The stars are all over the TV in commercials and stuff now, and none of them are in NY. Does Blake, Curry, Chris Paul need NY to be in State farm commercial? No. Lebron doesnt need NY either. Kobe never has. Does Durant make more from Sprint if he plays in NY? No. These player dont need the fantasy of what playing in NY offers. it's a myth. if you're good, endorsements and business opportunities are gonna come your way. Westbrook got his deal from true Religion because he's a "unique style of dress" type player.NY wasnt and isnt required.
Where are the Aldridge, Gssol and Cousins commercials? Some players do need the boost you can get from a big market. Hardly anyone knows those other players. If you were the agent for Aldridge do you think it would help to suddenly gain millions of Knicks fans?

We're talking about endorsements right? Why did you just post jersey sales and team merchandise? The Knicks are popular because NY has alot of traffic in population and tourists, it will always be a hot ticket. The point still stands....no player NEEDS NY to improve their endorsements, if you're good those companies will seek you out no matter where you play. Now lets stick to the actual point.....endorsements.
LeBron James: $42 million (Nike)
Kobe Bryant: $34 million (Nike)
Derrick Rose: $21 million (Adidas)
Kevin Durant: $14 million (Nike)
Dwyane Wade: $12 million (Li Ning)
Carmelo Anthony: $9 million (Jordan/Nike)
Amar’e Stoudemire: $6.5 million (Nike)
Dwight Howard: $6 million (Adidas)
Blake Griffin: $6 million (Jordan/Nike)
Chris Paul: $4 million (Jordan/Nike)
This is what players have made from their endorsements, now here is something that is startling....
New York's finest surprisingly comes in at No.1. Carmelo Anthony said that he was not about the money, but he's picked up 15 sponsors. He's trying to make a splash next to the likes of LeBron and Kobe. Melo has deals with Nike's Jordan Brand, Foot Locker, IWC, Steiner Sports, Mission, Samsung, PowerCoco, Haute Watches, Jeep, SMS Audio, Isotonix, Delta, Degree deodorant, Locker Room and Starwood.
However, Melo is only making $ 9 million in all.
Melo's name is in a lot of places....but he aint making the coin.
The only players you have above Melo are current or former league MVPs and champions though. You basically have to win several rings, MVPs, or both outside NYC to get the big endorsements.
9 mil is low if claiming being in NY is where it is. The majority of that came from his Jordan branded shoe which he had PRIOR to NY. I will say Melo has had more investment opportunities, but at the end of the day making the coin is what matters. Speaking of commercials and stuff, you dont really see melo's commercials outside of nY and that hurts his brand as well. But I get your point and it kinda proves mine....if you're a good player those endorsements are gonna come to you no matter where you reside.
You are wrong to think that a big market doesn't matter when it comes to endorsements..It's not the amount of money but the number of endorsements..When Amare signed with NY, the numbers of endorsements jumped significantly..Melo shouldn't be ahead of Blake Griffin and Chris Paul who are endorsing on a national scale, yet he is...
Actually Melo isnt. His shoes deal is what is carrying him. Wait a sec? It's not about the money? You cant be serious.
Melo isn't what??..Melo makes more money via endorsements than Blake and Chris Paul according to Forbes..Melo sells more shoes than both...Melo has more endorsement opportunites because of NY than those two..Are you disputing those facts??
Melo has been the premier Jordan brand player since before NY.....he should make more. Lets see Melo's new shoe deal once his Denver one is up. I've never debated how MANY endorsements he has...it's irrelevant. He aint making the coin of them, the majority of his cheese comes from his shoes, the shoes he's been endorsing since Denver.
First off, number of endorsements are not irrelevant because it shows you there are more opportunities in NY..Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are with Jordan Brand as well..Melo will make more money if the Knicks are better when he resigns with Jordan..
This is 2013 sales...

Melo selling more sneakers than KD and DRose should tell you something..Melo has one of the top selling jerseys as well...And this matters because it shows exposure in the market..

KD makes more from his shoes than Melo and Rose just signed a 13 year 160 mil deal from Adidas. NY adds nothing, close the debate.
Speaking of Kevin Durant....Sales for Durant’s Nike signature sneakers jumped 400% last year from $35 million to $175 million in the U.S., according to research firm SportsOneSource.
