I think the Knicks organization knows they screwed up. And they also wanted to do right by Obi. So they traded him to a great situation, knowing full well they were on the short end of the deal with a conference rival. They even signed his brother, which I'm viewing as a thank you to Obi, and a PR move, until Jacob proves that incorrect.

Questionable draft choice. Terrible asset management. And selling at a disadvantage.

Obi's blame includes not playing better defense, and not playing well enough to grab minutes from an All-NBA player.

Good luck to him... he provided lots of excitement the last few years.

From reading a lot of the posts the way I understand it is:

1) Obi was a terrible pick
2) Yet by getting only two seconds for him means we got fleeced
3) This creating cap space for the DiVincenzo signing isn’t worth acknowledging much less mentioning

Forget IQ would have been a good 8th pick.
Keeping Obi then letting him walk for zilch would be zilch and a dick move
Obi gets a chance to get paid.

It was Obi for two second rounders and DDV.
Remember how we got “fleeced” by the KP deal? In time it proved we did not.
The cap space added? Was Randle. WE killed it.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t.
Lets see how Roby does before we get all cute with our “Fucking knicks, I told you………..”

Obi is a nice player IMO, and was not a terrible pick. Just not the correct one. This I can overlook.

Everyone knew that the move was necessary to acquire DD. Including the Pacers. It doesn't change the fact that the Pacers got something for nothing. And that sucks.

The net result, today, of having the 8th pick three years ago? Virtually no benefit. It is now like the pick never existed at all. And that sucks.

If you can’t already tell that Obi isn’t suitable for the 3&5 positions, who should we ask about that? Cause it’s kinda obvious at this point.

Knox, Frank, and Obi should have produced at least one cornerstone players.
Instead Randle and Brunson are. RJ is on the cusp.
we learn draft position is no guarantee amd knicks are not the only team to suffer.
Obi was not awful and perhaps if Randle was not here he would be putting up numbers.
The market for him was what it was. If DDV contributes and we win 50 games y'all will be happy.

Not arguing, just looking to clarify where I am at. I think you can rue the squandering of a lottery pick(s) and then let go and see the bigger picture here and now. My opinions as opposed to observations of others':

1) Obi was another squandered lottery pick and that sucks.
2) I don't know if Obi's talent was not developed or squandered, hard to say. But perhaps he deserves some if not most of the responsibility. Regardless it wasn't happening here for him.
3) Two second rounders seems to be the going rate of return to clear cap and roster space of players on whom the jury is still out. Hard to think the FO didn't do its due diligence.
4) Although doing Obi "a solid" might be the case - there's a payoff in players' perception of the Knicks perhaps.
5) Do a quick rundown of lottery picks and you'll see the Knicks aren't the only team to blow picks. Also not the only team to make mistakes.
6) And it certainly isn't apparent to me that "everyone knows the move was necessary to acquire DD." Most complaints are along the lines of we got fleeced for two seconds. That's hardly taking in the big picture.

Again, I think you can acknowledge negatives without ignoring positives. My peeve with fans and media is in the biased, often emotional, often ignorant presentation of their opinion by leaving out details that are inconvenient to their rant. Of course I will go (more?) insane trying to stamp out those fires.

We were last in the entire league in assists per game.

That falls on Thibs for lack of creativity and offensive scheme.

Obi could have been used more effectively all season he could have played him at the 3 and the 5 to switch things up. We could have ran more pick and roles and back cuts.

6 minutes in game 4 I would have told Thibs the same thing.

Obi needs to get better at the little things, but over playing everyone into the ground and leaving starters on during blowouts is just ****ty coaching. He should be getting Mitch some more easy buckets and getting Grimes better looks. He’s needs to make adjustments this year and use all the weapons he has.

There was a bigger highlight clip from yesterday where this kid was really passing the ball and making plays (threading passes, blocks, rebounds, 3’s) all over - he could be legit.

Please stop posting this. The Knicks did NOT need to trade Obi to offer DDV the full MLE, As soon as Hart opted in to his Player option the Knicks had the required space. Knicks we're under absolutely 0 pressure or need to trade Obi.
