nah man...why should an employer be responsible for an employee's actions? if the contract is void, they should be able to drop it off the books. if they are penalized if a player is hurt for the duration of it, then they should get a reprieve in a situation like this.

yeah but even players who get injured in the offseason don't get their contracts voided, i don't see the difference, no?

"David Stern just put 3 suspensions around Gil's locker and made him pick one."

arenas had to have folks in his ear tellin him to shut it. wonder how valid this is:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/06/AR2010010605167.html
the other dude may have had a loaded weapon. still early, however if valid, this may also be why both guys are gone for a long time. if javaris reacted poorly, arenas coulda been smoked, all for a joke.

Thanks sidsanders.... Seems like Gilbert has some true issues outside of this. Man we thought Nate was freaking immature. This guy seems to ne Mount Everest compared to Nate when it comes to maturity. Pretty sad.

Walking into the locker room two days after the dispute on the team plane, according to two witnesses, Arenas laid out the guns in Crittenton's locker. Two other teammates eventually sauntered in and, while Arenas was writing the note in front of Crittenton's cubicle, in walked Crittenton, according to their account.

Asking Arenas what he was doing, Arenas replied, "If you want to shoot me, I'd just thought I'd make it easy for you." As other teammates laughed, Crittenton crumpled up the paper, tossed one of Arenas's guns across the room, where it bounced in front of a team trainer, and said he didn't need any of Arenas's firearms because he had his own, according to the witness accounts.

Crittenton then drew his weapon, loaded it and chambered a round, the witnesses said.

Neither witness said the gun was ever pointed at Arenas, but both said Crittenton began singing as he held the gun.

Arenas began laughing, the witnesses said, telling Crittenton, "Look at that little shiny gun," as two other players slowly retreated to the training room.

Arenas eventually followed. By the time the players came back out, Crittenton was gone.

Sucks to be Crittenton. Reportedly they never found his gun and the article mentions if will hard to bring him up on charges with no weapon found.

GIl has a blantent disrespect and finally it got bigger than him. Its one thing to be agent zero and be MR. Funny Man but its another to break the law, and then break common sense. His actions with his hands is funny as hell but he is publically telling the league and the D.C. Law enforcement community to shove it up their ass and neither will have it.

Personally it did not bother me but lets pretend you are having a losing season and the team is in competition for entertainment dollars and a big segment of the people who buy tickets are corporations, government workers, law enforcement employees, teachers, Parents, children, and you sell add space to create an image and now you have a moron who has put his own agenda in front of everyones and even arguing publically with Al Sharpton who is only trying to prevent violence and save lives! Gilbert now is beginning to understand that he is an Employee with a contract and his job is not just to score points. He works for the fans that go to the arena, the corporate sponsers, the union, the league and his team.

Stern did not suspend him until defied all common sense and told the establisment to shove it. Thats fine but the establishment is what gave him that big contract, and did it on faith when he was injured and down and out.

I was only in favor of spree's contract being voided unless there was a crime which there was none, and it was not done in a public place. If Arenas is convicted of a felony and is unable to fulfil his contract because of jail time then his deal should be voided. If its a misdomeaner then no.

I am not sure who owns the Verizon center but if it was built with public money or subsidized with tax payer money which I am sure is, then its not just an NBA matter or a team matter.

Im sure there was no real danger involved and the players are really cool with it, and nobody is saying they should not have the right to arm themselves, but laws are laws no matter how much money you make, or how funny you are. Jayson Williams never intended to shoot the driver, it was all done in good fun. Jayson sense of entitlement and sense of humor has ruined his life for now and he still might do some time.

Arenas, a notorious practical joker, often crossed the line of acceptable decorum. The example often cited was how Arenas once defecated in teammate Andray Blatche's shoe during Blatche's rookie season. His behavior often went unchecked and unpunished, said a former team employee on condition of anonymity.

This is an article from November 2006 on Gilbert Arenas that is labled "A pseudo-psychotherapeutic assessment that attempts to shed light on the eclectic nature and unique brain chemistry of the NBA's most unheralded superstar."

Its good and mentions some surprising things.

Honestly, I thought it was hilarious, but Arenas should have been smart enough to know that the powers that be would not like it. Right from the start he should have been apologetic and did everything possible to stay out of the spotlight. He will know get at least a 1 year suspension, and that is only if he is not convicted of a crime.

The pic had my dying. But that's to us, the fans, who have no stake in whatever the heck he does. For him, it was just about the stupidest thing he could have done outside of maybe bringing a gun to the arena again. Just really bad judgment.

Arenas was stupid for doing this. He was stupid for bringing the guns to DC. So his crime is that he's stupid. I'm sure a lot of NBA players do stupid things. Arenas is paying for his idiocy in the amount of $150k per game while suspended. That's more than ample punishment for what he did. If he hurt someone, or disrespected an official, or did something egregious, then I could see a huge punishment. But this was just a stupid joke based on s stupid argument about cards.

Should we expect NBA players to act like adults? Hard to say. It's a novel idea. Probably not too realistic.

However, we SHOULD expect that their agents EARN their 10% by helping to educate the players they sign how to not lose a lot of their money and endorsements. Arenas probably wouldn't listen, but his agent ought to have flown to VA and had a sit down with Gilbert the SECOND this story broke. Clearly, he didn't earn his fee. I would fire him yesterday.

I hear what you're saying about the agent, and in most cases i would agree. But would Arenas listen to anybody? Would Ron Artest? There are some players in this league that will do whatever they want, no matter what their agent says. Nate can't even agree with his agent. Marbury didn't even have an agent. Some men you just can't reach.

I agree about the agents... but panisment is not about Arenas.
Panisment is to try stop others to play with guns. Even unloaded gun can sometimes kill. You do not want to wait for the loss of live to start doing something.
