After what transpired this summer, with LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer and Amare Stoudemire changing addresses, it looks like Carmelo Anthony wants to get in on the fun. As ESPN's Ric Bucher reported on Monday, Anthony is ready to split with the Denver Nuggets, whether by trade or free agency. And if he doesn't sign an extension in the meantime, Melo will be the star of the 2011 free agent class.

Where will he end up? We posed that question to our 93 NBA experts.

Here are the results:

New York (60 votes)

You know how desperate Knicks fans are for Carmelo Anthony after LeBron spurned them? Remember Melo's sucker-punch-and-run on Mardy Collins at the Garden during the 2006-07 season? Knicks fans don't.

Such is life after another losing season; after LeBron rejected them for the rival Heat; after Amare Stoudemire name-dropped Melo's name when he agreed to come to New York; and after Chris Paul's speech at Melo's wedding reportedly reinforced the idea that a Knicks "big three" was more than just a rumor.

Well, here's more good news for the hungriest fan base in the NBA: A whopping 64.5 percent of our panelists think Melo will be wearing orange and blue next season (and this survey was taken before Monday's news that he plans to part ways with the Nuggets). What's more, 26 members of our panel think CP3 will be his point guard. Sure, New York will have to do some roster maneuvering to make all of this happen. But as we saw with the Heat this summer, anything is possible if the players want it to happen.

CP3 aside, a Melo-Knicks union makes sense on many levels. He and his wife are both natives of New York. (Carmelo moved to Baltimore when he was 8.) He played college ball at Syracuse and loves MSG. And, from a purely basketball standpoint, can you imagine a scoring machine like Melo in Mike D'Antoni's high-powered offense? He would become the Knicks' most dynamic wing player since Bernard King, to whom Anthony is often compared, and the Knicks could instantly become contenders.

One fly in the ointment: Will the Knicks have to trade for Anthony, or can they wait until he hits free agency? The answer to that question says a lot about the makeup of the supporting cast and the team's ability to obtain a player of Paul's stature.

In any case, so far this is only a forecast, not fact. The summer of 2011 is a long way away, and things can change faster than Melo backpedaling down the court.

I raise you yesterday's stale bread crusts, the eggs shells from this morning's breakfast, and my EuroRail pass from 1997. Come on bro. These things are not going to make or break a deal for Carmelo.

I know that. Denver supposedly wants young talent so the added 2nd rounders is just a sweetener and maybe makes it more palatable for Denver to do the trade. More quantity. Look how high we are on our 2nd round picks or players picked in 2nd round or end of 1st round.....Walker; Fields; Douglas.

But my main point is that Donnie has made a low but somewhat reasonable offer with including Gallo. Everything else that I suggested we add is 2nd level.

Denver is going to want AR Gallo Chandler Fields picks . Just sit down and think about it---this fantasy that Carmelo could possibly sign somewhere else is the same fantasy about LBJ. We got Amare Stoudemire because NO one was willing to give him 100mm not even his own team.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He took the most money!!! So did Joe Johnson. Just on basis if you were Denver--you are not going to be held up a year from FA--think about it. Its the fantasy that fans concoct that says every player needs to come to NY and no where else and its a fantasy. Does anyone here want to give up that package??????????????? Carmelo never got the the WCF with the likes of Billups Nene Martin etc.. each year they were stacked. So we rip apart the team--give up salary cap space all of our young bigs and were stuck with ray Felton Amare and Carmelo and a load of crap?

The way Melo is refuting all of these so called trade offers and other articles is making me believe that he will just sign as a free agent next summer.

Anthony Randolph is not going to average 16 ppg next season. And this is not Fantasy Basketball. You NEED Stars to win. Combining two average players doesn't equal one Star!!

Let's hope for that. Not really down with trading anyone for a guy who's going to be a FA anyway. It's not like we're on the brink of a championship with the window closing fast and getting Melo NOWNOWNOW is the only option

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

The rumors of a Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry package that includes draft picks in 2014 from New York is of zero interest to the Nuggets, according to sources… “Not even close to interested” was the text message response to the published report…Carmelo wants to go to a winner or a major market – preferably both. People in his life have made that clear, and at the end of the day the Nuggets may have no choice but to trade him or risk losing him for nothing in return.

However, when and if that happens, it’s going to be on Denver’s terms, not Carmelo’s.

While Carmelo’s friends may want him in New York so they can enjoy Carmelo’s career with him, Denver will be calling the shots and that likely means Carmelo is going where Denver can profit from it the most, and those elite teams that keep popping up on “lists” are not ready to rip up their rosters to get Carmelo, it’s going to be a team that still a superstar player away and most of those teams will take the risk.

denver must know something we don't know, cause they really dont have much of a choice

Thomas is going to take credit for any other big free agent signing Walsh okays. Thomas calls them, tells them things that everybody else has already said and I'm sure already know. Then if they decide to sign he will try to steal the credit from Walsh. Its not enough that Walsh has been spending his time cleaning up Isiah's mess, he now wants to the steal the credit (and his job) for that as well. Scumbag.

We win if we wait...and if Carmelo signs with us as a FA next year, he gets to play with a team that has had a year of experience together, and, with the addition of Melo, enough size, versatility, and depth to compete against anyone in the NBA.

The scenario for next year- Gallo and Randolph will be starting their 4th year. Mosguv will have a year's seasoning in the NBA, and Fields, and even Rautins, will be better players. We will still have Turiaf and his reasonable expiring, and Felton will have a year in MDA's system. Don't know how Walsh will deal with Chandler and Azubuike, but Anthony will be coming to a much better team- one ready to take the next step- if he comes to the Knicks as a FA rather than a trade.

Denver can always do a sign and trade next summer which really does not return much.

ANd thats what they are going to get if they trade him now.

Keep him he will nurse his health and fans will get ugly at him or the team.

The only think Melo can do is refuse to sign where he gets traded to which lowers his value. His risk is a lock out and lower than current max deal.

If Knicks use too many assets they become not so good anymore.

League owners hate this crap with another player calling the shots.

Melo holds the cards unless he folds.

The Denver Post's Mark Kiszla nails it:

There is no way Denver can afford to lose the face of its franchise for nothing as a free agent.

The Nuggets are now considering a strategy to part ways with their 26-year-old star forward, according to a league source.

After quietly gauging trade interest in Anthony for weeks, the team's consternation has only risen as he has made no move to accept a $65 million offer for a three-year contract extension that was formally presented more than a month ago.

The Nuggets don't want to get LeBron'd.

LeBron James(notes) toyed with anxious minds in Cleveland before ripping out the hearts of Cavaliers fans by announcing a departure from his home state on live television. As was first reported by The Denver Post in June, the Nuggets are prepared to trade Anthony rather than watch him opt out of his contract next summer.

I think some should take a peak at Denver's financial situation. They have almost 25 million in expiring contract to play with. Denver makes a deal to bring Carmelo some help and he is happy again.

So one of the blogs says that Denver isn't interested in Curry and Gallo. I'm not sure of the source, but again that's one of my fears. The Knicks don't have the horses to land Melo in a trade. They can sign him outright and pay as much as anyone next summer, but right they're shopping one of their best "assets" as being an out of shape (physically and mentally) piece of cap relief and someone with the supposed potential to be Dirk. One is useless and the other is a big maybe for a top 10 player. As a Knick fan I'd love for them to want Curry and filler, but I totally understand why they wouldn't be interested in ANY Knick package.

And now Houston a possible suitor/destination? That doesn't help NY at all.
