I'm not sure why this is bad... most of the elite coaches are control freaks and ego maniacs. The question is does it help the team to win games. If Nate continues his current play would his benching be about MDA being an egomaniac control freak or about good old fashioned bench him till he gets it right coaching?

YOu don't dance around it, you dance TOO it!!!!!

Add up the last 10 winning coaches and look at the ego's. They are big.

You don't have to like MDA. He is trying to change a losing culture and you do it by either benching or getting rid of losers.

He has not a nice guy to: Marbury, Eddy, Larry, and Nate.

He benched an unproductive player for two games and the dude is crying.

D'antoni needs to keep doing what he's doing. Does't matter if we like it or not.

We're in the playoff hunt, that's ALL that matters.

I'm actually shocked at how many fans around the web don't like MDA. It's not a majority from what i'm seeing, but it's a very vocal minority. The thing I don't get is WHY? All this guy has done is try to turn this thing around when almost every analyst felt that he was saddled with a no win situation. Remember the quote from George Karl that it wasn't fair to MDA to make him coach a team in a throw away yr.?

The guy seems to have really made an effort to adjust to his roster and that's often a tough thing for a coach to want to do. It proves that he wants to win more than prove his system is perfect. They said he didn't want to or didn't know how to coach D and he's shown that he's as creative there as he is on offense. He's inspired the guys to play consistently hard for the 1st time in years. We may not always win, but they play hard. Even last year the team tried hard most games.

I know that if I was doing a crappy job as an employee I could expect to be fired. Obviously Hughes thinks that playing time is unrelated to performance. In the mind of Hughes, a player should be guaranteed a spot in the rotation for the entire season no matter how ****ty he plays. Because that would be fair. Merit based rotations are just not fair. I totally agree with Hughes, duh.

i don't think playa is defending Hughes other than understanding why a veteran who's been in this league & put up some #'s over his career might have been left dumbfounded as to why he was suddenly benched when he was a large part of the recent turn around the team had had & was trying to come back from a recent injury... playa is bringing up a legitimate point here & that is the fact that MDA doesn't seem to communicate well with players that he takes out of his rotation... it's been a pattern w/him since he's been here & there are accounts of this during his time in Phoenix as well... it rubs some veteran players the wrong way & that is a concern, especially when we're looking to attract elite veteran players here this offseason in free agency.

it seems that anyone who ever says a disparaging word around here against a coach or player are labelled as haters & their points of view are completely dismissed... this has been happening for the longest... before when people were criticizing Don Chaney, Lenny Wilkins, Larry Brown & Isiah Thomas, you got the same labels cast upon you by the masses that never seem to want to disparage anything & accept things for what they are without question, until things escalated into complete disaster & guys started realizing that posters like islesfan were right all along when it came to their "hater" comments... why does it take things to get to that level before people finally start to at least consider the points that these "haters" are making? i've been guilty of this myself on occasion... having the balls to challenge the status quo & raise legitimate questions about a coach or player is never easy, because you open urself up to criticism from the masses... that doesn't make those alternate viewpoints worthless or insignificant by any means... i would say it's absolutely necessary to maintain the health of any message board, especially when it comes to sports where EVERYONE & their mommas have an opinion.

let me also add it's absolutely essential to have posters like BballJones around to keep the threads light & bearable with their daily dose of insanity.

"Nothing was explained," Hughes said.

"It's easy to communicate," he added. "It's a long season, you always want to have dialogue and talk things out. Every night's not going to be your night. I understand that. Those are things you need to talk about . . . I definitely want the dialogue."

i don't really see a big problem w/what Larry Hughes is saying personally... all of us would want to know where we stood w/our bosses... communicating your intention to your players, especially the veterans, can't be a bad thing.

He just doesn't understand how to handle his boss. Just walk up to Danphoney and say "Listen *******, play me or I'll kick you in the nuts!" I'll bet that will get some results.

on another note, MDA wondered why Hughes failed to communicate to his coach why he shot 14% since his return from injury and why he had more turnovers than assists in that same time frame.

Larry was hanging on with King James so he is thinking this makes him important.
I think he is delusional.

Yea, he's such a scrub that the only negative result from this whole issue has nothing to do with Hughes himself, but Lebron James.
