Butler should be invited to Knicks summer league and hopefully he pulls an "Ariza" there so he can be signed up to a minimum contract of say 2 years with an option for a 3rd.

I think Jackie Butler is here to stay. We didnt see a full scrimmage of him or nothin but i can see potential. He is raw. But aguirre is gonna fix that. im not saying he's gonna be like pat or nothin but atleast better than mohammed

so tell me, what about him tells you he will be better than Nazr? Nazr's put up some pretty impressive games as a Knick in the past...what has Butler done to give you this impression? can someone point out the scouting reports on this guy that you're apparently basing your opinions on? i'd like to read them.

Nazr wasn't a good finisher...He couldn't create for himself, and mosto of all, he had no jumping abilities what so ever....JB is about the same size, but a little wider...I say it like this, if this dude can shoot the ball as well as they have reported, and can rebound, he will definitely be better than Nazr...He alrealdy has one good thing going for him, he is only 19, a lot of rooms for improvement..

yeah, if this kid can score, rebound, defend & block shots, he'll be an allstar...let me submit that to Knicks.com & see if i can get it put on his player profile.

btw, the fact that he's 19 years old doesn't mean anything other than that he's young & very raw...how good he can be you'll never know until he shows you something on the court against NBA level competition, just as Trevor Ariza did this season.

we've all been through this same argument w/the entire Mike Sweetney discussion over on MSG...several posters projected him the next Elton Brand, & now all of a sudden people are questioning whether he'll ever be a good starting PF in this league...my point is, let's hold off on the projections until we see how good this kid looks on the floor in real game action...scouting reports are only good for 1 thing in my mind, & that's to see how much a player is worth taking a chance on...i think it's great that Isiah took a chance on this kid, but i'm not going to assume anything about his game until i see him in live action against some NBA level competition...there's been countless examples of guys who've been great college level players who haven't amounted to anything in the NBA.

I will continue to totally support the Dermarr/Sundov/Brewer/jackson/Butler type of pickups. All it takes is one hitting to make them all worthwhile.

I think the fact that he went to the CBA after not being drafted and put up huge #s at 19 instead of disappearing is very impressive. Add that to how good they say he looks in practice and the 8pts he scored so smoothly in only 2games. Hey I'm impressed..he's no travis knight/bruno sundov!

It takes playing time for one to showcase his skills..Give him some minutes and we can say that he is garbage...Until then, 8 points in 2 minutes of play is enough for me to say that this dude has potentials...

People posted scouting reports on all of the Jackie Butler threads on this board. You can search through those threads if you're really interested in finding the info you're requesting.

I agree. When you think about what happened you could see it really shaking the confidence of a young guy. He got bad agent advice. He went undrafted. He didnt get minutes w/ Minn in their summer league. Didnt make that cut. So rather then let it affect his confidence he tears up the CBA and wins Eastern Con. player of the month twice. Thats the kind of grit and determination you want in a young guy. The $125k he will make this year is probably 6x what his household's income was growing up.

These (like Dermaar) moves are good ones.

I agree with that too. DerMarr didn't work out but it was still a smart gamble to give him a shot.

maybe Jayson Williams(ex-duke/bulls) can be another Dermarr like situation since we could use another PG so we can drop jackson. Like Dermarr he was in a seious accident.

i agree...i'm not calling the kid garbage...just saying i'll hold off on any projections until i see him do something against NBA level competition...btw, DJ was dominating in the CBA too before Isiah signed him...plus he was a former high lottery pick...forgive me if i don't get too excited over some undrafted 19 year old who's played 4 minutes in the NBA.

I agree with TMS. It is a very good gamble, and heck, he may be a sweet player for us, but at this point you just can't tell b/c you haven't seen enough from him. I'm sure he'll be spending the Summer with Aguire. Which makes me wonder what the Knicks plans are with Sweetney. I hope he stays. I really do, but I am still wondering what they are thinking with all that extra weight he has gained.

Anyway, hopefully this works out, but since it's a cheap gamble with almost nothing to lose, then it's no biggie if it doesn't work out, just like DerMarr. Speaking of him, it's nice to see him having a little success up in Denver. I was rooting for him all the way, and am glad for him now. I am hoping they make the playoffs and he shows he's got some stuff.
