Don't forget about Portugal, although they didn't have as stiff a competition group wise as some, but they benched some of their starters today and still beat Mexico, who are pretty decent.

Argentina-Holland is interesting thusfar, despite no goals yet.

Dunno about Argentina having the best unis. I always found their road kit to be cooler than that ugly light blue and white striped home strip. I like the Netherlands bright Oranj unis, and the one's Mexico have which look kind of like throwbacks to the 1970's/70's style. Nike at least had a few different uni styles with some variations this year where the last round were all essentially the same design.

Style 1 (bright/neon single color with or without old school soccer collar and dark block lettering/numbers and large national football insignia/badge on top-right-front): Netherlands Home, Korea Home

Style 2 (darker color or white with a racing stripe on the side or diagonal or across the front part of the jersey and a large natioanl badge/insignia on the top right front): USA Home, Mexico Road, Netherlands Road

Style 3 (Modern/ more basic, closer to last year's design, less busy, with very narrow racing stripes along the lining along the side): Brazil, Portugal, Australia (no stripes, similar to Korean kit, but not neon)

I forgot all Argentina needed to do was play for a tie. As of right now, Germany & Brasil best teams unless proven otherwise by the likes of portugal, spain, england, argentina

Brasil is going to spank Japan! They are going to get ****ed up beyong all recognition. I think Parreira will unleash the offense. I'm sick of him and his balanced attack BS. Let the players do what they do best, play the beautiful game like they play it in Brasil.

yea seriously! They have to let loose..its what makes them so special. For whatever reason the energy level has not been there. Pereira keeps telling them to pass the ball and move around because they're not focused. Pereira coached in 2002 didn't he...or was it Filipao?

Anyway, tomorrow is going to be a heck of a day...USA, then Brasil than celebrate Brasil's win in Newark via $1 miller lites and lots of Brazilian women!

dodger: you were right, Germany dominated Ecuador. Germany looks like the best team so far. England didnt look that good today but maybe it was Sweden that was really good. I doubt they will even faze Germany! Spain also looks like a good team. Hey DarkKnicks, why isnt Raul playing more minutes? Is he injured or something? It seems like the Spanish play together when Raul is on the field.

Honestly, the best answer I can give you (and I'm sure every Spanish would tell you the same) is that Raul has been playing like crap for the past 3 years. And when I say crap I mean he has been PATHETIC. He hit a goal which was very important for the team, but it does not change the fact that he is not what he used to be. He is still respected everywhere because he has been the best Spanish player for a lot of years, but here in Spain everyone knows the truth, even if a few people still expect him to play like a super star. Reyes is much better! (sorry, firefly, haha)

firefly: Can England win in the next few rounds without Owen?

Ooooh tough one. The real problem here is that Sven has screwed up to huge proportions. These are his last games with England, so he thought he would do something daring and spontaneous. So he picked Theo Walcott to go to the World Cup. Now Walcott has never played in the Premiership, never played in Europe. He was signed by Arsenal in January and never got a game since. He's meant to be this amazing wonderkid, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said it was a good idea to take him. Then I ask you, if Wenger realy thinks that Walcott can contribute, then why the hell didnt he play him himself!?!?!? Especially with the crippling injury problems Arsenal had this season!

So basically, Walcott is there as a bystander, just to enjoy the sunshine and experience a World Cup. But now, we only have three strikers. One of them, Rooney is just coming back from a broken foot. Another Michael Owen has just crocked his ACL and is out to 2007. And the other one is a complete system killer. Crouch is a good player, but when you play with someone who is 5" taller then the average defender, you find yourself playing long balls all the time. And that sucks! We wont win the world cup playing long balls to Crouch. We have two of the most talented central midfielders in the world in Lampard and especially Gerrard, and we're playing it over their heads.

So, in response to your question, can we win without Owen, it depends how we play. Crouch is ideal as the man you throw on in the last 20 minutes to get a goal. At that point long balls are perfectly acceptable. But to get the best out of our personnel, IMO we should play Hargreaves as a defensive midfielder, Lampard attacking midfield, Cole on the lesft, Becks on the right and Gerrard coming in between the midfield and Rooney. 4-5-1. This way, Gerrard is still involved in the buildup play, can roam the edge of the box for those stunning 35 yard strikes, and Rooney gets quality service from three of the best midfielders in the world. If we play like that then I think we can win.

If we play Crouch and Rooney up front, then no. I think we will be futile, boring and ultimately, we will fail.

Just my opinion. But its shared by most TV and radio analysts here.

Todays games will be the most interesting in the group phase so far. Italy Cezch will be a great matchup where both teams have a lot to lose!!!!

Sorry but I really hope Ghana gets through against the US. So at least one african team survives the first round!!!

Ugh...it's over for the US.

Donovan played terribly, Beasley showed up today and played with heart and I think Arena played a terrible game plan.

Plus we just don't have a good enough roster in a tough group..

Oh yeah and that PK was complete BS.
