratliff showed some serious decline in his game last year, and Anderson's never really been the same since the injuries. Can't trade youth for 2 major injury question marks on the downside of their careers.

If there is a player that I'd like to get from Portland its Przybilla. He is really on rise and was awesome as a starter for the last 30-40 games of the year...something like 8+ pts 10+ and 2.5 blocks.

I agree that is is way too much for these players. Sweetney and Crawford have yet to play their best ball, they aren't close of their prime. While the trade tries to balance the roster, it fails in getting equal value for the players given up. We are practically a young team now, thats Isiah's direction. I don't think this is the kind of deal he will be seeking this offseason...

I would do it if they gave us Travis Outlaw.

Ratliff and DA are shot... you give up good players and get ones back that cant stay on the court.

I was thinking something more along the lines of TT and JYD for Ratliff and Patterson.

I would dislike giving up JYD for Patterson, but Portland would probably want to include him in any Ratliff trade. TT for Ratliff is a no-brainer for me, but you have to make sure Ratliff is healthy enough to play a good 20 minutes a night.

I want to aim much higher with TT's expiring contract. I'd like to get a young, very good player even if it means taking back a bad contract.

i'm on board with ratliff, but want to keep it simple. if we could pick him up for cheap if portland waives him under the new CBA, i'd do that in a second. or, send them, say, mo T and JYD for ratliff, they can then waive mo. or use TT as the principal piece from our side, but with that much cap relief they'd have to throw in something for the huge cap break they get. travis outlaw would be nice. i'd consider giving up sweetney to make it happen.

that's a bad trade, no offense...unless we're getting back POR's unrestricted 1st rounder next year in the deal, it's not in our favor.

portland is going with a youth movement, letting guys like stoudamire and abdur-rahim walk this summer. they'll end up tanking by the end of the season when all is said and done. no way they give up an unrestricted first rounder in any trade. i do think grabbing one of their young guys we think would fit and have a shot here would be much more realistic. or else, it would have to be a protected pick for years down the road.

then you say no thanks...giving up Crawford & Sweetney is way too high a price to just get back 2 older vets & an unproven young player like Outlaw.
