Reports are that Phil's Triangle Seminar was well attended. Some saying even Melo came to check it out.

Phil Jackson gets nice turnout for postseason class, with even Carmelo Anthony showing up to better learn offense.
Phil Jackson scratched his coaching itch and indeed ran his well-attended triangle seminar Tuesday, taking the lead on teaching the lessons of his way-of-life offense, sources told the Daily News.

Even Carmelo Anthony, who has made public pleas to broaden the coaching search beyond triangle-inclined candidates, was at the practice facility, according to a source.

Interim coach Kurt Rambis, Robin Lopez and Kristaps Porzingis were also believed to be among the group of triangle seminar attendees, with the latter still hampered by his strained shoulder but able to soak in the verbal Zen lessons. On Baggie Day last week, Porzingis, who was recently cleared to lift weights and has set an offseason goal of gaining about 15 pounds of muscle, pledged his allegiance to the triangle.

“If that’s the way it is, I’m going to keep studying the triangle, keep thinking of how I can help others in the triangle,” Porzingis said. “If that’s the system, we got to be able to play in it and play better than we did. Everybody just needs to believe in it first. That’s the thing we have to focus on.”

So the Daily news panders to the lowest common denominator and ChuckBuck wonders What would guys do that don't even have HALF the rings Phil has.

I can assume that the Miami Herald and what ever San Antonio reads won't have it as back story. One reason why I like what phil is doing and sticking by his guns is that the knicks are trying to take the path less traveled. Those who have taken it as religion have reached glory. He is trying to teach it. Fish as much as he played in it could not teach it. Rambis might be the guy.

None of this past stuff matters but if you bring out "rambis is not a good coach", well as a head coach that is true. His other credentials are solid as any young top assistant in the NBA. Phil is a teacher, and if some of you would read his books you'll better understand that when the triangle works best is when the team itself sees it, feels it and adjusts in game. He would call time out and the players in many situations coach themselves. Thats buy in. Phil was not a yeller and a screamer, he was chill because most of the coaching is done in practice. Players need to instinctively get it. Losing is also part of the teaching. You can feel when its not working and when it is.

So instead of reacting to media pandering pick up a book and understand it. As long as the knicks are trying to take this path I am rooting for it and part of it is not being "hindsight Harry", you "That Guy"...................

Knicks are attempting to show unity towards working the off season and melo if he is to recruit must demonstrate he wants to be here. This mini camp is a good thing. Team is not in the playoffs, so why the hell not!

There's a saying that goes "It's not where you're from, it's where you're at". Could be Ella Fitzgerald or Rakim, depends on who you ask. You keep mentioning 11 rings, read the book, teacher, triangle philosophies, Zen, yada yada.

How many rings has Phil Jackson won this decade? By my count Pat the Rat and Coach Pop have more this decade than your idol. Do we have Phil Jackson the coach or do we have Phil Jackson the failed experiment of an executive at the helm of the New York Knicks?

Perspective, man. Phil hasn't done shyt since he left Kobe, Pau, Bynum, Odom, and Fisher-man back in LA-LA land. Past is the past, he's simply cashing Cablevision checks at this point, maybe keeping tabs on and refreshing Jim Buss LinkedIn status a few times a day.

Nice gesture from Jackson.
I also love that players who will likely be here next season in Porzingis, Grant, Galloway, RoLo all came to this mini-camp and got a better idea of what they need to be doing in the offense. They'll have a clear objective now in the offseason as to what to work on.

Some things for me that stood out in the season for some of the "key" players for next season.

RoLo - Hold the ball less in the post, make the decision quicker to make a move. Either make the move in the post, or pass the ball.
Porzingis - Establish better habits in moving off the ball, especially coming into the post. He often gets caught just staying out on the 3 point line, but he started doing better once Rambis took over
Grant - Holds on the ball too long. A little better in the 2nd half of the season but still not impressed with his basketball IQ for a point guard. Has to get the ball out of his hands early, or we should consider utilizing him as a 2, with someone else bringing the ball up. Liked his play after the all-star break. Looked like a starting caliber player or a good backup. Can this continue for an entire season?

Yeah cuz it's a bad thing having the greatest coach teach his players. SMH. This kind of thing can only help. I've never heard of a team doing this but I do remember Phil and Rambis doing seminars before. Perhaps this is allowed if it's not mandatory.

I thought you said the key was upgrading the backcourt?

What's the point of a two day seminar with mediocre guards?

Phil should be exploring ways to upgrade the roster. He's not the coach, he's the President. If he's gonna coach, he should coach.

He should be searching for a coach.

Instead he is running an ego workshop while the TWolves lock down Thibs. Wolves will have a better record than the Knicks next year.

If Phil's job is President of the team, I'm not sure I see how this helps anything. He's already settled on Rambis without having a single in person interview with another candidate.

This is kind of weird to me. You're assuming organizations can't do 2 things at 1 time. And if the greatest coach out there is teaching player and ball movement to KP, Grant, Wroten and anyone else that will show up.... that's not a good thing? It is, right?

The Knicks are not winning a championship within the next 2 years unless they sign LeBron or Westbrook next year. Continuity is probably the best thing for the young Knicks players in the mean time.

THE most important thing for the Knicks is growth of KP, Grant, Wroten (if he is physically able).

Papabear Says

Which one of those players are Kobe, Shaq, Jordan, Pipen? Phil Jackson can teach all he want to but without the star players the Triangle means nothing in New York. Kobe and Shaq would have won with out Phil Jackson and so would Jordan and Pipen.

Funny because Kobe has directly quoted "they don't win titles without Phil coaching." But hey... that's just Kobe talking. You might be more informed? Feel free to add more info... inquiring minds want to know!

This is a very weak post! Phil went to 3 Finals just before the end of his Lakers run. He just took over here and is rebuilding this franchise! Seems pretty clear that he's doing his job building the foundation here.

not that clear to me. He has to show me some guards of quality. Having our best guard on the roster right now being Tony Wroten is not a good look.

Melo is getting older and not any cheaper, Rolo is good but possibly a misfit in some way, KP has lots of upside but he still has a lot to prove.

Phil has a lot of splaining to do unless he gets us some real guards. Why he did not at least pick up a guard like DJ Augistin last season is strange.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I thought you said all the Daily News did was print lies and no one should ever read it?

I tend to think they do a decent job, but you tend to quote them when they agree with your perception and call them trash when they write something you don't like.

I actually think it's too early to predict how the season will go. Who knows how Free Agency will work out? What if there's a trade? I mean there are just too many unpredictable things that can happen. My point about this summer being active is already looking very possible. We have the activity around the development of our young players and of course Free Agency and the coach search.

Never said it was a money grab. To me the negative about this thing is that it means he's not really looking for a coach. Thibs is close to signing with Minnesota, JVG interviewing in Houston. Phil didn't even give them a call.

I was pretty clear in my first post that my issue was limiting the coaching search and doubling down on the Triangle.

Also, this quote from KP doesn't exactly sound glowing, more like he's saying "it is what it is."

He doesn't exactly sound super enthusiastic about the Triangle. I have no problem with the seminar, practice, meeting, whatever. But this whole thing also shows what a mistake the Fisher move was and how poorly it was handled, since Phil never came close to doing this when Fish was here.

I thought you said all the Daily News did was print lies and no one should ever read it?

I tend to think they do a decent job, but you tend to quote them when they agree with your perception and call them trash when they write something you don't like.

Man what are you babbling about? I attacked ISOLA, not the entire newspaper. Also I very much dislike the unnecessary sarcasm and digs the media often takes but not the facts presented. Who ever has a problem with facts? Did you see the back page above?
