![]() martin wrote:Tweet was deleted or there was problem with the URL: i can answer this - even though it's a elementary school level question. on a macro level, we've overachieved the past few years b/c masai has drafted or signed guys that exceeded their draft slot. the entire team (outside of barnes) is late 1sts, 2nd rounders or undrafted players. gary + precious + barnes + og are all 24 and younger. but barnes + precious are just starting out their development curve. basically all homeruns by masai compared to where these guys were drafted. winning these years w/ all these late picks and stuff was actually pretty amazing when you think about it. what changed? masai has not done a good job with the draft since 2019 or signings b/c he hasn't turned those late picks or undrafted signings into gold. it's really tough to continue turning those guys into high rotational producers. they haven't been good which means our depth suffered. those picks the past few years should round out the roster with rotational guys but they haven't developed into that. plus we can't make up those whiffs with mle signings b/c 1st and 2nd tier free agents don't want to go to toronto. AND the team is trying to avoid the luxury tax. last deadline, everyone thought porzingis to toronto was done but dallas changed their mind at the last minute - that was our center. this summer, indiana asked brogdon if he wanted to go to toronto or boston as they had deals lined up with both - he picked boston. so that's a huge depth piece. so things just didn't happen - but it's not for a lack of trying. the weaknesses were identified but haven't been able to close the deal. so we are top heavy, playing our guys 38+ mins a night w/ the worst bench in the league last year and this year and no "true" center. combine that with a much improved league (so much parity) then those close wins become losses. (we are 2-10 i believe in games decided by 3 points or less) - that's the difference between 6th in the lotto and possibly 6th in the east. if we go 10-2 there, then we're buyers this deadline. so there's been losses and now we have guys coming up for big contracts who are still young and want their money and their stats. all that can stay quiet when you're winning but when you're not, then sh t bubbles up to the surface. i have no clue what direction masai is gonna go with this team. gut says re-tool as i don't think he'll go scorched earth. but i wouldn't be surprised if he waited till the summer to make moves either and go strategic tank the rest of the way like he did in tampa. |

Good coaching, a schematic that works (Like the triangle back in the day) adn the right personal to execute (Larry's pistons). I can't tell how it happens. But we can't see it don't mean it can't happen. Have to keep an open mind. I remind myself KP never got us there, and neither might RJ. |

GM's these days are insane! But if I'm the Nets, Mikal is someone I keep. He's the perfect guy to have in terms of style of play, character, durability, intangibles. Suns are really going to miss him and perimeter defense will be their demise in the playoffs. |

Get a PG that can collapse the defense, get some 3 and D wings, and you're in every game. With Brunson they finally got a guy that can get to the basket. The biggest issue is our wings can't shoot. Grimes was supposed to be an elite shooter, he hasn't been so far. RJ is a walking brick. He looks so mechanical when shooting. I have more confidence in this front office than previous regimes. I believe they know how to build a team, and will eventually get it right. Unlike the last group that thought Frank was a prototypical PG. I still can't believe they watched Frank play and thought to themselves, "Yeah, this guy is the modern games Point Guard".
