Butler had a layup in garbage time, how is anybody eatin crow?

He is still a project, and we still don't know what he will turn out to be.

I remember talking about James Lang last season (or was it earlier this season?)...He would be nice to take a look at in Summer league.

put it this way guys...even Bruno Sundov has shown alot more talent & ability than Butler has...please calm down on this guy until you see him get some extended play in the summer leagues.

exactly. how can people be like "eat crow" or "jb will not dissapoint"?

dude is 19, didn't get drafted, did well in cba. that's ALL we know.

1 play at the end of a game don't mean ****.
1 summer camp don't mean ****.

we need to see this guy over an extended period of time. big men take longer to develop so in theory, he may not even be good until he's 25, which is 5 years away.

so look at him as a draft pick and wait and see what happens. there are ALOT more failures than good players in the draft so we'll see.

the only thing we can really get pumped about is the PHILOSOPHY of the move, not particularly the move itself.

Here is Jackies 2004 Summer League stats Along with the stats of Jermaine Jackson and Bruno Sundov seeing as they all played on the same team. They all played for the Wolves summer league team. The funny thing is this is JUST out of HighSchool and he already has better numbers then bruno. I am not even going to mention CBA. I am in no way saying he is going to be a star but saying Bruno has shown more is going to far.


Butler: 16.6MPG 4.2Reb 0.4Blk 6.6Pts
Per 48min: 12.1Reb 1.2Blk 19.1Pts

Sundov: 21.6MPG 4.2Reb 0.6Blk 6.8Pts
Per 48min: 9.3Reb 1.3Blk 15.1Pts

I have to agree that Bruno has proved already that he is a total stiff, and Butler has got much more upside then he does.

But just on a sidenote, I don't think that per 48 stast for a summer league team for guys who played under 15 minutes even there say very much, not trying to critisize anybody personally, but don't you think that those stats are totally meaningless?

why? because he's 19? he can very well turn out to be just as much of a stiff as Bruno is...all i'm saying is everyone calm down on this guy until we see him log some minutes against real competition...the same crap happens every time some young player joins this team...Mike Sweetney gets drafted & all of a sudden he's the second coming of Elton Brand for cripes sake...i guess now that we have Jackie "Hakeem" Butler we have our frontcourt set for the next 15 years...hurray. (exaggeration obviously but you get the point)

We need to do this to keep our self esteem up. "Label" a player. Reezy is the next G. HIll, Sweets is Brand, Frank Williams is Michael Ray Richardson, Craw is Microwave, Marbs is Oscar Robertson, Jackie is Moses Malone, Herb is the next Vangundy, Dolan is the next Stienbrenner, and Isiah is the next Logo!!

It gives us hope.

I have seen highlights of the game, but I didn't get to watch it....Can someone please tell me the lineup we had on the court when Butler got in the game??? He scored 6 points in 2 minutes, no rebounds nor block shots; one that is telling me that he is a scorer, and two he needs a little more playing time to showcase his game....I really believe that Isiah found us a winner in JB.....

Dido he played 2 mins in garbage time during a blowout. There arent rebound or blocks to be had in that amount of time. He was playing out there with Jermaine Jackson, Sundov, Ariza etc. against Kendrick Perkins and some scubs on Boston.

He's shown he can cut to the basket and score inside so far...

He showed good hands in catching the ball. Not very explosive. Good body control. Moves well without the ball. This is my first hand impression of Butler.

A little something for us to work with....I am pretty sure that once he feels that he belongs in this league, he will be fine....Chemistry and confidence will play a huge role with all of our players, hopefully that will happen by next season..

lol. I was thinking the same thing. we have a voracious appetite for the knicks. A uy plays 4 minutes and we get an analysis of his game. The funniest thing is I went to this thread just to find such an analysis!!

I think Jackie Butler is here to stay. We didnt see a full scrimmage of him or nothin but i can see potential. He is raw. But aguirre is gonna fix that. im not saying he's gonna be like pat or nothin but atleast better than mohammed

Maybe people's opinions of him are based partly on what they've read from writers who have watched him closely throughout his career, not just based on the 4 minutes he's played. What's wrong with that?
