This is us not being able to overcome our main deficiencies roster-wise and not being able to adapt the so-called system to use the pieces we have in order to win. This is us hitting a wall and not being able to move any further. You'd think even a broken clock is right twice a day, but so far this team can't get a single win even by accident. I have a hard time thinking this team won't win again but not for their play, but because nothing in life is so consistent, especially on basketball. The Cavs won again, right?
Things are horrible when your team is probably making the playoffs and there is no ounce of you excited about it.
Baby steps. At least tonight I saw a bit more of a confidence on offense. They were passing the ball and moving. Still not great, but it was better. The defense was mostly bad, but they had some good moments which allowed them to get back in the game. They just have to stop getting behind in games early so that they don't have to overcome such huge leads just to be in the game.
Baby steps my glass! Any system that is so hard for a veteran team to learn simply isn't worth it, especially one that has always been suspect on defense. You think we just played bad on defense? You may not see it as your love for the coach won't allow it, but our defense has always been bad, no matter who we have on the team. You think D'Antoni will stress defense as the responsible for this loss? No, we simply didn't make our shots. We were outrebounded again on both ends, we were bullied by terrible big men and we couldn't get stops when we had to.
Still, we don't need any help at center. We are fine starting a spent Amar'e at center (that move was genius by D'Antoni, wasn't it?). Yeah, we have no better option, right? Why the heck you sign Jeffries and keep Sheldon? But no, we don't need anybody over 7'0" that while nothing great is still better than everything we have at center and could make Amar'e be more effective at PF. But no, we don't need that.
This team shouldn't be as lost as they are. No other coach would have them this lost and if you disagree you are just biased. Why? Because when a champion like Billups, who had been playing solid this season before getting there, has said he is still lost. A veteran like that is lost, you wonder why the rest is lost? They shouldn't be, not at this point of the season, trade or not. There should've been a tweak in the system to make the players have the best chance at getting wins right now. We did that the first few games after the trade. Since, the system has been spoon-fed to the players and they don't get it.
You say there is an improvement? Give me a break, this script has been repeated over and over for the last month. We come out of the gates without energy, lose focus many times and allow big runs, have to use lots of energy to make a comeback, can't get any stop and trade baskets and then finally lose the game. You get more offensive flow in a game but no defense. Next game you get a little more defense and the offense sucks. Next game, pattern repeats. Improvement? Hardly enough to be excited about.
This is a lowly team. It shouldn't be. It shouldn't be.
