The Knicks are capped out for the next 3 years regardless. The only thing this does is save Dolan money. It has no impact on anything else whatsoever. We can't sign anyone with the money we save. Not really understanding how letting a potential star leave for nothing to save a year's worth of luxury tax payments is a "smart" business decision. This is in no way comparable to Jerome James or any other long-term cap destroying contract. So there's no "insanity" involved in this process. The Knicks are letting a talent slip away for what amounts to Dolan not wanting to pay.

Easy to say when it's not your money. The decision has been made and the Knicks are going with Felton. Of course there is still an hour and a half to go.

The Knicks can never seem to every do soemthing right. We get Amare and he plays well for half a season. We get melo and have to trade half the team to get him. We get Lin and he does not even stay a season. It seems like we are always chasing that carrot held infront of our faces. Just when we get close enough it swings away. This is why I think Knicks are going to let Lin go. No way will they do the right thing.

Alan Hahn tweet confirmed Lin is gone.

Alan Hahn‏@alanhahn

The #Knicks just confirmed they will not match the three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet Jeremy Lin signed with the Houston Rockets.

Well at least now I'll be able to get some sleep.

I wish Lin well in Houston (at least for 80 games in the schedule). Certainly will have a soft spot for the Linsanity run. That said, I think I'll end up missing Gallo/Chandler more than Lin. Always a different story when they choose to leave, and let's not mince words, he chose to leave.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/8175591/new-york-knicks-confirm-match-houston-rockets-offer-jeremy-lin

The New York Knicks confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com's Ian Begley they will opt not to match the offer sheet point guard Jeremy Lin signed with Houston.

The Knicks had until 11:59 p.m. ET Tuesday to announce their decision whether they will match Houston's three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet or let the Rockets have Lin, who became an international phenomenon during a dazzling February.

A team source told Begley earlier this week that the third year of the Rockets' offer -- worth $14.8 million -- caused the Knicks to consider letting Lin go. If the Knicks matched the offer, they would have been subject to a luxury tax in the third year, potentially bringing their total out-of-pocket cost for the team's salary to about $43 million in 2014-15.

The Rockets' offer to Lin would pay him $5 million in the first year, $5.225 million in the second and $14.8 million in the third, according to sources.

Lin, a restricted free agent, made $788,000 last season.

Sorry but I don't wish Lin well in Houston.

Steve Popper: Knicks won't speak on the Lin decision tonight other than confirmation of declining to match. Don't expect much from statement either. 3 minutes ago

Fuck the Knicks. This was about egos not finances. The stretch provision would've saved them $20mm on the tax. Don't try to hoodwink us new york. This team is being run by Melobury, Dolan's new object of attraction.

So WHY... wouldn't the Knicks want to sign Lin... and use him as an asset to trade for some 1st round picks back?

How many teams would line up to pay the kid $14.8 mil?
