From what I’ve seen Americans have done an excellent job for the most part adhering to the guidelines.

And if there is a light at end of rainbow—I think in the future we will be much more equipped to deal with anything like this. We’ve also been woken up to better hygiene standards. Hoping this is just a blip on the screen

I fear that pretty much everything on this post except for the last aspect regarding waking up on hygiene standards will have been wrong when everything is said and done...

Not gonna lie man it's really hard. I work in one of the biggest cardiac surgery centres in the country and things are really rough. I'm a cardiac surgeon but I've been working from the ICU for 2 months now.

I started showing symptoms yesterday so I'm going to stay away from work for 7 days. That's the hardest part because I'd much rather be there helping out.

We've been working 13 hours a day for the past month and it's going to escalate from there. All leave is cancelled and our entire rota has been revamped so that we have extra doctors on call stall times.

I'm just hoping my bout is mild so I can get back out there.

I'm self isolating alone (good thing about being divorced lol) and my son is also self isolating because he has Crohn's so takes steroids.

I just want to stress again over and over how important it is not to underestimate this thing. Stay home. Wash your hands. Care for the vulnerable. Stay safe.

I know everyone has employment and money fears right now. It's really scary. But we have to worry about the health of the people first. Hopefully the government's of the world will support those who struggle in the short term. Here in the UK mortgages have been covered and eviction has been banned. People in gig economy can work in food/supply delivery which is obviously booming. Just please, prioritise the health and safety of the greater global community.

Stay safe. If anyone needs any advice let me know.

Fortunately i had picked up an oximeter so we can monitor that and i’ll know if i have to get her to a hospital. $40 at a pharmacy or amazon - i recommend it.

Holy crap, best of health to everyone.

I am guessing temp is a first indicator type of thing but oxygen is the key to how things are progressing?

that’s right. they’re focusing on oxygen level and/or difficult or shallow breathing as indicators of it progressing.

wow - thanks for the info

Oxygen saturation is a really good indicator of how consolidated/clogged your lungs are getting from the virus. A raised temperature is just a symptom of your immune system clicking into higher gear (hence it's a good indicator that you now have some sort of virus/infection). The more compromised your lungs become, the harder it becomes to deliver enough oxygen to the peripheral areas of the body and the important organs. Shortness of breath can be a good indicator that your not getting enough oxygen. So can a raised heart rate. If you start feeling like your breathing is compromised I would recommend calling your doctor and going to the hospital.

About the same for her. Low to mid-range fever. She basically feels sickly, but blood oxygen good, no cough, no trouble breathing. If it stays at this level she'll be ok. I’m still symptom-free.

Right. St Paddy’s Day, Spring Break, airport congestion and delay in mandated isolation have made things worse.

As a country we aren’t yet doing enough.

This is going to last for a while because of the necessary supply shortage.

Isolation, wash hands, be smart.

Two very different states obviously but stark difference in leadership handling. Timing of action will make a difference. And by way of inaction and Spring Break and elder population, I think Florida will get decimated.

Incredible graphic Martin, thanks for that. Gonna steal it for my UK covid medic groups if you don't mind.

Plus totally agree, Florida sadly is going to reap the consequences of irresponsible leadership and irreverent *******ry. People who think the US is doing enough and/or stabilising are about to get a real wake up call. It's just not the case unfortunately. Hopefully things turn around quickly.

From Italy, and remember, some heavy population spots may and probably will become similar in USA, we are just 7-14+ days behind Italy:

https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/21/coronavirus-plea-from-italy-treat-patients-at-home/

Although Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital is a new state-of-the-art facility, its 48 intensive-care beds and other advanced treatment capacity have staggered under the Covid-19 caseload, which passed 4,305 this week.

“We are far beyond the tipping point,” Nacoti and his colleagues write. With 70% of ICU beds reserved for critically ill Covid-19 patients, those beds are being allocated only to those “with a reasonable chance to survive,” as physicians make wrenching triage choices to try to keep alive those who have a chance. “Older patients are not being resuscitated and die alone without appropriate palliative care, while the family is notified over the phone, often by a well-intentioned, exhausted, and emotionally depleted physician with no prior contact,” they report.

Most nearby hospitals in the wealthy region are “nearing collapse while medications, mechanical ventilators, oxygen, and personal protective equipment are not available,” the physicians write.

Other health care in northern Italy has come to a near-halt, they report: The system “struggles to deliver regular services, even pregnancy care and child delivery, while cemeteries are overwhelmed … Vaccination programs are on standby.”

I work for a mid sized industrial supplier i am seeing huge defaults in our open account customers over the last 2 weeks. Our 45 Days A/R has spiked to 5 times our normal amount. Soon we will see a complete collapse of the supply chain. Contractors aren't getting paid, they aren't paying their distrubutors, who won't be able to pay manufacturers. I hope everyone here has plenty of weapons and ammunition our whole way of life is over

I got it! Now I'm prepared if I can find an open strip club.

Hope we take climate change seriously after this- big wake up call that we’re not invincible and horrific things can happen on a global scale. If we live through this, I’m considering it a second chance to right the environment (should actually have greatly reduced co2 emissions by the end of the year), and appreciate stuff I took for granted. hope we all come out of it with a new perspective and global unity.
