I didn't remember and was curious if these two PGs were drafted the same year. It turns out Fox was drafted 2017 and JB in 2018.
Fox was #5
JB was #33.

If someone asked you in 2019 who was the better prospect I think every single person would have said Fox. Now in 2026, JB is playing at an MVP level leading his Knicks to the promise land while Fox is like the 4th option on his team (5th? 6th???). Just so weird how these things play out and how PROFESSIONAL talent scouts can't predict these things. JB was passed on by every single team in the league.

Here are some other players picked in 2017:
#3 Jason Tatum
(#5 Fox)
#7 Markkanen
#8 Ntilikina
#13 Donovan Mitchell
#22 Jarrett Allen
#23 OG Anunoby
#29 Derrick White
#30 Josh Hart
#43 Isaiah Hartenstein
#44 Damyean Dotson (one pick before...)
#45 Dillon Brooks

Here are some other players picked in 2018:
#3 Luka Doncic
#5 Trae Young
#9 Kevin Knox
#10 Mikal Bridges
#11 SGA (before included in the worst trade in NBA history)
#12 Miles Bridges
#17 Donte DiVincenzo (wish he was still coming off our bench)
#26 Landry Shamet
(#33 Jalen Brunson)
#36 Mitchell Robinson

Basically, 31 dudes who had no business being drafted before JB (outside of Doncic, arguably)
Atlanta passed on him THREE times (Doncic (traded for Trae Young), Omari Spellman (who?), and Kevin Huerter)

As an aside, 4 of our starting 5 and 2 main bench players were drafted in those two drafts.

that was one of the strangest sequences I can recall, precisely because there were no infamous hotheads involved -- capped off with Richard Jefferson of all people complaining about the refs for not calling a tech on Spurs.

Fox IMO had a slow start to his career when he seemed more interested in his cantilevered hairdo than his game. Ironically, Mike Brown is probably most responsible for(other than Fox himself) for elevating his game.

Guys, He was tryiing to change the energy of the game.
He is a vet of many seasons and they want to win.
Not sure about the timing, but SAS did come back from a lead, actually took a lead. Maybe it worked but who won the game? Who did not take the bait? The team with the mental fortitude, poise, and presence to not throw the ball away at critical moments. KNicks are not perfect but they played with enough to push past bad reffing, clown music, and good play.

SAS will scratch, claw and try to intimidate, get in knicks heads, and off their rhythm.
Remember when Spurs hip checcked Steve nash into the scorers table? It worked. Expect more attempts of intimidation.
Knicks are trying to do the same with SAS and their youth. Get them emotional which expends energy and causes distraction. The game within the game. Thunder got Castle a bit out of sorts at times. They still have much to learn.

Fox is not a punk. He is doing his job. Jalen did his. Lead by example. Not saying take **** without pushing back but do it without impunity and optics that ref will punish or motivate the opponent further.
There are battles and then there is the war. Win the war. Jalen knows what Fox is doing. He is also demonstratoing discipline. He did not stare back to prove his might, he became stoic to show he was still in charge.

Clyde did not stay cool to sell sneakers, He did it to save his energy and stay in the moment. He tells you this in his book and over the years breen asks him about it.

If you think he is a punk, then you drop down to that level to defend ones self esteem. At that moment you showed a weakness. You win the battle by staying in control. We are not dogs marking territory. You win by owning the whole thing, not the bush that was pissed on.

From June 4th in another thread:
Nalod wrote:The Dallas Mavericks banked on the wrong core player. The crime was focusing on Doncic and then determining he as not commited to fitness or biologically gifted to sustain his temper or hold up for a full long playoff run. Are Lakers making the same mistake?

In the short run Lakers were very good this year but Doncic AGAIN broke down. Somewhere Nico has a point. I said it would take 5 years to fully get the trade but thats one point for him.
What Dallas squandered was not fully using the assets properly putting Doncic out to bid in fear he'd use leverage by not resigning? They did ask MIlwaukee as part of a Giannis trade? Rumore was that was it.

I don't fault them for signing Kyrie. They got a good version of him. Good as he was he too broke down and cost double what they could have had Brunson for.

Jason Kidd? The Great Jason Kidd, HOF player and a pretty good coach could not advocate for them to keep Brunson? He had him in practice, coached him, saw what was possible and still they still traded him? Kidd has proven to be slimey dude and while they resigned him he really has no voice? Did Kidd throw all under the bus and wanted Luka gone also? Lets be real, They made Kidd gone with a nice severence!

I know Jalen has exceeded all expectations and rumores were Cuban would have extended him but got cute and waited too long. I think he dangled him at trade deadline?

Lets be honest, there are lot of "Blame to go around" as Brunson was drafted 33rd over all.
For all the tank conspiracies and Silver blame look at the drafts where teams got it wrong. The draft is a trecherous place. Odds of lottery position matter but so does creating opportunities. The more you have the higher chance of being "Lucky". LIke Knicks get Mitch but wiffed on Knox.

This is a fun draft hin hindsight: https://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_2018.html
