That's how you interpreted what Phil said. Phil clearly has a lot of work to do along with his GM Mills! Phil is not the GM. Phil is not a scout. He wants to help his young coach as much as he can and that's his prerogative. There's no rule that says a Prez can't do Mentoring.

Phil has a lot to offer a coach with limited experience. You want make this something negative but it doesn't have to be. Jeff and Phil seem to be on the same page on this. If Jeff has a problem with it he can say so. Phil says they talk all the time.

They met and I bet it was before KP was scheduled to meet. I think KP spoke to Melo and after hearing Melo's take on things KP got his bright idea. SMH! Melo is a F'n AWFUL Role Model!!!

In Feb he called out coaching staff and players
He's been pissed at his body having nick nack injuries holding him back
He is a fierce competitor that hates to lose

To me my guess is he wanted to jet stream out of NY as fast as possible to get home and to practice. He was wrong for missing this thing, but it's not about Melo or Melo influence. I think KP simply doesn't want to deal with more talk and blah blah. Just wants to go put in the work. In his last interview he was pretty clear in that he didn't want to waste time and that he wanted to get bigger stronger and live in the weight room. This season played its toll on KP. He's 21. Very unprofessional of him and Knicks should fine him but let it go since he is 21 and had a drama filled losing season to endure.

I appreciate your take but I still think it had to do with Melo. The only statement KP made was to Tweet a response to Melo's Tweet about Phil's comments on Melo. I think KP got an earful from Melo and decided at that point not to show up, Pure and simple IMO.

Also KP wasn't expressing any anger after the last few starts he had, so why all of a sudden would he be so upset??? KP had 3 20 PT games in a row before tweaking his back. The younger players had some positive performances to close the year so KP wasn't upset at all. Not until Phil said Melo needs to go!!! I could be wrong about this but it seems logical to me.

So what's was "confused from TOP to BOTTOM" statement about a few weeks ago that everyone pretended didn't happen?

People keep bringing up KP's comments out of context. Here's the entire statement.

“We’ve been switching things up because at any point of this season, we never played like we wanted to,” Porzingis said after fouling out with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. “It was like, ‘Maybe this will work. Maybe this will work.’ So we’re kind of looking for stuff.

“Coaches, they obviously try to do the best job they can and give us as much as they can so we have the information. But we never really got it all together and were able to execute the way we should have. It’s been a lot of confusion.”

Porzingis said the confusion is “from top to bottom. A lot of stuff that’s not clear. So it’s hard to play like that.”

“The situation is tough,” Porzingis said. “We’re not doing the right things. We’re just not working together right now. We need to find solutions. Whatever 16, 15 games we have left, we have to give everything we have so we can finish the season not regretting anything.”

The switching things up comment stems from the fact the Rose and BJ couldn't figure out the offense outside of PnR and the team as a whole couldn't figure out a way to get stops. Largely because Rose, Melo and BJ in particular were HORRENDOUS ON D.

KP started to get a groove as did the younger players as a whole and KP didn't have a reason to be angry about the style of play or execution by the time the season ended. This all popped up after Melo's Exit Meeting.

As usual, you are wrong trying to project the team's problems on players you don't like...This all started after the meeting around November 20th where the team decided to move away from the triangle..Phil was there..The players said Phil took it well..The switched style of play. They went 9-3, then Phil started his media war...Phil wasn't happy with success away from the triangle..This sews distrust with the players..The media, Melo haters included, is telling you ALL the players hate Phil..

You could say it's about Melo a million times and it doesn't mean that it is....

YOU are the one that wants this to be about Phil. It's really not about the Triangle switch. Phil and Jeff both agree on the direction and the younger players showed they can execute the offense Jeff has them running.

Phil at his Press Conference was supportive of Jeff's Offense as he has tweaked the Triangle. Phil accepted Jeff's early Offense but only wanted to make sure they were able to also execute in half court, late game type situations and so they refocused on fundamentals of the Triangle. The kids actually get it and also defended better. So by the end of the season they left on a positive note.

The negativity was all about Melo being forced out. KP doesn't want that but he's not running things! I'm confident that KP will apologize to Phil and Jeff cuz he was wrong to skip the Exit Meeting. KP will get over this and assume his position as a key player going forward hopefully WITHOUT MELO!

There's a difference in that Rose is a grown ass man with years more likely from experience and KP is just getting started. It doesn't excuse what he did but it does inform on his level of maturity. Also no one is defined by their worst day. KP can make up for this. He didn't murder a puppy. KP may have already talked to Phil.

Can't put this on Melo or the situation with Melo. I am interested to hear from KP's side. He hasn't said anything. Someone should reach him or his agent. This is very unprofessional, sort of like something a free agent on his way out from a team would do. Not a player who is seen as the main building block.

I feel the main reasons are

1- Losing
2- Drama
3- Not happy with constant coaching changes (3 coaches)
4- Not happy with system changes again and again
5- Not happy with his injuries

KP was the only one to do this. I think he should have had his meeting and if he wanted to actually make his wishes heard that was the way to do it. What does he really accomplish by NOT TALKING? Now Phil has no idea what KP feels except he's unhappy about Something! Can't fix a question mark.

I still think this was all about Melo. Things had stabilized before the end of the season! The kids started playing better and doing exactly what Phil and Jeff wanted from the team so why would KP be upset about the team finally executing as A TEAM???
