Hey you know Hill isn't just an avg size PF, The guy is pretty athletic. In fact unless you're talking about the freak of nature #1 PIck Blake Griffin, Hill was one of the more impressive talents in the draft.
"Hill was up and down at the combine. On one hand, his standing reach (9’0”), body fat (6%), and maximum height (11’11”) were impressive. His 3.3 sprint was actually faster than several wing players as well. On the other, he recorded the worst agility score at the combine and only repped 11 on the bench. With the way the game has evolved, most NBA PFs are stronger and more agile than Hill, so he has some work to do physically." From this we know his footwork needs to improve and he has to get stronger. Other than that he's got many top tier attributes. I also think that MDA and Walsh have it right trying to develop him for the C spot. He's not like Gallo, who can handle the rock and move to wherever he wants to go with the ball. I also don't think Hill will feel as comfortable on the perimeter like Gallo. I found this tidbit on Derozan to be interesting: Demar Derozan is an elite jumper, not an elite athlete. His max vertical of 38.5” was good for 3rd best at the combine, but his bench press (5 reps), agility (11.88 – terrible for a wing), and sprint (3.31) left much to be desired. I can understand HIll not being the most agile guy out there, but what's Derozan's excuse? I noticed that Hill is actually just as fast as Derozan!!! Hill 3.30 Sprint Derozan 3.31. Hill also was top ten in No Step Vert 31". HIll was also 2nd in No Step Vert Reach 11'7" both of which can explain why he grabs boards even tho his technique is poor. Just imagine once he learns how to do things the right way. In a crowd Hill is gonna be able to go get a lot of boards that others won't. Oh and guess what... Hill can actually shoot. I can't remember the last time we had a PF that could hit a turnaround Jumper and also step out and pop the 18' jumper. |

This size argument is just annoying. How did Detroit win a championship with a 6'8", totally unathletic center?
The two best players on New Orleans are undersized and look at their offseason additions this year. Every player they added is undersized for their position: Darren Collison, Ike Diogu, Emeka Okafor, Bobby Brown, and Songalia. Both trades they made traded away players oversized at their positions (Tyson Chandler, Antonio Daniels) for players that are undersized. San Antonio's two draft picks: DeJuan Blair, a 6'7" power forward and Jack McClinton, a 6'1" shooting guard. Matt Bonner, who is 6'10", started 66 games at center for them last year. Denver's front line is Carmelo (average), Kenyon (below average), and Nene (below average). And who did they trade for on draft night? Ty Lawson, the shortest player in the draft. And on and on. By the way, how did Orlando become one of your talking points? Jameer Nelson is 6' if he's lucky and Dwight Howard is less than 7'. They let their 6'10" SF go and replaced him with someone who's 6'6". Their SG and SF are both 6'6". Rashard Lewis can't play defense against any above average PF. And their big free agent signing was Brandon Bass, a severely undersized PF. |

Donnies not done dealing, the Knicks havent even started playing yet and the media will still put blogs, rumors etc out there because thats what they do and have done from the IT era. Donnies dont show his hand in the media and I respect him for that and hope others on this board respect him also because you want a personal hotline to him to know whats hes doing. AINT HAPPENING!! Like I said before sit down, strap on your seat belt ,kick back and enjoy the ride!! |

Posted by 30andOverClub: What is the counter argument here? Did anyone watch the finals? The commentary the ENTIRE series was about the size of the Lakers and the Magic. Yes the Magic let Turkoglu go... you know what? They are going to pay for that. San Antonio won with what? They won with Robert Horry and Bruce Bowen winning matchups. They won before that with Duncan and the Admiral. Detroit had matchup advantages at the PG, SG, and SF positions. Did you forget about the Birdman in Denver? Come on now folks. Remember when all we could talk about on this board was our cadre of shrimpy Power Forwards? What is it that you're all saying? Gallo is great? And you're all cool with a Knicks squad that's not even competing this year? That's fine. I respect anyone who will post an opinion and back it up with something solid. Martin wants to post junk and call me names, then hey, whatever gets you off man. Alan Hahn:
Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

JW, I understand where you're getting at that you want to win this year. However, I think you're jumping to a lot of conclusions when it's way too early to do that...
1) I agree with you on a couple of things like we could have gone after Anthony Randolph and maybe Hill has too many question marks. However, I think they saw the upside in Gallo as just as high as Randolphs, which I can side with them for that. What's not realize? Also, you don't even know how he can defend because you haven't seen him when he's healthy. He was gimping up and down the court the entire time he played because of his back injury. Lets judge him when he's healthy. However, for the short time that I've seen him, I saw a guy that can probably score in any way, who seems to know where to be on the defensive end (Unlike David Lee), showed hustle, but also showed no rebounding skills. He has a lot to work on. 2) I think you're looking at this team like it's the finished product, when in fact it's not even close. Of course Dwight Howard is going to destroy us. He'll probably destroy us this year too. We're a rebuilding team and that's what happens to teams that are rebuilding. You can't put a finished problem like that on the court in a matter of a year or too. Look at it like this. We've still are trying to figure out if we have drafted well the past couple of seasons. Nobody knows the answer to that. Not you, me or anyone. It's extremely hard to trade in this day and age when people want to just dump salary and aren't willing to give up their young players. And to top it off, our trade assets aren't exactly great. Yet, Walsh managed to get rid of Crawford and Randolph and got a player who's even better than Crawford, in Al Harrington, in return who expires soon too. Could Walsh have done better than Randolph, maybe, maybe not, but we should be greatful he's gone regardless. And we also never had capspace so we couldn't go after free agents. It was impossible for us to put a product of any kind on the floor with the position Isiah put us in. 4) You're asking for stats to back up your arguement, but I've said time and time again that most bball stats are overrated as hell. Dude, make yourself a bowl of ice cream and stop being so angry. It's way too early to judge Walsh at this point. Lets see how they can do this season with the new guys first. Lets see if we can pull off a trade of Curry for an expiring and lets see how Hill and Darko do (If they get playing time). We just don't know. Heck, that's why I've hardly made any basketball posts the past couple of months, because there's hardly anything to know or talk about at this point. “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think ‘Would an idiot do that?’ and if they would, I do NOT do that thing.”- Dwight Schrute

This is the gist of the situation. Since Walsh came on board it's been about changing field position. We've been starting every year on our on goal line with no margin for error and what happens... we get sacked in the endzone! We've tried to just smash our way out. We've tried long passes out of a spread formation. Every which way except taking the punishment and starting over with the ball on the twenty. So Walsh is taking the hit and at the end of this coming season we'll get the ball on the 20 and have a much better shot of going all the way.
We just couldn't build this team without getting rid of the cap killers. Now we'll have more options and over the next 2 years more good FA's than ever to try and get. That's the big issue. 2 FA markets that will have loads of good players available. Now even if we don't get Lebron, there will still be other options in addition to trades we might make due to being under the cap for a change. If Walsh can somehow move Jared and/or Curry, that will make it even better!!! Nothing we do this year matters other than developing our youth. |
