At the Chicago pre-draft camp:

Frye bench pressed 185lbs 19 times, among the leaders.

Other bigs:
May: 12
Turiaf: 15
Taft: 14
Villanueva: 11
Diogu: 21
Bogut: 13
(A few years ago, Sweetney only managed 3!)

Some high schoolers/International prospects:
Green: 7
Andriuskevicius: 0
Webster: 7

Vertical Leap:
Frye measured at 31"... matching Diogu/Villanueva... but falling behind Bogut (33.5), Taft, and May (33). Gerald Green soared at 39"...

Lane Agility (lateral movement):
Frye was relatively slow, at 3.38 seconds. Diogu was slower, though at 3.45... Bogut was very slow at 3.5+

While this is by no means definitive... physically he's in good shape for someone his height.

So his vert is less then Bogut's whose only weakness is supposed to be lack of athletic ability?

Great.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

No he is taller than thought. That is w/o shoes. Look at Chris Taft's height. He has been constantly listed as 6 10 in shoes. Which is right height.

Great.

the vertical they do at the combine is a one step and jump. Most guys take their REAL jumps with a few steps. Frye is one of those guys. So was Anthony Mason. Mason couldn't even dunk with a one step jump. He needed two steps. Think about it, in a game, when you're running over to grab a rebound or block a shot, you usually have more than one step. Frye is far more athletic than Bogut.

what this one step jump shows is that Bogut has stronger legs than Frye. This is one of Brigg's main criticisms about Frye - that he has a weak base stregth. But he's working on it and only jumped 2 inches lower than Bogut and he lifted far more than Bogut. So it seems like he's closing the strength gap. he's far quicker and athletic compared to Bogut. Bogut's advantage had always been strength and size, and while he is a legit two inches taller than Frye, they have the same standing reach, meaning Frye's arms are much longer, Frye has stronger arms obviously and can jump almost as high WITHOUT a running start, much higher with one and is far quicker from side to side and up and down the court. Frye is the more athletic player.

Frye, at 6'9.5" is still plenty tall--- and his 9'2.5" reach matches Bogut's. Considering his 7'2.5" wingspan, he did well to bench press that many times. Also, at 240+lbs, he already weighs more than Marcus Camby, and matches Ewing's listed weight (240).

Bogut also plays very physically... and he's also got very solid court vision and passing skills-- those will be his main advantages over most other centers.

For comparisons sake: over the years, there have been plenty of centers more physically gifted than Brad Miller, but less effective. Miller's lack of raw athleticism "helped" him get undrafted a few years back. Now he's easily a top 5 center in the NBA (and one of the best passing big men).

What's your point? That Bogut's a better prospect than Frye? Thanks, Einstein!

Remember when we first looked at this list? SOmeone pointed out that the height added from shoes varied greatly - some added 1" to height while others 2." It's not standardized.

He's a very good athlete for someone his size... with a good skill set. But like Taft, will he come to work every day?

bitter bitter bitter.

If we get him I propose that you and Briggs take him to a Welcome to New York dinner.

it would be the best sign of fan support since Silver took Allan out for that night of Happy New Contract whoring!
