"I'm not against this trade, but it's waaay too early to tell if it's a great trade or not."

Like everyone else in this thread, im making predictions. Sorry if im being a little quixotic by assuming everythings gonna work out, but the trade looks pretty good. Its pretty hard for a team fk up with 3 potential allstars. Its also pretty hard for a team to get WORSE after getting rid of 2 s--t PG's (Ward WAAAAY passed prime, Eisley didnt even have one) and getting a definitely top 5 PG. IMO, Dice will NEVER get back to his old form. Sure thats a prediction, but just look at Grant Hill, Zo, and (ironically) Penny.

In terms of this year, the trade is NO DOUBT a plus. You cant say its not. In terms of the future (in 1-2 seasons), no one can tell but it doesnt look too good. Of course, all the knicks fans are hoping that Zeke the Messiah will pull of more miraculous trades that will add to the team in the long term.

With this trade the Western conference is the land of the giants (Shaq, Duncan, KG, Amare, etc..) and the Eastern conference will have the best small men in the business (Iverson, Kidd, Marbury, Baron Davis).... Maybe the East can win the title.

Trade Breakdown:

Knicks:
Pros: Knicks get the all-star PG they've coveted for years; at just shy of 27, Marbury is reaching his prime. His career averages of 20ppg/8apg are dream games for most point guards (including Ward & Eisley).

Knicks also get Penny Hardaway, who at this stage of his career is a solid backup wing who can do a little of everything.

The Knicks also created 1 more roster spot for CBA/NBDL/European castaways... Is Leon Smith a lock now?

Knicks got some value back for the not-quite-100% McDyess, who didn't seem to be in the team's plans, Ward, who could return to NY in the event he's waived... and Eisley, whose horrible contract (and even worse performance) are finally gone.

Cons:
Giving up this year's draft pick unconditionally will bite us in the *** if don't make make the playoffs this year. However... the Knicks have traditionally used draft picks / rookies as trading commodities and rarely have kept any players of their own.

One way to look at it: Ward, Eisley, McDyess, two 2nd round picks, and two 1st round picks for Penny / Marbury / Trybanski

Penny / Marbury earn a huge amount of money, and practically guarantee that the Knick will remain over the cap through 2007.

Phoenix:
Pros: The Suns will have about $10million in cap space after this season, that's assuming it lets go of McDyess/Ward.

Antonio McDyess has a second chance in Phoenix. Where he fits when Amare and Cabarkapa come back, who knows. At least a gimpy McDyess is an improvement over Scott Williams.

Lampe COULD become a player... or not. There's not much you can do about his slow feet, which probably limits his upside. He put up similar numbers to Cabarkapa in the summer leagues but is several years younger.

Vujanic could become a player... or not. he's not even in this country! No way to tell how good he'll be. Sure he played on the Yugoslavian team that won the 2002 world championships... but Jaric played most of the PG minutes, not Vujanic. There have been tons of excellent foreign PGs (and excellent college PGs for that matter) that have done squat in the NBA.

Two first round picks, including an unconditional 2004 pick. Could be big if the Knicks bomb. Even if it's a fringe lottery pick, the scouts in Phoenix will make better use out of the picks than the Knicks would have.

Cons:
They're stuck with Eisley for a while. This team is seriously stripped of backcourt talent... and not even the greatness of Howard Eisley can lead them into the playoffs.

While there's a lot of potential talent in this trade, the ready to play talent (Ward/Eisley/McDyess) is mediocre. The draft picks and former 2nd round picks could turn out to be average players, if they arrive at all.

Overall, the Knicks mortgage their future and take a gamble that Marbury leads the team to the playoffs. Phoenix takes 2 gambles: 1) that the Knicks don't make the playoffs and 2) the picks/prospects turn into stars.

The Deal sends Marbury, Anfernee Hardaway, and Cezary Trybanski to New York inexchange for Antonio McDyess, Howard Eisley, Charlie Ward, Maciej Lampe, the rights to Milos Vujanic, and cash.

"The Suns also would receive two first-round draft picks -- the Knicks' first-round pick in the 2004 draft, which is unprotected, and a future conditional first-rounder, ESPN.com

LayDown is so damn slow, he's prolly just getting the news that he's been fired. The friggin' retard will realize that Marbury was traded here sometime around Valentine's day. What an ass.

Thank GOD for Messiah Thomas!

With the right help, yes, he can. If he has the right coaching, too.
He's the best PG we've had since Mark Jackson. Go ahead and embarass yourself by trying to argue with me on that.

WOW,WOW WOW, Sorry Fella'I'm late but just got in. A real GM sure can make a difference. I can't wait to see them play together. The East just got a little more interesting, as the Knicks creep up to the top.

There is a question as to whether Marbury can shed his past image and perform in NY as well as bring his teammates with him. Wihtout a doubt he is a top 3 PG in the league if not #2. Steve Kerr posted an article that syas NY is a EC title contender now. I hope so. I still think they need a low post threat to go with their current group. However, that being said it is time for this team to mesh and build its chemistry and confidence.

NY will now have 3 threats to take shots at the end. marbury will WILL his team to win some games. NY has lost some toughness with WARD being gone (will be in Houston, next week?) but other than that they really lost nothing.

In his 2 trades, Isiah shed Spoon, Eisley, Ward and Dice for Norris, Marbury and HArdaway! The 2 positions, NY had alot of PF and PG are now down to reasonalbe numbers and the best players are at the positions (KT and Marbury). I think their PF depth is questionable now. I expect Leon Smith will be signed. The roster stands at 14 with Ameachi being waved tomorrow, so they say. This leaves room for Smith and another player.

To me it is amazing what isiah ahs done, in so little time. If Layden was still here, the team would be exactly as it was opening night and that is a shame. He sees 14-22 and changes it. That is a leader.

To be clear I have not been a Marbury fan in the past, but I think back home, he will SHINE. If not here, than where?
