Mister Earl showed up in a game thread a few days ago. Hope he is back as well.

And if I'm not mistake he explained to Martin why he hasn't been around. I may be wrong but he ls been busy. I doubt someone Earl's age who's seen so much in his life is going to be that sensitive

Not responding specifically to Earl but I was referring to guys coming back and saying they don't like the content of posts. Threads always end up at the same place. I don't think that is being sensitive. I think that is just moving on because things have changed.

What exactly has changed? The Knicks traded every single asset they had for one player. Despite one fluke year where we went for it and added high IQ veterans it had been the same ol Dolan era Knicks laughing stock basketball of the past 15years. You can't expect fans to wave the poms poms if they are not seeing positive results and forward movement and a winning culture being established. Would you say Woody/Melo ISO ball was establishing a winning culture and building a consistent playoff contender? Maybe a couple of fans left because they felt we just traded for one of the top 3 players in the game why shouldn't we all celebrate and erect statues but the results proved that it wasn't the case

What you just said. Everything goes back to the trade and Melo. Five years of rehashing it does get old. The summer was spent with media and fans trying to speculate about how Melo was being a bad teammate. Not much fun in my opinion.
truthfully melo probably earned some of the backlash, he probably would admit that. However he seems to have learned from his mistakes
I disagree. The Knicks haven't had money, picks or players for his entire tenure in NY. Any team that has Amare, Bargs and Tyson as two of its big three a long with their cap holds isn't going anywhere fast. Some of the guys that were big parts of Knick teams aren't in the league or don't play. Fields, Novak, and Cope come to mind but there are others.
well the reason we havent had picks, money,or players is because of that trade. Its ok to be a LITTLE critical of melo
Melo didn't make the trade. He just wanted out of Denver before the lockout/new cba. The knicks had traded their picks to get cap space to sign lbj. Only one first rounder was traded in that deal.
thats true but i still felt he could have waited to sign here. Can we at least admit he has made some mistakes since coming here. Im not asking you to bash him but he definetly has had a few misteps
I am not sure what you mean. On the court, off the court? He definitely has made on the court mistakes. He isn't a perfect player. I think the Knicks come out of the 2011 trade deadline with Melo or DWill and I think they got the better guy. Walsh wanted two stars. Unfortunately he put the knicks in a really bad position with the Amare signing. Also, not a big fan of trading your lottery pick and a first rounder for cap space. But no I don't think Melo has done anything that warranted the summer of speculating how he was being a bad teammate.

Right now it's about now and the future. Who gives a F about the past! . We finally have what looks like a young star in KP along with a proven star in Melo! On top of that a team full of team players and youth. It's beyond stupid to be complaining about stuff from the past. We've got so much positive stuff going on!

i mean on the court. Off the court he seems like a decent guy. Its good to have loyalty to a player but pointing out mistakes/weaknesses isnt a bad thing. So far he looks like he learned from past mistakes on the court

Sometimes if you want to talk about the Knicks it just ends up there. But I agree. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about KP. The kid is ridiculous. Only 20 years old. Also, the team is all high character guys.

Which is exactly what I attempted to point out to Chuck earlier.

It's time.

ok ... lets say just a star or whatever level. He needs to move the ball and not think of himself as the first option every time he touches it.

After tonight, melo is about his career avg for assists. Not the great new improved melo that everyone is gaga about.

He may becoming the highest paid decoy of all time.

Again, after KP has arguably his best game as pro in a win… what are you and Chuck fixated on…

Point made.

tickled pink tonight ... talking about the bigger picture.

No you aren't. You're relitigating a game already played and won.

You said it yourself, he's AVERAGING around his career figures. Which means tonight's 0 has no predictive value for the next game or any other game. He's gonna have his 5s and his 4s and his 3s and 2s etc…

You're fixating over something that doesn't represent his game, because what's most interesting to you in a road game won is a poor showing in one or two statistical categories.

Not big picture - micro picture, of a successful team outing now in the past.

that is not interesting to me tonight, its what I care about every game. If he has a good passing, I call it out too. I am fixating on melo's passing and have been for too long.

every season I go into it with new hope that this is going to be the year that Melo realizes what he needs to get to the next level and becomes the unselfish player that we need him to be.

I am a jilted fan what can I say.

Not all this.

You seem to phase in and out of being very reasonable.

Surely you can see the Melo vs. Porzingis dynamic that gets so much run around here is utterly and strangely irrelevant.

I have not been part of the him vs. KP stuff

I consistently ride melo for not passing and will do it after every game that he doesn't.

Right, because that'll help.

help? How are you helping?

I'm not.

I'm having an exchange with someone I can communicate with directly.

You're "riding Melo" from afar and he'll never hear it. Hence, the inability to get past it.

True. We should all stop praising him too.

I am looking for group therapy to deal with my dissapointment

Be flip all you want. You aren't "riding Melo", you're very consciously looking to pick fights with your fellow fans over the same exact topic even in the light of what would have been a very surprising win just a couple of weeks ago.

Perception is reality. You and Chuck are being called out on it by several posters. I'm new enough to notice it immediately.

Melo is not going to change as a player. All YOU'RE doing is defiantly looking to repeat the same dynamic here night in and night out.

Knicks as a team HAVE changed. Good things are occurring. A couple of us are stuck in the past 4 years.

There's no disputing this.

I will praise melo when he deserves it and ride him (hard at times) when he deserves it. I am NOT gonna be ok with the "melo is not going to change" idea. He has to change if we want to get to the next level.

If you don't like that that I post about him often (and fairly IMHO) then you can put me on ignore. No need for you to come here and police the board. You said your piece now move on.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

Anytime....BTW, my season got underway this past Thursday. I'm coaching at a brand new middle school and in our first game ever, my girls won 52 to 34. We played well, but I'm upset we let them score over 30 . I'm also assisting the boys team and they won as well 65 to 56.....Ask away....

You're not riding Melo. He doesn't post here.

You're riding your fellow Knicks fans, and you know it.

Which is fine, start your own thread and ride your fellow Knicks fans about Melo all you like. I for one would support your right to do so.

But what I and others are suggesting is you and others have some perspective to not to pre meditatively turn the focus of postgame threads about the Knicks 4th victory in a row/2nd road win in a row to your acknowledged pet topic.

If you don't like that that I post about him often (and fairly IMHO) then you can put me on ignore. No need for you to come here and police the board. You said your piece now move on.

Unless I'm mistaken this forum is about about the Knicks and about community. If Melo can and should be fairly "ridden" about a shortcoming of his… well then saddle up mreinman

Okay...Good luck the rest of the way. Unless you have really experienced boys, be careful switching defenses game to game. You definitely want to have one main defense that you can rely on and practice on a day to day basis. Better to be great at one thing than okay at a bunch of things. Your defense gives you your identity at this age. Also, when coaching 8th grade boys, the more you can get them in the open court and fast break, the better.

Sometimes if you want to talk about the Knicks it just ends up there. But I agree. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about KP. The kid is ridiculous. Only 20 years old. Also, the team is all high character guys.

Thing I love about KP is his desire to be great!!! He is such a fast learner and really he just LISTENS! Coach tells him to do something and he does it. I'm so used to stubborn NBA players that it's a bit shocking to see a kid actually try to do what he's being told.

I actually think it's great seeing KP and Melo sharing the load. They have each other's back so far this year and that's a HUGE factor in this team's wins.

Last four games:

Win vs the Pelicans - Melo 29pts 13rebs

Win vs the Hornets - KP 29pts 11rebs

Win vs the Thunder - Melo 25pts 5reb

Win vs the Rockets - KP 24pts 14reb 7blks

WE HAVE TWO STARS.

No need to pick one or the other - it's wonderful to have two stars.

Fisher and the rest of the team are playing great, too. Afflalo adds a new dimension on offense. I like this team a whole heck of a lot.

Yeah, it's strange to me that some people are trying to make this a one or the other situation. KP brings rebounds and excellent defense on his low scoring nights. On Melo's off nights he can still rebound, facilitate a little, and make the gameplan for defending KP alot more complicated. They compliment eachother so much. We definitely got lucky this draft regardless of what I or some thought before the season started. We have two stars now. The team is a single piece away from being able to do something in the east in my opinion, the rest is on Fisher to figure out.

We have two very very very good players
