And Andre Miller and like us, if their PG goes down yes, they are PHUCKED!!!!
Yeah but they're not dumb enough to go into the season planning for Toney Douglas to be the full time PG with Baron Davis and Mike Bibby as the backups.
Some teams plan ahead. They groomed Lawson while they had Billups. They respected Feltons vision of not thinking he was a back up and traded him to a situation he could get an opportunity to start in. They received good value in Miller who is very durable (never misses games) and has been a great addition.
Im not slamming the knicks here but lets be real, when you are in "WIN NOW" mode you have to get what you can and the Knicks were not able to solve the PG deficiency at the seasons start. Baron Davis on paper was a great Idea and it sure jacked up the fans. He was far worse that I was expecting regarding his conditioning and his back. But we were all told he'd be out for "Weeks" but many thought it was a smoke screen so he could get out of Cleveland gracefully. We did get Lin.
When you look at teams over the years many rebuildings do fail. Some require luck and others patient. IN recent years we have seen joke franchises like the Clippers, Hawks and Memphis come together. The Wolves who seemingly drafted every point guard did get Rubio and he was better than he was in europe to many's surprise. Love is a top flight talent and they are positioned to nice going forward.
Denver is taking a multi year approach to rebuilding. INstead of getting rid of its coach who was in poor health they decided to retool and use Melo as an asset to do so. They can get bounced out of playoffs with him and perhaps without him they can for a while. Its their choice.
"Win Now" has its upside but we all know the risks.
All in all it seems the Spurs have done an amazing job getting the right people around Duncan without the perils of "win now". They don't do it every year and they have had their share of disappointment but they don't get the media slam they do in NY, or maybe the fans don't buy into it if they did. The franchise is to be respected and given the benefit of the doubt.
The Knicks have not earned that respect.
It starts at the top and works its way down.
