African Americans had the ability to thrive even when everything was stacked against us. However, the never ending assault has had detrimental impacts that are hard to overcome. Hundreds of years of oppression tends to do that. From 1619 till this very day this system has been set against us. There is no quick fix either. Just remember that they had to break the spirit of Slaves in order to control them. There were often more slaves than Non slaves but they maintained control thru extreme violence and fear. When my ancestors were freed after the Civil War the entire family was illiterate. Yet they were made to sign labor contracts with the former slave masters that they couldn't even read!!! They promised them land of their own but after initially giving it President Andrew Johnson rescinded the promise of land and took it back!!! Edisto Island S.C. Not to mention that it is a MYTH that Blacks are the biggest group to receive benefits!!! Nationally, most of the people who receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are white. According to 2013 data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the program, 40.2 percent of SNAP recipients are white, 25.7 percent are black, 10.3 percent are Hispanic, 2.1 percent are Asian and 1.2 percent are Native American.http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/6771938 |

Exactly what I meant - 11% of black population receives 25% of entitlements... "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." Hamlet

This isn't 1940--this is 2016 and the President of the U S the last 8 years is AA. I guarantee GUARANTEE people who feel racism is holding them back oppressing them or hindering their lives-- this rhetoric is falling on deaf ears. We are all the same and believe me no one cares about whining. The one thing that can be changed is to find people who help minorities rebuild infrastructure and triple down on thwarting drugs and crime. I think Trump is the guy who can help. Obama should've been the guy to do this he had two terms and if anything he went backwards RIP Crushalot😞

What are you counting when you say "entitlements"? Entitlement just means something you are legally entitled to have. For example, I own my car. I'm legally entitled to have it. Likewise, a citizen who pays taxes is entitled to social security, food stamps, and other support under certain circumstances. Often the word entitlement is used in a derogatory sense by people who don't know what it actually means (not saying that's you). They want to imply it's some kind of narcissistic feeling of entitlement rather than a legal entitlement to support from a system the person has contributed to. |

Then why would minorities vote for a guy who courts racists, why would they vote for a guy who supports the NRA who does nothing but help flood the inner cities with guns...Why would you vote for a guy who doesn't know what the nuclear triad is?? Why would you vote for a guy who thought Democratic VP candidate Tim Kaine, was the former Governor of New Jersey, a neighboring state of his, where he does business, no less...Why would you vote for a guy who admits he doesn't like to read...There are lots of reading that goes with running the free world..Why would you vote or trust a guy who has flipped on every issue multiple times, sometimes in the same day...He has a guy who was pressuring women to sleep with him because he was their boss, advising his campaign..You have daughters who will work one day?? He has another guy who peddle racist propaganda on the internet helping his campaign..He wife plagiarize during a speech for the highest, most honored, office in the land...This is befuddling... |

Yes these are chalked up to things that African Americans should be doing for the communities. Not to be confused with simple justice as touched on earlier which people often attempt to intertwine to justify one thing or another. At the same time, is the greater benefit the 400 yrs of slavery helping develop America or 25% of entitlements? http://mashable.com/2015/07/27/welfare-myths-debunked/#NeTPbGxNoEq3 Welfare recipients are often characterized as lazy, simply waiting for the next month's benefits to roll in. But nearly 73% of people receiving public benefits are members of working families. It's also difficult to work the system with the goal of becoming that bad apple. WIC and SNAP are full of restrictions preventing the use of coupons for monetary gain, while TANF is only available for five years within a person's lifetime. Eligibility requirements prevent government aid recipients from getting benefits if they don't demonstrate dire need. TANF programs, for example, have a federal lifetime limit of five years. https://vote.nba.com/en Vote for your Knicks.

Like Trump both BRIGGS and arkrud have no idea what you're talking about!!! You both need to first go learn about how hundreds of years of institutional racism impacts African Americans in an adverse and insidious way that is so deeply imbedded in every crevice of this country's being that no President could by himself solve the problem. Institutional Racism is like weeds in a garden that have deep roots. It's very difficult to completely get rid of them. If you just ignore it as if it's not there the weeds only get worse. It's gonna take a very comprehensive approach to fixing the problem. Blacks didn't create the problems they have! They had horrible things done TOO THEM which caused these problems. Hundreds of years of iintentionally depriving a people of education, terrorist violence, killing black leaders, destroying entire successful Black Communities out of hatred, spite and envy, removing financial resources, predatory lending, over policing and encarceration... The list goes on and on. Most of this is intentional but some is just baked into the cake. Trump as president won't make things better! He doesn't even know the real reasons behind the problems to begin with so how can he fix anything??? You can't just drop in on a Black church and fully understand the issues impacting Black communities. BRIGGS, arkrud, neither of you know enough about this to understand why Trump and the Republican Party are not capable of helping to solve the problems in the African American community. I can tell by your statements that you guys don't fully appreciate the depth of the problem. I can help you to come to understand if you're really interested in learning. |
