i'm glad it's over....

looking at the deal it's a slight win for us... it solidifies us as a 6th seed but i'm not sure if we're much more than that next year without serious frontcourt help or the addition of chris paul or deron williams....

i never liked anthony carter... and i don't think he fits well here other than spot minutes here or there.

shelden williams is a nice get for us and he should provide major minutes. he'll be better than mozgov right away.

did we keep randolph?

The scary thought is that I'm not even sure if we're a better team after this trade.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Felton and Billups is a wash, so essentially we traded Gallo, Chandler and Mozgov for Melo and to be frank, if the playing feild were opened up and allowed all NBA teams to bid for Melo's services, our offer would have been trumped easily.

You say absolutely nothing of the value of those picks or the $3 mill. That's what 4 draft picks? Another Fields or Ariza in there maybe? Or maybe a decent young 7 footer for cheap. I mean there are plenty out there for the taking right? Got anything else to trade?

It's all worth it to see Renaldo Balkman back in the orange and blue.

I'm sure Isiah is thrilled.

I don't get the anger from everyone. What was the alternate?
What did you expect the knicks to do?
Wait for 2012?

Yeah, basically.

I think we might look back on this as our Kevin Garnet trade.

Celtics gave up Al Jefferson, Gomes, Telfair, multiple draft picks etc and Celts fans were actually upset at the price and thought they didn't have any depth left. Think they like the KG trade now?

This trade makes us CONTENDERS for 4-5 years. CONTENDERS.

for the second round?

depends on the matchups and depends how they fine-tune the roster.

also, before this trade we were not getting out of the first round.

how else do you propose getting past miami/boston/orlando?

stars wins in this league.

we have two legit top ten players now.

i'd say that makes us perennial contenders.

Miami has 2 legit superstars who play defense and offense and another high level all-star. NY has 2 elite scorers.

Chicago has a MVP-type PG and defense and depth.

OKC has 2 elite scorers and depth, picks, and cap space.

LAL has depth, defense, MVP guy.

Amare & Melo are Superstars that might lax on Offense sometimes but are Supreme Competitors..Type of Competitors that will raise their defensive efforts in the playoffs.

Ultimately we need to see how close Carmelo was to going somewhere else. If we were bidding against ourselves it wasn't a great trade no matter how it turns out (bc no matter how good it ends up being- it always could've been better).

This was a hell of a lot to trade, but I prob would've done it before the year. We didn't even have Mozgov at that point.

I don't believe Chandler or Gallo will be as good as Melo. Melo really is a great player and a clutch player. He can also win some one on ones on the perimeter which we didn't have before. I don't think we'll have any games where we have issues scoring as long as we have a true facilitator. Thats why I didn't want to give up Felton- but Chancey has to make this happen or we need Paul or Deron for next year.

We also still need a rebounding big man- I don't know how we're gonna be able to manage to do that.

Yeah, they need defense inside. But Melo and Amar'e are actually both underrated defenders - at least to my eyes. I've seen both come up big in big moments. Amar'e is what third in the league in blocks right now? I've seen him save at least three games this season with blocks.

Knicks are NOT barren outside of Melo and Amare - Billups is a high level player. Fields is a high level player. Turiaf/Toney/Walker/Shawne are a solid bench - better than Miami's bench.

I agree it would have been better to wait until the summer - and I am trying not to think about the Isiah/Dolan implications and I will want to puke if Walsh leaves...

nonsense. If I'm an elite PG, where would I like to sign in UFA? A team with two of the best offensive forwards in the league? Or the current team, with a bunch of role players? Or just stay where you are?

The team is a .500 team. Chauncey Billups isn't as good as Felton now, but he can hit a deep shot. Melo and Amar'e give a shot at a first round upset. Would you want to play the Knicks?

I am happy

If I'm an opposing team, I'm looking at our frontcourt and drooling. Then I'm looking at Amar'e and thinking "Wow, he gets into foul woes easily anyway, now it's going to be easier. We are going to get demolished defensively.

How is this different than it before the All Star break? Our front court was soft and is soft. We can improve that moving forward. e got significantly better in other areas.

How can we possibily improve it now? At least we could hope AR and Mozgov would develop. Now we don't have that, and both and very large upsides.... which we traded AR for NOTHING! NOTHING!!

Who said now? How were we going to improve it this season before? Donnie has said form the get go his plan wasn't the 2010 plan... it was the 2012 on plan. Like V said, this isn't even the way it used to be... where you needed an MJ and a Pippen. Now you need Rondo, KG, Allen, and Pierce. We now have two top 10 players in the game and kept the Knicks best young player. This is good news.

It's not Donnie's plan anymore - pretty sure Isiah has taken credit for it.

Makes sense:

A league source said Jim Dolan has been hellbent on getting Anthony to keep him from Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov, whom has become a definite rival.

So can we confirm and Curry/AR are still here? If so we do have some ap space to trade with or an expiring - however you look at it.

Yeah, that part just doesn't make sense. How could we be sending those two for nothing? We have to be getting something of value back.

Gallo and Mozgov, I bet, are PISSED!
