I like the 3 nights off part. I hope that we break 50 wins

Hope Brunson rests a few more games, we will need him if we are going to make a run in the playoffs

Might not have enough time to catch Philadelphia due to -6.5 games back but with Cleveland?

We're only 4.5 back of Cleveland for the 4th seed.

We've got 1 game against them.

Hypothetically speaking we're -3.5 back of Cleveland (including the W over them).

From there on out?

Cleveland loses 2 in a row?
Knicks win 2 in a row?

And we're literally 1.0 back with potentially 10+ games remaining aka potential dog fight.

You're looking at it from a micro view, macro view is always better.

Like I say, Cleveland is a .628 team over 3/4's of a season. Even if they went 11-10, that means 17-5 for the Knicks, regardless of the common game. Give to the Knicks and we're still talking 11-9 and 16-5.

Those are looong odds. Verrrrrry long on the Knicks side and pretty long on the Cavs side.

I'm not telling anything other than the odds here.

Been exactly three weeks since this post.

Let's see how this is shaking out.

Then:

4.5 behind Cleveland

Now:

3 behind Cleveland

Knicks gain +1.5 games

Then:

6.5 games behind Philly

Now:

6 games behind Philly

Knicks gain +0.5 games

Games remaining:

Knicks: 11 (winners of 2 in a row, 7 of 10)
Cavs: 11 (winners of 2 in a row, 5 of their last 6, 6 of 10)
Philly: 15 (winners of 5 in a row, 6 of 7, 7 of 10)

So again, let's assume the Knicks win 50, and go 9-2 the rest of the way.

For the Knicks to finish 3rd, Cavs would need to go 5-6 (which also applies to the knicks finishing 4th) and the Sixers 4-10.

I think the strong suggestion here is the same was it was 3 weeks ago. The Cavs and Sixers have proven themselves to be solid, well-over-.500 team for multiple seasons and the probability over the remainder of the 2022-2023 season was that they'd continue to perform similarly, despite minor streaks here and there, which they have.

And in the Cavs case, with 2 games (back-to-back in Brooklyn) remaining with the Nets, Knicks fans need to choose their poison as to who they want to see win.

There's no shame in not understanding probability.

For decades the "standings" in all sports have conditioned sports fan to look at the remaining season poorly.

The shame is in ridiculing, rejecting and mischaracterizing (out of ignorance) things you don't understand. That's an awful (but common) human trait.

People are uncomfortable with things they don't know or understand.

This thread since the end of page 2 is Exhibit A.

I don't recall you being ridiculed. You are a very optimistic fan which is good, but sometimes people need a reality check. I believed we had a shot at reaching the 3rd seed, you got excited and went over the top with it imo. I thought it was a long shot but was hopeful. I have been lurking here for quite a while, i was on knicks twitter for awhile, but it got a bit toxic. Don't delete your posts and we can have respectful debates. I'm not a rookie just because these are my first posts. I've been a season ticket holder for 10 years so I've seen some pretty ugly runs. This team is different! We are a 2nd rd team!

Hey man!

Good luck here ;-)

Yeah, Knicks twitter... yikes.

Wasn't talking about me, just to be clear. I wasn't adding anything original other than awareness of the probability models.

I mean the ridicule about the models being "AI" and assuming their creators don't watch basketball.

He wasn't ridiculing ME, he was ridiculing the IDEA that observing basketball, recording reliable long-term trends and indicators that have been tested ove time, and using that info to anticipate likelihood was NOT a good idea and that fan and recency bias was the better way to predict results.

OP was basically rejecting math and long-term observation and ridiculing IT.

Anyways, Knicks can still catch Cavs (HAVE to win the home game to get tie-breaker, and go on another streak). HOPE it happens.

I was gonna give you a pass, but then you said you've been lurking here for quite a while. Here's some study material for you. Once done, post something for the board to review. Only then will you be considered a serious poster.

Losses are the only thing that matters at this juncture. Cavs have 28, Knicks and Nets have 30. Miami on the outside but not out at 33. As long as Knicks avoid the six seed it's all good.

those last couple games might not have much meaning for us and I could hope that Thibs might rest guys the last couple games- I know he won't. But the last thing we need is a tire Randle and Brunson getting hurt and having that impact our play off success.

Nice to see Cleveland lose on the 15th before watching Brooklyn lose last night.

Final 11 Games:
Vs. Nuggets (46-23).
Vs. Timberwolves (35-34).
@ Miami (37-33).
@ Orlando (28-41).
Vs. Rockets (16-52).
Vs. Heat (37-33).
@ Cleveland (44-27).
Vs. Wizards (32-37).
@ Indiana (31-38).
@ New Orleans (33-36).
Vs. Pacers (31-38).

Eastern Conference:
1.) Milwaukee = 50-20 (.714%).

2.) Boston = 48-22 (.686%). -2.0.
3.) Philadelphia = 46-22 (.676%). -3.0.

4.) Cleveland = 44-28 (.611%). -7.0.
5.) New York = 41-30 (.577%). -9.5.

(Knicks = 1 more off night)

Games Today:
Celtics (2) @ Portland.
76ers (3) @ Charlotte.
Cleveland (4) vs. Wizards.

Would be exciting if both Philadelphia and especially Cleveland lost tonight.

Cleveland losing (without Jarrett Allen) would kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Cleveland loss tonight would = NY only 1 game behind Cleveland in the loss column (for the 4 seed) and Washington winning would also help NY's 1st round draft pick from the Wizards).

After New York just beat the #1 Seeded Western Conference Denver Nuggets squad?

New York is only 8 wins away from 50+ Wins for only the 14th time in Franchise History (77 YEARS) and on the verge of 50+ Wins for only the 2nd time throughout the previous 23 YEARS.

SAY WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT NYKMENTALITY (ME) BUT IF YOU'RE NOT OOZING EXCITEMENT WITH YOUR EACH AND EVERY 2023 POST?

Well then look in the mirror; because that's your own personal problem that you'll have to deal with (as a Sports fan) but I'm not listening 🤫
