NYC can be the worst place now for Melo if the heat keeps getting turned up. NYC the lifestyle will become secondary to NYC the emotional cauldron. He'd want to leave. If Phil wants him gone, then Melo will want to leave. He is scared of Phil after all, ha ha

And when is it too much for prima donnas? Since Melo's been here, like literally since the trade went through, hes been criticized for: gutting the team, chasing money, being selfish, being a chucker, being a ball hog, taking the team away from Amare, getting D'antoni fired, chasing money, bringing the CAA into things, making players worse, being mentally weak, not being a leader, influencing management not to re-sign Lin, not being Lebron, not being Durant, and chasing money. This has been since 2011.

Your litany of horrors came AFTER he came from Denver.

Melo had to wait for free agency to regain his leverage.

That is the only factor here.

Ascribing fortitude to Melo by virtue of sticking out his contract is silly. He wasn't going anywhere until he got paid. That's the real and only bottom line here.

Oh, and all the things you list: they are true, but completely unnecessary for discerning what the real pivot points are in this situation.

Honestly, in my opinion, if he really couldn't take the stuff from the media, he would've been gone by now. That was my point. Since 2011, he's had almost every negative occurrence attributed to his presence on the team. I think if he really couldn't take it, he'd be gone by now. We're going to have to agree to disagree.

I understood your point and I explained why it carries little weight. We're talking about a person whose primary ambition was to lock in $124M + a $17.5M trade kicker. That is all Melo needed to withstand any of us saying his mama wears army boots.

How does that mean my point has weight? If anything, we agree. He's got the money which is what he wanted. The stuff the media says isn't getting to him.
not sure if your aware but splat knows specifically what Melo is thinking with each decision he makes. Its hard to argue with that level of knowledge. Best to let it go an let the jihadists rejoice in the prospect their greatest infidel being vanquished. Its their day

Yeah, I don't mind criticism of Melo cause he kind of has some coming to him but the whole thing with knowing his motives and what's in his mind baffles me.
exactly... Melo is a dumb jock. Ive said it plenty of times (and remember he IS my HERO ) but the 3-4 guys here who post in every thread about his motives are just making stuff up to support an agenda. Maybe its what got them kicked off the boards they used to post on. Who knows. Who cares.

Melo is a dumb jock who is Top 5 at the same time

Therefore support and build around him for the 4th time in his career

It could work if these dangerous fans would stop knifing him

In his bad back and chopping his character down to size at his bad knees

Nah I believe this has some legs. The team is 4-20 it sounds like Melo's teammates do not have his back at all. How can an organization run like that if your main guy is the most hated guy in a team game? I don't see this as a rumor Berman made up--someone talked to him from the Knicks.

Simple, a majority of these players won't be here next year and they know it. They know the poor start is blamed on the supporting cast by management. Hating on Melo is the only way to try to save face for the guys who won't be there next season. It's their only hope (even a small hope) at a change of direction. Phil is in purge mode-everyone minus Melo and maybe calderon is fighting an uphill battle.

This is an interesting take. Fair point too. A lot of guys haven't done there part to better their own games. Take THJ for example. I was high on him coming into the year, but he has done very little to improve on his flaws from last season, which was disappointing and is mostly on him. Same could be said for other players as well. At the end of the day though, people typically get paid for production in FA, so I don't see this helping very much.

It won't help at all, but it is a desperate attempt and is definitely happening. This happens in sports a lot. This team is in such a crazy time because they know Phil is counting down the days until he can get rid of everyone, and this has been the case since he took the job.

Mr. President, did an intern give you a blowjob inside the Oval Office?

I did not have sexual relations with that woman.

I suck. The team sucks. Melo's fault. Where have we heard this before?

This will always be the case. It's a NY thing. When will LA fans turn on CP3 for not getting them passed the 2nd round, despite having Blake, Jordan, etc? When will New Orleans turn on Anthony Davis if he can't get them in the playoffs soon, despite having some pretty good players on the team? When will OKC turn on Durant and Westbrook for failing to bring a title? All teams are dealing with different issues. We are dealing with a trash roster that has maybe 2 other players who belong in an NBA rotation, but if we suck it will always be blamed on the star player. It is what it is.

Is there anybody who post here can type with a straight face

That if the Bulls called up Phil and said we have a package for Melo

Very attractive for both teams, Phil would approach Melo's BULLETPROOF LEGACY Team

And Melo would reply back

"'Naaahhhhh I'm good right where' I'm at

Keep the $17.5mil I have plenty money'

Like I said I'm all about winning a chip here in NYC"

The trade kicker only gets applied if Melo is making under the max. So, if he gets dealt this season, he would not stand to get the kicker. Next season, as he is a couple mil under the max the trade kicker would be applied, as would subsequent years when the cap goes up and he is no longer at the absolute max.

But this season? If he does get dealt he wont get the kicker.

(Talk of Anthony’s trade kicker is a little daffy, at least for this year. A trade kicker can’t add to a max contract, and Anthony has a max contract this season. When the salary cap bumps up over the next several years, and Anthony technically isn’t making max money, then the kicker would be established; but it’s only at a 15 percent rate, and has nothing to do with 2014-15.)

Berman is a premium Knick reporter. He's not the guys who come in and out--he's been there for as long as I can remember. I know the Knicks cannot stand Isola--so using him is likely out--but how can anyone believe that someone from the Knicks organization did not plant this with Berman? The guy has to see Melo almost every day. Hes going to kill Melo for nothing? I doubt it makes 0 sense--this came from the Knicks--they wont do it through Newsday atleast not now. Melo is going to talk to Berman of how this story came out UNLESS he already knows. Melo was quick with denial from him his agent etc.. super quick.

Isola was the guy Melo went to in the offseason- if he was going to leak out about being traded he would have used him. So either the knicks used Berman, or like many times in the past Berman just got it wrong.
