I think it would have been much better to just re-sign Earl Barron or sign a cheap veteran like Steven Hunter or Tony Battie. For $3M, this Timofey Mozgov better be a rotation player. I also find it hard to believe Mike D'Antoni will even play him when he never played Darko Milicic or Chris Wilcox. Seems like a waste of money to me. : /

Spending $3M on a athletic 7 footer is how you go from good to great if you get lucky with that player. Russian's buyout was $2.4M so that's why the high figure.

Wilcox and Darko kinda sucky for MDA examples. Wilcox just played the same minutes on Detroit and they want to cut him after his first year or a 2 year deal. Darko? Has he done anything in this league?

Darko was a good role player before he came to the Knicks and after he left. He wasn't given a chance to play in NY. That might be on him but last year the coach chose to play an undersized line up and also didn't play Hill. The shot blocking and rebounding that Darko provided in Minny was badly needed. The Knicks only one 29 games last year also. The T-wolves were bad but the Knicks were hardly world beaters.

Darko also wanted the offense to run through him. That was the sealer for me.

why do people assume MDA wont play a defensive center? Steven Hunter was NEVER as good as he was under MDA. He was so good he got a bigger contract elsewhere, flopped and is out of the league(?) I think.

This notion that you have to shoot 3s is getting old.

Hey playa... if Damphony wants docile guys that always get along with him why did Amare come here?

What fishmike said

I never witnessed a more defiant act during pre game than what Darko arrogantly exhibited

Good Riddance

From Newsday: "The contract includes the buyout amount Mozgov has agreed to pay Khimki for his release. With the Knicks cautious about locking into any long-term deals, the second and third years of the contract are not guaranteed."

Done and done.

Timofey Mosgov is a bold move that bolsters the Knicks frontcourt whose starting center was 6'9 David Lee

I like bold moves that not one of the so-called experts, pundits, beat writers or posters saw coming

This is an OK pick up since his 2nd and 3rd year isn't guaranteed.

Ok, this is plain awesome. I'm very happy to hear that.

Cosmic, with this new information, do you feel differently now?

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

D'antoni played Dario at first and found out he was a ***** that didn't wanna work or play his role. He wanted to play his way and have special plays set for him...sorry darko have a seat.

Earl Barron started right away. If you can play you will play.

Really? How did Kurt Rambis find a way to get Darko productive?

Sure, Darko might be a difficult personality. But if you're a good coach, you find a way to get guys to be productive.

Franco - who cares about Darko?

In decades of watching basketball I have never seen a player refuse to interact with his teamates on the court EVER. Darko was a team cancer in an advanced stage of development

he had to go

Rasho Nesterovich? WTF?

Thats about as intelligent as saying we wasted money on Amare when we should have just signed Reggie Evans. After all, they are both black and American so they are pretty much the same player.

Idiotic

Knicks are stockpiling right now. We are a playoff team with moveable parts.

haha, I had same reaction.

One can't move but had a decent outside shot. The other is athletic and nearly put a hole in the backboard from 15' out cause he shot was so off.

I know there isnt a lot to read on this guy but the videos clearly show a guy who is big and explosive. He's an above the rim athlete. We gave him $3mm and if he's solid can keep him longer for cheap.

We MUST keep Amare's minutes managable. His first year back MDA played him a very reasonable 33 minutes. He put up 20/10 and shot 57%. The following year he played Amare 34 minutes and Stoudemire had his best season yet w/ 25ppg 9rebs and shot 59%. In his 8 years w/ the Lakers Shaq next shot 59%.

Anyway the point is we need bigs to keep Amare at PF more and limit his minutes and wear and tear. Same thing with Randolph who missed 5 games with a sprained ankle and had to wear a boot for 2 months last year.

Jerome Jordan is a shot in the dark.

MDA has helped more players get bigger contracts than they deserve than any coach I can think of. Guys play for him inflate their production and look good, then get signed to nice contracts. Posters want to point to the few guys that didn't workout but ignore the many who flourished under MDA!!!

People seem to forget he coached Shaq. Depending upon who you believe he may have asked for him. At the least he's on record for being supportive of the move. Darko acted like a baby and showed no effort to do what MDA wanted. Good riddance!
