Source says Baron Davis could decide where he's playing as early as Monday. Knicks, Lakers, Heat all interested. NYK in poll position.

i agree with this. MSG brings out the best in Baron. would be an exciting pickup.

Hope Baron Davis ends up with the Knicks for his sake. NYK fans/media/MSG will bring best out of him. It's the right match.

There's no reason not to pick him up if we have the opportunity.

Watching this game today vs. Nets, Toney just does not have the vision or ability as a playmaker. He cannot be the long term solution at PG.

He would really help bring some balance to lineup, along with stronger PG play

PG Davis/Bibby
SG Shumpert/TD/ Walker
SF Melo/ Fields/Balkman
PF Stoudemire/ Jeffries
C Chandler/ Jorts/ Jordan

It allows Fields to slide to the 3 and serve as a pretty good 6th/ 7th man off the bench. Or he could start at the 2 because he would probably play better with a better facilitator.

yeah, we should basically make t-shirts with that lineup at this point. that's our lineup, dammit!

If Davis can get healthy (big if) he would totally change the starting unit into a full power unit. IMO I don't think there would be a better starting unit in the east if we upgrade the PG spot. Davis is about the only PG left with the capability of playing at a high level. The only question is just how bad his back really is. Baron's avg'd 7 assists a game for his career and that's with some bad years mixed in that bring his avg down. Talent wise he's a MUCH better passer than people give him credit for.

If i'm Davis the Knicks are the best spot, cuz the Heat have 2 guys that need the ball to excel. We have guys that can only improve with a good passer. STAT and Tyson would immediately benefit from a good passer. So who else could we get that could avg 7-10 assists like Davis? Gotta hope he can recover.

D'Antoni on BDiddy:

DAVIS DECISION

Baron Davis is expected to make a decision on his future by Monday. The Knicks are considered the favorites to sign the veteran guard but Miami and the Los Angeles Lakers are also interested. Davis’ agent has said he’ll be sidelined 8-10 weeks with a bulging back disc.

“It’s worth a risk of exploring it,” D’Antoni said. “I’m sure (GM) Glen (Grunwald) and the medical staff is going to look and see and come up with a good conclusion. He’s an interesting player. I’m sure a lot of teams will evaluate whether in a shortened season that it’s worth it or not. He’s a very good basketball player.”

The Knicks, sources say, prefer Baron Davis to Arenas and are trying to convince BD to sign with them in the next 48 hours.

Alright, what does this tell me, right here? It tells me that we are a top 3 destination. Arenas, btw could be superb here, for the right price, of course. Anyway, top 3 destination, bag bang bang. Do I need to say more?

I agree. It also is why the Knicks have Tyson.

Anyone have an explanation why we didn't sign Baron for two years? At the league minimum, it should be a no-brainer for the Knicks, and since he's getting paid by Cleveland, he has no interest in getting a better contract. Any thoughts? Doesn't make sense to me, especially if he's going to be out or ineffective half this season with injury, at least we'd have him in the stable for next...

Maybe it's a wait and see thing. He might not come back as the same player, I guess it all depends on how serious the back issues are.

Maybe Baron only wanted 1 year to see how he likes it? NY isn't for everyone. Or maybe he just wanted a chance in the spotlight to play well and get a big pay day somewhere else?

Who knows - there are a lot of possibilities.
