6-10, 230, 19 years old and defensive minded. Very interesting guy to consider late in the draft...

Hey! Very interesting! You know the player has some potential when he is projected that deep but still has a good scouting report.

But you know what's strange: on his scouting report he is presented as 6'10" but on the actual mock draft he is listed as 6'9". There are many people that love to do that!

Considering that nice scouting report, he would be a great pick at 54 if he is avaliable. Wouldn't if be great to find another sleeper in the second round?!

This is another one of those players that entered the draft a year or two earlier than most people expected him...that might be why he's rated lower right now. An athletic 19 year old, 6'9/6'10 whatever always is provides some intrigue though. There's a blurb about Mahimini here that says he was playing well and contributing for his team in the French league playoffs...

He also apparently played for international team at the Nike Hoops Summit game, which I unfortunately missed. I can't find how he did there, but I know that Martell Webster, Louis Williams, Monta Ellis etc. played for the US in that game.

Thanks for the info. Its always intriguing when a player gets in the draft too early and has a lower projection than others (Bynum?). I think this would make a great 54th pick, hopefully no one takes him early. Leave him on the NBDL until he proves he is NBA ready and we get rid of our 100 PFs...

Interesting info (game stats) from Petro on the article. Seems to be a very good rebounder...

Good find. Mahinmi could be the kind of player that we could draft at 54 and leave in Europe for a year or two while he develops strength and skills. He looks like another Nazr Mohammed, which means he's excellent value in the second round.

Ian Mahinmi
(France; C; 1986; 6’10”; 20.6 mpg, 7 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.8 bpg)

One of the most pleasant surprises of the tournament was this 6’10” French and very athletic paint player. His vertical leap is simply amazing for a guy of his size. He can jump out of the gym to grab a board or to block a shot. 7.4 rebounds and 1.8 rejections are not bad at all for 20 minutes of playing time, although he needs to improve positioning and timing. He is extremely raw, but he already shows some incipient movement in the low post and—what’s really important—a very good attitude. This kid works very well without the ball to position himself under the basket. As yet he shows neither midrange nor, obviously, perimeter skills.

Add this kid to my wish list at 54 with a current value board for 54 at Moussa Badiane, Lucas Tishcer, Ian Mahinmi

I think I like Deji Akindele at 54. He is supposed to be so so athletic and all that.

This kid sounds like a younger, more raw version of Ronny Turiaf, who I really like at 30. If we go a different direction at 30, I'd definitely like to take a look at this guy at 54.

Unbelievable. This guy went to SA in the FIRST round!

San Antonio is starting to look like a team that plays overseas. So many International players. But obviously someonme was doing there homework if SA takes them this high.

Yeah the Spurs apparently did a bunch of homework and really had a conviction on this guy. I thought he'd be an interesting risk, but I never thought he'd be a first rounder!
