You can't seriously call this a max contract. He's making $8 mil per or slightly above the league average.

Rockets so far unable to hand deliver Lin offer sheet. Knicks refused to accept at team hotel. Glen Grunwald not at practice yest, gm today.

Rockets had a courier knocking on doors at hotel, call room. Could not get someone to accept offer sheet yesterday.

Rockets FedExed offer sheet to Knicks offices in NY, but league said GM Glen Grunwald must receive it himself. Clock to match at standstill.

All of this is high comedy, but does leave no doubt that Knicks will take every bit of three days to match, once offer sheet is in hand.

I love that when players can sign contracts on IPads, somebody is running around Vegas tryng to shove an envelope in a GM's hands.

Ha, Grunnie is p***ed!

That's stupid. He should be pissed at Dolan for not offering Lin a contract. Houston did nothing wrong.

well his first 2 years are fine, but his 3rd year at 15m is a max players salary.
If he continues his Linsanity saga, he could be following in Gilbert Areana's footsteps, as a 2nd round pick, breaking the possibility of making more many than a 1st round pick, and all in a shorter amount of time. That 3rd year, makes his trade value a lot lower, if he does not lead to W's or/and does not put up major stats. Not many players would be making more money than him in 2015 that are not legit "all stars"
Have to think about it from a business point of view, that one year is going to cost 45m or so, just for Lin, not including any salary we would be adding, 2 years of possible min MLE, a resigned JR Smith, and our next year 1st round pick. Even if Dolan has a lot of $, that contract hurts his trade value, because NOT MANY owners are willing to pay much tax.

Without receiving the contract offer from Houston, Morey continues to play mental games with us. Some reporters say we actually paid 3m for the Camby trade.

So we give up 3m, Jorts, Jordan, TD, and 2 2nd round picks. Which he cuts Jordan/Jort's but demands for both of them to be in it, with our 3m, 2 2nd picks, just so we can have no flexibility to make more moves.
Considering Camby was going to leave for NOTHING, he got a lot out of the trade, and we payed an extreme high price, the 3m cash limits another year for us to not being able to purchase picks, and have less flexibility moving forward. What a PRICK.....

You talking about Dolan being a prick?

There are more important things than stressing over one year of a contract. If Dolan didn't want this to happen, he would have made Lin an offer.

Slighty off topic , via twitter Marc Berman ‏@NYPost_Berman
Colangelo said he called Grunwald this morning to see if they are matching Fields offer sheet and got no return call.

LOL So basically Colangelo called Grunwald hoping and praying he would match Landry Fields so they wouldnt have to sign him to that ridiculous contract and by not calling him back Grunwald pretty much said go F yourself you're stuck with Landry thanks for trying to sabotage us in our pursuit of Nash .

I really don't think we would have got Nash, with Lakers package anyway.
And Nash chose Lakers just as much as Suns wanted their deal more.
So it doesn't really matter, we just lose Fields as a rotation player, and/or as a possibly trading asset.
Probably the trading asset part hurts us much more cuz he could land us a possible decent SG from the league, which is one of our needs.
Well, we played our hand poorly vs the Camby trade as well.

Oh. Well if fans of the team you're trading with are pissed at you, it probably means you did something right. It's worse when all the other teams (Suns, Nuggets, Rockets) love your team's owner.

Nash was never coming to the Knicks but at the time NY thought they had a chance and Toronto was scared so they signed Landry to that horrible contract and overpaid for him to prevent a sign and trade to Phoenix, but the joke was on both teams, at least Knicks didn't lose Shump and now Toronto can watch Landry stink up the joint

Yup

Not necessarily with the luxury tax. Because the Knicks have to essentially pay 2 for 1 salary over the tax, the financial committment might preclude them from going over the cap to sign a player with the MLE, for instance. It also makes Lin a bit more difficult to trade with the salary matching.

The worst thing for me is not being able to receive players in sign and trades and offering less in the MLE.

This. No sign and trades suck

For everyone talking out their @ss, Bonn, you especially, about the Knicks making lin an offer, the most the Knicks could offer.was 5 mil per year for 3 years, period. That is the Max you can offer restricted free agents. The Knicks did lin a favor and said- go get a reasonable deal and we will match it.

Three years, 15 mil. Either way, both were cheaper than any under the cap team poison pill options. The Knicks did lin a favor by letting him test the market.

Look, if lin were not Asian and bring a new marketing dimension with him, he'd be not as highly wanted. And Houston was the only team to go after him... not saying he does not have potential,
but 25 games is a small sample size and he has huge flaws.

according to rumors Lin signed the offer sheet already but New York has yet to receive it yet, that is what they are saying on NBA TV, so don't know if Morey is playing continuing playing games or what...

The story seems to be getting more ridiculous by the second. One side says Grunwald is avoiding Houston's messenger while the other side says Houston is waiting on Dwight Howard"s decision (and so would continue Morey's games).

It's really a 64 game sample since his #s were pretty good his rookie season too. 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rbs, 4 steals and 2 turnovers per 36 min as a rookie.
I'm doing a google search now but I still can't find anything saying the Knicks could offer only 3 yr, 15 mil.

My understanding is that they could offer him a 4 yr, $24 mil deal.

I like Lin and will be happy when we match his offer sheet from Houston, but using per 36-minute stats when he barely played doesn't really mean much. Lots of crappy player have good per 36-minute stats when they barely play. Also, I haven't been able to find anything that says we could only offer Lin a 3-year deal either. All I can find is we could offer a contract between 2 to 4 years in length.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come
Lin signs offer sheet with Houston officially - 3yrs $25M (offer changed)
