Knicks should be focusing their attention on the draft and locking in real hard working role players that can play multiple positions to reasonable deals.
Now is the time to do that while teams have limited cap mobility. Revisit free agency next summer with another lottery pick in hand that can be used in a trade. We can suffer through a shortened season with no fans one more year. Just be patient.

See Mike Conley, Paul doesn’t have two more years at an Allstar level.

LOL...Revisit FA NEXT yr after another Lottery season..You mean like when Mills had 70 mill and had to over pay for role players after another lottery season.

You will surely pay some 2nd tier or 3rd tier player a boat load of money with the Cap space you think you'll be saving by not acquiring CP.

You got 8 current players on lottery contracts and 7 of them are well below avg NBA players, you want the knicks to focus on one of the weakest drafts in the last 10 yrs, add 3 more below avg players, then do what, fill the other 4 spots with veteran role players

Dude you must like the revolving door we have for coaches, players and presidents, because those are the results after lottery seasons.

Just be patient....... we've only missed the playoffs 7 straight season, in that time span, 3 different presidents, 4 head coaches, and 100 different players...OOOOKAY

Paul is a nice player - he's just old, and old things break down.

Before I take Paul on and his deal, I might prefer giving FVV $80-130M for four years - because chances are he'll be viable and producing at similar levels for those four years, given his age today.

CP is a diminishing asset with a contract that might well crush OKC.

I'm happy to take him, like I think others are, but it's a salary dump and we have to get picks or something else of value. If CP performs and leads us to the playoffs, that's gravy but not expected!

Exactly my point.

Being patient doesn’t mean executing a strategy on hope. Like let’s hire a guy that’s an assistant coach with limited head coaching skills and no development background that can’t really coach, because he is cool with players...

Let’s not fire Steve Mills and allow a guy with no real basketball mind to make free agent signings.

Had we taken on contracts like Iggy last season it would have been worth multiple picks. If we flipped Morris for Kuzma and Green we would have had an asset to package to move up in the draft and get a better player.

Not rushing isn’t a stupid move like KP for DSJR is the right move every time. It’s not our fault we choose Frank over Mitchell or Knox over Bridges, Alexander or Porter.

Implement a ****ing system, stick with a coach, develop players, don’t sign 4 power forwards to ridiculous contracts.

So we trade Knox for CP3 and he gets injured. Then what.

Best thing we can do is draft right this year and have another selection next season lower in the draft to trade for a star. Then maybe we can convince a real free agent to sign here.

Knox is going nowhere here. If it’s just him and Randle it’s a no brainer

You are absolutely correct -- no more patience -- trade picks and young players for expensive aging vets. It worked before, with McDyess, Curry, Marbury, Bargiani, Melo even...yup, that's the template for us.

Paul is not the same as McDyess, Marbury or Francis. For starters he’s actually a winning player and his contract is not that bad it’s a 2 years one of which will be a shortened 50 game season

Its all good until the injuries and then its ugly. Paul previous to his vegan lifestyle had intermittent time off the court. When he was playing with Harden they were deadly.
One good season in OKC and look at some of you and its “Savior time” that he will not only change the narrative culture by winning, but he’ll mentor it too.
If we don’t make the playoffs and he misses 25% of his games it will be seen as “Same old knicks”.
IF whom we trade him for flourishes it will look bad.
We lose cap space in year two, it will look bad.
IT really depends on the asking price. We traded Mark Jax but we did really well anyway.
MCdyess was a young player still and it was the other leg that blew out. IT sucked but there was some logic.
Starbury was still young physically. Francis compoundingly awful given Reezy’s long career.

At 84+ million over two years. They should offer Knicks a pick to unload so much salary.
If we give up ANYTHING for Paul, it will be highway robbery.
His contract is an albatross that hinders all flexibility for the next two years.

I don't intend to compare the players -- I compare the mindset. Buying high (i.e. giving up 1st round picks) for cap stringing vets. We don't know how CP3 would play out but giving up anything and taking on that big cap hit seems like the kind of s#!t we always did and got us to where we've been.

“I’ve been told by a league source that Chris Paul prefers his next basketball home to be either in L.A. or N.Y. (Los Angeles is where he resides full time) and that has created some modicum of leverage in the ongoing negotiations between the sides,” Knicks Film School’s Jonathan Macri wrote in his newsletter.

“I’m also told that there is a deal on the table that is comfortable from Sam Presti’s perspective, and the ball is in Leon Rose’s court.”

Leon Rose, the new President of Basketball Operations of the Knicks, was Chris Paul’s former agent. There is a familiarity there, and CP3 would have the same kind of veteran role that he had in OKC.

[b]With the Lakers, CP3 can play with his friend LeBron James and contend for a ring. The Lakers deal would be tricky though, especially because of Paul’s hefty contract. However, because the Lakers are in the market for a solid point-guard(now that Rajon Rondo has opted out his contract), the Lakers could splurge on CP3 and trade out a few assets

Let's put one foot in front of the other. We don't know whose deal is "on the table". It could be Lakers, Clippers, whoever. The ball being in Rose's court to match/beat whatever that deal is.

We never win that game. Our job is not to make Sam Presti happy. He needs to make *US* happy.

Reports from multiple media sources are saying it’s OKC that proposed a trade to the knicks

By "anything" I mean anything. Maybe to you his contract is "only" two years. Sure, at virtually $40 million a year. He is 35. I don't think I am alone in thinking the Knicks should receive assets to take on a cap it of that magnitude for a guy that age. If we could just transpose him onto the team well of course but that isn't the case. This is the philosophy that had screwed us to the floor for the past 20 years.

And if you feel otherwise, fine. I just hope our FO doesn't think that way.

The clippers had CP for how many yrs??? OKC already had Paul George, neither worked out well for each team, so I'm not putting much stock in that.

The Lakers don't have enough assets or expiring contracts, they already sent those to N O for A.D

So who's left?

If Rose found a way to add a couple of stars with something left in the tank. A good bench, might be up for that depending on who we got to play with Paul.

Its more likely to be a more expensive version of the 54 win season. Talented team, deep. Too many vets near retirement. If Rose is going to make big moves, just hope it isnt just for the sake of making big moves, which is an old Knicks tradition. Thats what Perry avoided, when the Knicks whiffed in free agency. Hope Rose does the same, if it comes to that.

From everything I have read it would appear they try to land him in a winning situation. Let’s be real this has not materialized quite yet. There is also a logic to bringing him in. Does it make sense? Not now. Maybe other moves first? If CP3 is a Knick there are other parts that need to make it a solid concept.

The reality is that these overpaid players are on deadend streets. Nobody is willing or can cap-space afford their sorry asses. The Knicks whom none of these players would give the time to are their only path to a paycheck in a different venue. So suddenly CP3 "wants" to play in NY OR LA (did I mention LA because LA is a really nice place to play - LA that is). But yeah new york.

F'em.

I'm sorry if I'm repeating a point but I just finished talking with some guys that actual want to trade for cp3 and hortford just to get their draft picks. So they will basically have cp3, Hortford and a bunch of draft picks to play with Mitch, RJ and Knox....

What do you guys think about this?

Depends which picks right? How many? How protected? Chance either team could be in the lottery?

What do you guys think about this?

I wouldn't be upset if that is the direction Rose wants to go. I think the biggest thing people have a problem with is the idea of the Knicks possibly giving up assets for Paul. The team isn't in the position to do that. Salary makes signing free agents rough. Plus, CP is at a point where he needs to win now. Bringing in more talent means trading more picks and then, before you know it we've regressed to the Isiah years. Also, CP would likely need load management and we'd need him to carry us. Why cash in those chips for a team that has a good chance of missing the playoffs?
