IMO no matter what we needed another PG on this roster. The risk of injury is too great to not keep a kid like this around just in case. I think Lin will stick mostly due to the fear of having NO PG's, which is a real possibility with Bibby and Davis. God forbid TD turns an ankle or something. We have to keep another PG on the roster for this reason.

Lin at least has the kind of game that fits the role a PG has to play in this system. He can penetrate and kick and run PnR. That's more than TD ever does and Bibby is more of a spot up shooter now. Until B Diddy and Iman come back we have ZERO penetraters at the guard spot.

I think anybody with a basketball mind, and who understood that we need to find a hidden PG gem in the draft, was all over this player (along with others) back then....I know I was hoping the Knicks picked him in the second round.

With the right coaching and development, he could be a nice PG to groom long term. I agree, he has better PG IQ than Douglas and even Iman. Of course, Iman is my dude, and he out shines Lin in all other areas, but just looking at the PG skills like passing and court vision. Dribble penetration to get others open vs getting open shots for himself.

He's an unselfish PG with real passing abilities.....He still needs to increase his strength and speed and nba experience. But he's a solid MDA type of PG to have on this team. Especially now with Shump out for a month.

Here's another evaluation of Lin's game.

Now, at 6’3”, 200 lbs., Jeremy Lin is a physical player. Last year with the D-League team, the Reno Bighorns, Lin averaged 18 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

According to Hollinger, Lin is a “big, aggressive point guard who rebounds well for his size and draws fouls.” And on defense, Lin has a “great nose for the ball and good hands.”

He is an active defender, which helped him gather 33 steals in 285 minutes last season. His superb steal rate equates to about one steal every ten minutes, a very impressive rate for a young point guard.

Lin excels at getting to the basket. I believe that with the Knicks, Lin’s production will skyrocket, because he will be able to hand the ball off to Amare Stoudemire or Tyson Chandler at the hoop, or dish the ball out to Carmelo Anthony or, say, Steve Novak for the three-pointer. Last season, about 60% of Lin’s assists can at the rim, while around 20% came from deep. With such talent at both of his passing spots, I expect Lin’s assists to go up.

There are no guarantees on any player, but it seems that in Lin's case he may not have had the best opportunities to excel in his brief NBA career. Maybe he can catch on here, considering how the Knicks are bereft of talent at PG. I wouldn't be too quick to write this kid off. Remember people here doubted that Iman and Jorts would be able to contribute and we see that they have enough talent to contribute. Sometimes players just need a chance to show what they can do.

no they weren't, that's why it was a special notation to BRIGGS, he got it before the draft special masses were clued in.

+1
I called him a POSSIBLE "poor man's Steve Nash" in my opening comment, Martin.
I TOTALLY agree that sees something in Lin that reminds him of Nash
and I HOPE that he gets a chance to develop that.

Now, I'm off to channel my inner Grunwald some more
and get ready for another round of FREE NBA League Pass action tonight. :<)

From reading those articles he sounds like he can be a really good fit and at least be ok defensively. Maybe Lin-Shump backcourt of the bench will be good when all PGs are healthy. Right now we will as a lot from him, and hopefully he won't falter like TD. MDA must be on fantasy land.

I am CONVINCED that the media pulls thoughts/ideas from our postings and runs with them.
Realistically, I question whether the front office/brass of the NYK would pay much attention to us,
but stranger things have happened.........dunno, maybe public relations people?? check us out??
I'm sure that Martin and/or Andrew might have more insight into this......

Exactly.

Lin (Harvard) and Fields (Stanford) can debate the virtues of their respective schools on the team bus.

It is a match made in hoops heaven.

Kinda reminds me of our former Rhodes scholar, "Dollar Bill" Bradley.

Are you guys flippin' for real? Who gives a rats ass that he went to Harvard?
This is basketball, not a damn court of law or labratory? I got my Masters at a pretty damn good school and get my ass handed to me by high school drop outs every time I step on the playground. You guys are hilarious.

i like this move a lot.

i remember briggs highly touting the kid, and then the footage of him taking it to john wall in summer league.

great, low risk pick up.

grunwald has been doing an excellent job with these types of pickups. when you have a foundation in place, the melo/amare/tyson frontcourt, it's easier to sdd little fill in the gaps players like novak, bibby, lin, etc.

great move. and i agree with those who say that this kid could become a sort of project for MDA. it's been a LOOOONG time since MDA had a young PG to work with and this could be good. i know Lin is not quite as big, but i always saw a little of goran dragic's PG game in Lin.

The Answer Worked At A Laundromat When He Attended Cornell

Q. Panos - I got my Masters at a pretty damn good school and get my ass handed to me by high school drop outs every time I step on the playground.

A. Perhaps you need to work on your defensive stance and footwork. Zumba classes are forming now. I got my masters at a pretty good school and deal up those high school dropouts every chance I get.

Q. Panos - Who gives a rats ass that he went to Harvard?

A. No one, really. It's cited more a fun fact in the same manner Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, because we know ALL Ivy League types are soft, right?

Q. Panos - Are you guys flippin' for real?

A. Absolutely. We have a Jeremy Lin fan club and everything. We are juiced.

Why? They are not saying anyone going to Harvarf can play ball, they are saying this guy with real NBA talent may have an extra edge because he is smarter than the average baller. Why is having a fully functioning brain considered a handicap for athletes? Do you really prefer the Marbury/Nate type? A thinking player with average skills can be much more useful than some athletic freak who isn't smart enough to walk and talk at the same time ( See Anthony Randolph).

I don't believe that one would have an extra edge. Ball is ball.
I never said its a handicap, I said its not correlated.

+1 Misterearl.
My guess is that it will take Panos some time before he decides to apply for membership.

You're misrepresenting me KBC. I didn't say I didn't like the kid. I'm excited to have a pass-first PG, finally. But I don't care that he went to Harvard, and not LSU or UConn.
