The team is more balanced with cp3-melo-Chandler than with Amare. I don't see how AMare and Melo get enough ball on the wing where both are effective.

As I said before, the right pt guard in SSOL need not be a star.

BUt, on paper

CP3
Tyson
Melo

Can compete with Miami because we are balanced. The key is who plays the power forward. Shawn williams camped in the corner is pretty good. It takes the opponents 4 away from the basket if he doubles on Melo. Double on Melo and Shawn can pop the 3.

I don't want to lose Amare but team first.

Yeah,I'd feel bad to ditch Amare down in NOLA. Perhaps Nola can swing him to the Lakers. Amare-Pau-Kobe would be pretty intense in its own.

Et tu, Nalod? Loyalty man. Amare is in the same company as Ewing, Oakley, Starks for me.

Amare singed here as a free agent. I like the guy and he played hard for the money last year. But he came for the money and glory which is not a bad thing btw! His work ethic and hard work I can see was very "Ewing" like. No doubt he won the hearts of Knick fans.

Im not sure where you are with the MElo trade but giving up Gallo and Chandler hurt cuz they were home grown rooks who played for 3 years. Amare played here one year.

I get where your coming from and I really enjoyed his game but I prefer a balanced team over star stacking.

Knicks are not the way I'd contstruct a team but if you all in and going this route trading Amare is not inconsistant at all. Knicks suck at building player base for fans to root for. They like stars!

Camby and Nash or Chandler and Nash? Is there a difference, because the latter is a definite possibility.

8pts and 8boards does not reflect his defensive prowess... he's not an elite shot blocker but he protects the paint very well and he's very very good against the pick and roll.

we were a top 5 offense last year and near the bottom in the league in defense. every team this guy has been on has been top 10 in defensive efficiency.... chris paul would have made us one of the historically great offenses but was not going to help our defense in any meaningful way. as far as an impact on this team you could make an argument than tyson chandler would make more of an impact if it means you're trading out jeffries who's probably one of the worst players in the league.

as far as injury proneness.. chandler is probably as much of a risk as paul at this point given that they both played in a similar amount of games the last couple yrs.. chandler is older but paul relies more on his quickness...

Yeah, the difference is you have financial flexibility without Chandler's contract destroying your cap.

Anyone think we need to call Phil Jax and ask him what he thinks?

Or did we?

Predication: if Jax is in the mix any slow start by us puts MDA on the street and slaps the INTERM label on Mike Woodson to finish until the Zen Master returns.

I don't understand how Dallas would possibly let him go unless they know something about his health. They're basically choosing not to win a championship this year and possibly for the rest of Dirk's career. This would be a risky acquisition for us but as long as Chandler's healthy, it should be a great one.

I was against the trade. I still miss Bird Lite.

I see where you are coming from about Amare for CP3, but having Chandler/Stat/Melo frontline is also very balanced.

I also question why we need a PG like Paul to play with Melo. Melo really does not need a playmaking PG with Bully Ball. With Melo you really just need a PG like JJ Barrea. A sweet shooting PG that can make an entry pass.

Irony: you complain about Chandler's injury situation and the alternate center you propose is Camby? ... who has played LESS games because of injury over the last 5 years and is almost a decade older?

Doing a s&t for Chandler means we still have the mid level, so Hill will be a possbility. Not sure about the PG situation but i know we will get someone solid soon enough. In the meantime, a potential starting lineup of Chandler, Stoudemire, Anthony, Hill, and Douglas with Fields as 6th man is fine because although it doesn't consist of a natural PG, i don't think we necessarily need one. Hill will play a lot of point-foward and Melo will control the game as well. Hopefully he can develop the P&R with Stat.

right, because he's ten years older than chandler and not as effective and not as sturdy at this point. in their primes, camby is the better player, but we can't trade for 2004 camby anymore. that ship has sailed.

people (myself included) covet getting camby get as a way to undo that horrible trade - it's time to let it go.

Tyson Chandler / Amare Stoudemire / Carmelo Anthony

that's the most dynamic front court in the league.

and we still have an MLE this season and next season. what's not to like? throw in our ACC lockdown backcourt of Iman Shumpert and Toney Douglas and this team is looking REALLY GOOD.

edit: not to mention that if Tyson Chandler comes, I think Grant Hill is a done deal for the MLE.

One issue is the Knicks will probably use Tyson for far more than the 27 mpg the Mavs do. Hopefully he can handle it.

Camby is still putting up numbers despite his age. He is still a capable player in the league.

I just don't think you understand how horrible it is to give this guy such a large contract. It severely cripples our flexibility to continue improving the team moving forward.

It's a huge risk. No one right now knows whether it will work out horribly or excellently.

Childs2Dudley wrote:Alright, yeah, Tyson Chandler is God. He has no flaws, he is the man. Now that he is coming to the Knicks we should forget about the rest of his NBA career and focus on him being a role player on the Mavericks for one season and use that to define his career. Tyson Chandler is the best center of this generation and deserves $14 million a season for his career 8 points, 8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks average. Tyson Chandler is a legend in the making. I hope to retire his jersey when this is all over.

People like you, chase STATS, he is exactly what we need! The 2nd best defender and legit center in the league that we can obtain. Steals, rebounds, and block shots aren't necessarily defense. And Defense aren't exactly those stats, Just cause you get those stat's doesn't make u a good defender is what I am saying.

Camby doesn't have the size and can't put his body on bigger centers. Even in his prime, he was no match vs Duncan, not to mention now. Chandler is a legit 7foot 1 guy with great wingspan. He DOESN'T have to jump to deflect and alter a shot, one of the rare players in the league that can do this. You seriously want Jared Jeffries to be out center huh?
This makes us legit contenders for Finals run. We can not attract any players and can not afford to waste Melo/Amare's years here.

Im crossing my fingers on this one, within time, you will see his value. I think many of the people here that don't like Chandler, don't really watch him play and judge him on his stats. We still have our exceptions to use, MLE, Bi annuel, veteran's minimum. We can attract players if we acquire him because we would be Title Contenders.
We can offer more than 1 year deals and get talent, we also have the ability to keep Fields I believe if we go this route. He is a FA after this season, if we are under the cap
we would not be able to keep him because we would probably use the cap to sign other players and can't go over to cap to resign Fields.

This is a no brainer, this is MUST DO if we can, Cp3 is not. It gives us a presence we have been missing for a decade and allows us to target free agents. Its a multiple affect.
This would bring the defense we have been screaming for and lacking since our Ewing/Oakley days. It's a realistic chance to attract a player like KG as he loves to play defense and teamed up with Chandler, Shumpert, TD, and another good wing could give us the players needed to play defense. It doesn't matter who our coach is if we don't have to players to defend. We have a guard to be a lock down defender in Shumpert, to guard Rose, Wade, Wall, and Westbrook. Now how much better would our defense be to have a legit defender like Chandler to guard our paint. Our next steps are to fill out our bench and have the players to give Lebron/Durant a hard time scoring. We should still get another PF/C like Sean Williams for the cheap to be a PF/C. MLE, Bi Annual, veteran's exception can now attract talented role players.

thing about this move - there HAS to be some component they are thinking of that can get CP3 here. HAS TO.

somehow it's an all-in move for CP3.

i wonder if that means dangling Amar'e for CP3. which would be crazy. but there has to be something.

Actually, in my opinion, it says NY has thrown in the towel on CP3 and have entered Win Now mode.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

that may well be true. i'm too excited thinking about the frontline we now have.

i honestly think this move makes the knicks more of a contender than if they just got chris paul with no center.
