Farnsworth screws the Yanks over one last time. Gave up a 2 run homer in the 8th to Tampa, who take a 4-3 lead.

Nice! What I want to see. I actually missed the game today. How did Bruney look? How was his control and velocity???

i was at the game & he looked pretty good... my seat didn't give me a viewpoint of the radar gun readings but from what i could tell his velocity was good & his location wasn't bad at all considering all the time he'd missed... he did walk a guy & gave up a hit but was able to complete the inning w/o giving up a run & closed out the game after throwing 20 pitches... his return to the bullpen will fill the hole left by Farns quite nicely... i'm glad he's been able to come back this year after his injury, i thought he was done for the season when the injury occurred... he's obviously worked hard to rehab & i think he'll be a big help for us down the stretch... he was pitching so well before the injury occurred.

what a win today... that double steal w/Damon threatening a bunt in the bottom of the 8th w/Christian & Melky on the move was a stroke of brilliance by Girardi... u draw the 3Bman in on that play & makes it tough for him to get back to cover 3rd... that was a huge play in this game... great baseball X's & O's right there by Girardi... great tough it out win by the Yanks today in what seemed to be a huge disappointing loss after Edwar gave up that gran salami to Mark T.

what a win today... that double steal w/Damon threatening a bunt in the bottom of the 8th w/Christian & Melky on the move was a stroke of brilliance by Girardi... u draw the 3Bman in on that play & makes it tough for him to get back to cover 3rd... that was a huge play in this game... great baseball X's & O's right there by Girardi... great tough it out win by the Yanks today in what seemed to be a huge disappointing loss after Edwar gave up that gran salami to Mark T.

Certainly was. Great win and a great move by Girardi esp. taking the bunt off for Melky with 2 strikes. Although I think he should've pinch ran Christian for Pudge IMMEDIATELY - not sure why he waited so long. Didn't make any sense to me at the time - it's not like he should've been worrying about losing Pudge's bat for the rest of the game - it was already the 8th inning and you're trying to tie or win that game there - that's why this kid Christian's on the roster... And earlier I would've went after Mark Tex. with Marte with the bags jammed - Edwar started to lose it (walk, hit, walk) and Marte was warm. Doesn't matter that he was something like 5-6 with a HR against Marte, who cares, Marte's our guy there now. It's why we made the trade.... Not trying to really Monday morning QB Joe, I love Girardi, but it's stuff I was saying at the time... But who cares, it all worked out and it was a great win.

Thanks for the update on Bruney TMS. I read in the paper the next day that he was hitting 95 on the Stadium gun (which appears a tick faster than the Yes TV gun readings) with most of his fastballs and cranked it up to 97 on one. Nice to see. He's got good stuff and you're right, he'll fill in for Farnsworth nicely. I'm happy for him. He was in great shape to start the season, losing all of that weight, and I'm just glad he's back. Can't wait for Mark Melancon to come up in Sept. and show what he's got.....

i'm building up some high expectations for Melancon at this point, i sure hope he doesn't disappoint... i don't expect him to be the next Joba but at least wanna see something to get excited about w/some good movement & velocity on his pitches... i'll take what Veras has been giving us this year outta him.

Bruney's velocity was higher than i expected... but since his injury was a lisfranc fracture his arm was never really effected... it was just a matter of him getting his arm strength back after the long layoff, & it seems like he's got that... when he's throwing his best he can hit triple digits too.

Damn, bad loss tonight. Marte sucked.

Hideous loss. Marte was the guy there though esp. if Mo wasn't available and it didn't look like he was. I didn't have a problem with Joe staying with him. He was struggling but he was hitting 93-95 with a good, sweeping slider - this guy was closing games for Pittsburg. I actually thought he was gonna pitch out of it.....

Girardi saying in the paper that Joba's shoulder is a "muscular" problem, might miss a start but he'd be surprised if he's gone longer than that. We're not gonna know squat until after an MRI though. Say a prayer.....

I don't like the idea of Geise making that start against the Angels. As far as earning a start, no problem, he's pitched well and I think it might be his home town so that's nice, but who's the long man now? Say Geise gets pounded (Dan Geise going more than 1 time through that order scares me) and goes 2 innings - what do we do then? Gas the pen to mop up the rest of the game? I guess Robertson is the long man now but is he prepared to throw 5-6 innings if need be? That's a lot to ask outta that kid. Geise has excelled in the long man role and I like him there. They must really not like what they see from Kennedy even though he's putting up decent enough numbers. I think he's earned a trip back to the bigs. He just beat Pawtucket in his last start I think - nothing left to prove at AAA. And he's a starter. He's our best option there right now. I wouldn't mess with Geise's role here....

Never seen him but from what I read Mark Melancon throws 93-94 with a hard curve/slider reminiscent of K-Rod's and a decent change with a great mental makeup. Can't wait to see him. We're gonna need this kid down the stretch. There's talk already that he's the future closer after Mariano packs it in.

i wanted to see kennedy on friday...he's dominating AAA already. now it's time to see if he's a big league pitcher or a AAAA pitcher...

Totally agree. I mean they drafted this kid pretty high.... Bottom line is at this point, he's pitched well enough at Scranton to earn another chance and he did pitch well at the end of last season. He's a better option than Rasner, Ponson and Dan Geise imho.

And DJ, Hughes' velocity, I'll believe it when I see it. All we heard was that the kid throws mid-90s, best pitching prospect in baseball..... I haven't seen any of it. OK, I know he's had an assortment of injuries that could have contributed to the decline in velocity. NP. I'll give him a pass if that's the case. Esp. this mysterious rib-cage fracture that he could've had for awhile, I could see how that could affect his fastball. Bottom line on Hughes for me is his fastball. That thing is pin-straight. He's got good control and a good curve (decent slider and change that he never really uses) but the key to this kid is the fastball. Not a lot of movement there - if he's at 88-90 he's hitable, 93-95 he can get away with a more, much more. It's that simple. Some pitchers, velocity doesn't mean squat like a Greg Maddux or now with Mike Mussina, but with this kid, it's everything. It's the key.
