You guys are ridiculous.

Starks and Oak were the ****in SOUL of that team. Patrick was the face of the franchise, yes, but he wasn't the one diving after loose balls and going balls out after a rebound.

That's what made us what we were.

Don't even pretend for a sec that you coulda just put anyone next to Pat.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

bobs obviously has the point go flying over his head like an errant Jerome James pass.

That was not the point anyone was making. The point is that we built a TEAM. We built a team that utilized Patrick, Oaks, Starks, Dereks skills and allowed them to do what they all do best so they didn't have to worry about anything else. With our current team we are asking Stephon to be a Jason Kidd/STeve Nash type which he is clearly not and then fans are getting mad at him for not being this guy. Is he a jerk for this or are we and management wrong for continually thinking and building teams like he is.

^ Management and fans are wrong for expecting something out of him that he simply can't do.

But don't think for a second Marbury's ego doesn't play a part in all this. Once upon a time, Steph could've made it clear who and what he was, but instead he chose to try to be Superman b/c that's the type of guy he is ---

Okay if you walk into the garden tomorrow and tell management that you are the greatest PG that ever lived and they handed you a 50 million dollar a year contract and ask you to lead the team to a title, who's fault is that.

I personally would think you were not only brilliant for negotiating that contract but I would also admire your confidence. I would think management were a crew of idiots though.

^ I blame Isiah for being a pretty bad GM, I blame Dolan for being a patsy, and I blame Marbury for not being the real deal.....

bobs, last time Ewing was on the court you were 15. Last time he was good you were 13. Anyway if we had Houston instead of Starks all along we probably have at least one ring. Oakley was a good role player playing next to one of the league's great centers. Yes.. we would have probably been just as good with Horace Grant, Otis Thorpe or a host of others that could fit in that role. Part of the reason we never did win a title is management was never able to find a great 2nd player. we had role players or guys that were in the tail end of their careers.

Bobs then why not also blame Craw and Curry and Trevor and Channing and David. They aren't leading us to a title either. Or is it because Marbs makes the most money and you THOUGHT THAT HE WOULD BE OUR SAVIOR.

Enough saviors for once let's build a team.

Fish: I agree. Patrick took so much blame for not winning a title yet for the majority of his career, John Starks(our beloved role player) was his number 2 guy.

^ I don't buy that.

The only reason we got to the Finals in 94 was b/c of our defense. Take out Starks and put in Houston, and we might have a more efficient outside threat, but watch what happens on the other side of the floor. Who's gonna dive for loose balls? Who's gonna guard MJ?

I can buy Horace Grant or Otis Thorpe replacing Oak b/c they were all similar players. All good rebounders, good post defenders. But Oak was better than both of them b/c of his basketball IQ. I'm taking Oak 9 times out of 10, with the last being a mistake.

Like I said, Oak and Starks were the soul of that team. Sure, maybe we didn't win a championship b/c Ewing didn't have a Robin. Maybe we didn't win b/c we didn't produce enough offense when we needed it.

But I'm sure of atleast 1 thing -- we would've never gotten to the Finals without our defense. End of story.

I don't blame those guys b/c they play hard and seem to be doing what Brown asks of them.

I blame Marbury for hurting our chemistry, and promising to be something he's not.

What does that have to do with my point? Am I a bad writer?

These guys were the heart and sole of the team because they were placed into a role where they were allowed to be the heart and sole of the team. If Starks was placed as a lead guard without Patrick and roasted in the papers and on the chat pages for not being Jason Kidd he would have been a surly malcontent that headbutts Reggie Miller for no reason. Similar to his days in Utah and Oaks days yelling at Vince Carter's mother.

^ Call it what you want.

It was what it was. They WERE the soul of the team. Don't take that for granted Burpity.

So Marbs has hurt you personally and you are now angry with him?

I remember TT saying he was going to take boxing lessons and become mean. I knew he would not be a ferocious player so when he didn't become one I was not angry. He is who he is regardless of what he says. I have a 2guard on my rec league team that tells everyone how he is going to light it up that night. Then he goes 1-10 and we win the game and then joke about how he said he was going to light it up. Who cares.

If we as an organization are more focused upon building around Marbury because he said he is a franchise player instead of finding someone who is and then putting Marbs in a suitable role. Or trading him for scraps because he did not uphold his promise and we are oh so baby sad, then we are an awful organization. Oh wait...............

Bobs if you think I am taking it for granted then you either didn't read my post or simply didn't understand it, which could be either of our faults. Either way why am I wasting my time is the question?

I'm not even sure what the arguement was about in the first place.

Call it shorterm memory.....or not caring. Either way right.

are you kidding? oak and mason also dove for loose balls, as did ward. I'm sure mason would have been put on MJ.

Isiah is the greatest GM of all time. And yes you all can quote me on that.

Why would anybody want to quote an obvious mental patient?
