If I could go back in time and revise history, I would make Julius and JB co-captains, use our stockpile of picks to find a decent starting center, and trade the ever-loving **** out of Mitch Robinson.

We’re back to being a ****-show boys. We had a few good years though.

Pretty sure this doesn't age well. Less talk. More pictures.

If so one would have to imagine he has been talking to unemployed people

+1 got to have already done some work on this

that might rule out all of the currently employed assistants, no? would he be allowed to talk to them?

I have to think he has done all of the work already right down to basic framework of a deal etc.

Firing Thibs without having the new coach essentially secured would be an enormous risk/vulnerability

Wow. Knicks move on from Tom Thibodeau. POBO Leon Rose chooses a chasing a ring over all else.

Heard in the winter that sources close to the situation believed Thibodeau wouldn’t return without an ECF appearance. A high bar, but one he met. That may have changed when the front office suggested a lineup change during the Celtics series. They, gently, suggested Robinson.

Sources say discussions of a change were met with resistance. The change coming once the team was down 0-2 in ECF also came with reports that Hart caused the change. But sources say the organization was looking for Thibodeau to break his streak of never having changed a starting lineup during the playoffs unless he was losing a series. And the change wasn’t made until he was.

End of season player meetings included discussions of the coaching staff, which Ian Begley first reported. Begs also first on James Dolan being present at those meetings. Knicks didn’t take making a potential change lightly. Have heard enough around the industry that former AHC Johnnie Bryant will be under consideration for the opening.

Leon didn't talk to either Brunson or OG before they moved teams ... kind of thing.

My dark horse is Dan Hurley.

With the coaching change I would argue that no one is safe, but there isn't a ton of room to make trades to change personnel this season.

I kike your choices and order

I was also thinking about the post about exit interviews and wondering if maybe it wasn't Thibs interview but Bryant's. Maybe something stuck in Leon's mind form last season, like Bryant saying Thibs doesn't really listen to the assistants, then Thibs goes out and gets dinosaur Mo Cheeks. If so, then the idea of adding innovation to the team through the addition of an assistant takes a hit, i.e., if Bryan reinforced the idea that Thibs is simply set in his ways

Danny Hurley!!! Perhaps he regrets not taking lakers job but being an east coast guy might be the draw?
Handing him the keys to this roster in this time is interesting. With Lakers the expectations would not be like this.
I don't love retreads but I respect Vogel, Bud and Malone and if thats where Leon wants to go I'd cool with it.

Ok if I call you Nalod, again?

Thibs was a "retread" by some measure.

I advocated for Vogel way back when post Indy days, pre- Magic but am over him. DOn't think he'd be a good fit in NYC

I think whoever gets the job is the one who gives Leon the best answer to the question "What do you do with KAT/Brunson"? That simple.

I definitely think the Kat/Brunson dynamic played a big role in this decision...nor the only role though

I like your possible dialogue from Johnnie Bryant. It matches the eye test. I think the talent on this team can out perform 51 wins.

Pretty sure you are also right that Leon Rose already has his person in mind. I kind of like an underdog. Only way to improve this team is through development. Can't really make trades.

And there is something about actually winning it (always a bridesmaid, never a bride kind of thing). Even if a team is stacked it doesn't mean you win the championship. KD's Thunder had three MVPs on the team and won squat. For all of the talent Lebron/Heat had they still lost to less talented teams too.

I think we have the personnel who are up to moments like that (some doubt about Hart but I could be wrong), but I think Thibs (who I love) was a little exposed. he lost all year to top tier talent and managed to lose a game at home where he has 99+ % chance of winning.

Hurley hiring would be as big a story as a Thibs firing -- so Leon has the nads for it. He would have a special knowledge about college talent. And he seems a step ahead -- PLUS HE WON

Bryant would take an extra level of guts; personally I'd be stunned

think it will be Malone of Bud

The logic tracks. But I think Bryant could have easily back-channeled easily through CAA to check on NY's head coach position before accepting Phoenix.

Gotta bad feeling this is the precursor of a KAT for KD swap. Yuck.

Don’t think so. It seems like Leon LOVES KAT.

There was probably stuff going on behind the scenes all season. Benching Mitch the almost the entire second half of game 6 after he kept us in the game first half probably locked it up.

Knicks Film School did a podcast with Fred Katz after the game. There was definitely stuff going on behind the scenes. Give it a listen.

This.

First conversation…

Leon: “I totally **** the bed. Any idea how to fix it?”

New guy: “Fuck if I know. It’s a conundrum. I gotta ask… what were you thinking with Kemba and EF? You royally screwed that pooch.”

Leon: “OMG, I really need to pull my head out of my ass.”

I live in Denver and there is truth there - he's an old school, hard headed, tough SOB.

Two things though in his favor....

- he got thru to Joker who got in GREAT shape & improved defensively after some tubby early years (something to think about with Kat)
- he allowed &/or forced Joker/Murray to run 2 man game over and over and over (something we totally negated with Jalen/Kat this year)

Wouldn't be my first choice.

If we're choosing between the guys that have won a title I'd take Malone over Bud based on his work with Joker.

Bud always felt soft to me.

that stinks. Sounds as much like an assistant coach failure as a head coach failure.

I remember earlier in the season seeing Deuce coach up Sims, telling him not to load up for his jumps. it's more important to have your balance and be quick off your feet than jump through the roof. I liked seeing Deuce that engaged of course, but was also wondering where was "what's his face, the supposed center's coach with the gray beard"?

Thus the required prying.

Maybe Riley goes foe the new / cheaper voice and Knicks pick up and extend Spo. Grasping at straws I know.
