D'Angelo Russell... Hmm. Remember 7 years ago, back in 2015... when we REALLY REALLY WANTED THIS GUY? Alas, he was picked 2 spots ahead of us.

The Nets ultimately signed him to a 4yr/~$120m deal before shipping him off for supposedly better options. Would the Knicks have given him that deal? Imagine he put up all of the same numbers to this point, except he was a Knick. Would we be happy?

His D is poor at best. In 2 playoff series, he's shot about 35%. But he's basically a player capable of putting up 20ppg/7apg on an average night.

I compare the success of the previous season to the disappointment of last season as essentially losing the identity as a tough defensive minded team and becoming more wishy washy in that area. With Thibs as coach defense first should be the identity of the team. We want better shooting and ball movement for sure to move up. But not at the cost of D. Players the Knicks bring in via FA, trades, or the draft should have that mindset.

Looking back on that draft - what a waste of time

Towns is way overrated- and he’s the best player.

I’m not sold on Brunson but acknowledge we don’t have a PG. I think the only way to get him is if he helps by agreeing to accept the MLE and then have us go back and negotiate a S&T instead. If you are Dallas and losing him for nothing, do you take Noel and Walker back as a consolation prize if only to make sure the Knicks have to spend real money on the guy?

Their counter is to offer their 20m per and refuse to deal with anyone else.

Preserving Salaries to fill the roster is becoming more and more necessary where teams are aggregating to two or three players making.

When it’s said and done, I don’t think Dallas let’s him walk for nothing if only taking the opportunity to fill the back of the bench.

You know I gonna spin wit it

About a year ago I thought Brunson would be a very nice target for the Knicks. I'm on the IQ train all the way now for a variety of reasons. Just think Brunson is not likely attainable and feel like the assets it would take to make that scenario happen are better used elsewhere. Also think IQ has perked up enough to make it worthwhile to stick with him as a homegrown guy.

2nd year comparison of IQ and Brunson and wow it was not what I would have thought: https://stathead.com/basketball/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1=brunsja01&p1yrfrom=2020&player_id2=quickim01&p2yrfrom=2022

I'm all for the Knicks shooting for Ivey/Daniels if they can move up to fill out the wing spot - Ivey as a breakdown guy who can score at will and Daniels as a lead PG possibility with floor as a defender/connector.

I know it's only pickup, but still....
