I like the move. While these aren't flashy moves, they are solid. Looks like the days of bringing star players who are past their prime and on their last legs are behind us. We are inching closer to relevancy and respectability with each of these moves.

Finally get one of my Baylor Bears on the Knicks! Was in a sports psychology class with Acy my senior year(didn't even know that was a thing - amazing the classes athletes get to take).

Disappointed that we're pulling the plug on Tyler, but Acy does have a huge motor. A better fit for this team. Haven't seen a huge amount of him in the NBA, but he reminded me of JYD, with Jerome being the slightly better defender.

Tyler had his opportunities last season. He had some good moments that left me excited, but he was not consistent and started seeing those opportunities go to Aldrich instead. He obviously did not impress Phil enough.

Not really a meat & potatoes kind of move, but Phil's seasoning the roster.

Great point

Excellent point. Acy, besides bringing an intensity, he also been an integral part of winning college basketball teams. During his Soph and Sr years at Baylor, they went to the South Regional finals and lost to the eventual championship teams. Duke in 2010 and KY in 2012. Acy comes from a strong winning culture.

Acy clearly fits the mold of what Phil said he wanted when he 1st came here.

No question, I have a big job ahead of me. Now that we’ve hired Derek Fisher as the new head coach, we need to bring in some new players to complement Carmelo (who has decided to stay with the Knicks), change the team chemistry and give the team more of the grit and character New York is famous for. Derek was an exceptional leader when he played for me on the Lakers and I’m certain he’ll inspire the players to meld together and play the game the right way.

Acy is a role player so in the end this isn't a big deal. We don't even know how much he'll play. It's not really the point, whether he's actually a better defender than Tyler or not. Phil likes the fit, balance of the roster and what Acy could bring to the team more than what Tyler offered and basically that's good enough for me. Phil is trying to give Fish as many tools in the toolbox as possible. Things that he believes this team will need in order to win. In the end I think we can trust his judgment more than yours so go kick rocks!!!

You've got to be kidding. You crawl out of a cave and make a dumb comment and you've got the nerve to talk about my posting? It's not that people are saying Acy is a great defensive player, but rather that as a reserve he brings a high energy level and the ability to play multiple positions. We've never seen Tyler have multiple games where he displayed the kind of manic effort that Acy is prone to having. I think that's what excites people and the Knicks brass. Here's a guy that may not get many minutes but if you put him in there he's liable to play very hard and try to make the most of those minutes. He just might provide a spark for the team and that has value.

acy, tyler, ellington may as well be named joe blow. they will have virtually zero impact on any team they play for.

no need to really break down the skills or anything like that. end of bench fodder. nothing to see here.

in related news, phil is now eyeing jamario moon, jason kopono and hedo turkoglu.

Come on DJ, it should be pretty obvious by now that Phil's master plan is to lure you back to the Knicks by landing all of your old raptor favorites!

Some speculation in one of the Kings blogs that the Kings might use a little of the cap space saved by waiving Ellington and Tyler to sign either Terrence Williams or Dahntay Jones.

Got Damn....this is an end of the bench role player? I'm sure that will not last very long. Unless his presence makes the other starting forwards play harder. He's not going to be on the bench for long, with Barbs and Amari in front of him.

Nice. Glad this guy is on the team. F5 was right with the Faried comparison but Acy has a longer wing span. He will definitely get minutes. Hopefully Early does as well.

To be honest you didn't bring anything to the table with your post. If Phil is 100% right about everything what's the point in having a message board? Sorry for being an a-hole.

My original post is just out of frustration because it seems like some fans would rather have that highlight guy like Acy as opposed to Tyler who brings a ton of energy and mainly possesses the basketball IQ at least defensively that many players in this era simply don't have. Sometimes I don't know what game everyone else is watching. The best defenses don't allow the ball to get to the middle or inside and don't lose their man off ball. Tyler did a great job of that which is somewhat rare today, particularly for a big. I'm not an expert on Acy but my money is on Tyler over the highlight reel blocks and dunks Acy gets you.

Tyler looked lost and out of shape every time he was on the floor. Sure he scored some against 3 stringers but he looked fundamentally flawed. Certainly not high IQ like you said. Looks like a guy who should've went to college first

why would you doubt a man who won 11 championships, this man is anything but a conventional thinker.

Tyler is not an energy guy or else he would still be here. I really can't knock anything phill is doing until I see the team failing.

Maybe I am missing Tyler displaying his defensive IQ. It seems like he just picks up fouls really quickly when he is on the court. Tyler has been waived three times. The Knicks have had him around for over a year. My guess is there is something about him they are aware of, he seemed to have conditioning issues at the start of summer league, that made him expendable.
