Stupid?

Lazy?

How about some other opinion?

1. Wilson Chandler – New York Knicks (13.3 points, 6.5 rebounds): I have already revealed my relationship with the New York Knicks, but rest assured Chandler being No.1 on this list only has a little to do with that. Wilson has become the real deal. Wilson is Boris Diaw without the inconsistency issues (a versatile player able to play multiple positions). As he gets more and more used to D’Antoni’s system I expect his numbers to go up even more, and that has earned him the No.1 spot on this list.

- Greg Varkonyi Sportingo

Wilson Chandler, SF, Knicks: I wasn't a fan of Chandler's potential this season for one reason: fouls. That is the same reason I will be high on him entering next season, though, as his in-season improvement has been remarkable. Since averaging 5.3 fouls per 48 minutes in November, he has averaged no more than 4.5 since, a major reason he was able to average 37 minutes per game in March en route to his best month as a professional. He's only 22, and if he can improve his 3-point percentage, the sky is the limit. (If nothing else, Isiah Thomas sure nailed the NBA draft.) The main worry is that his fantasy buzz could take off in the meantime; New York is not the place to stay a secret.

Hmmm... Cosmic, care to back your overtly hostile opinion with some proof?

A few facts would seem appropriate to validate your negative thesis.

I believe I have given plenty of opinion regarding Chandler, Earl.

I'm not sure what else I can say to persuade anyone to understand he is merely an average bench player in the NBA.

Maybe I am wrong. If I am that's all fine and all the better for our Knicks if I am wrong. Yet this is what I see with Chandler. Average backup player.

Stupid and Lazy

"So when he is committing 3 turnovers in crucial late 4th quarter games. Deciding to jack deep 3s when we all know he is gifted at taking the ball to the rim. He isn't being stupid and lazy?"

Cosmic - let me break it to you gently, The sample instance you randomly described is not a FACT unless you can cite the exact game and the exact three turnovers in the fourth quarter game(s). Please state the opponent and date. Thank you.

Then I want you to gather just one quote from anyone associated with the NBA, DePaul University, the Knicks, the media, any blog, facebook, my space, The New York Post Opinion section or the Real Housewives of New Jersey who stated that Wilson Chandler was either stupid or lazy.

Just one

Uh, the previous game against the Orlando Magic. Not the win we just had. The game before that. Chandler committed 3 horrendous mistakes. Not just rookie but pretty much elementary school child mistakes that cost us the game.

Now, why do I have to quote a paper or housewife making an observation that Chandler has the IQ of a brick? Do your own observations of the game not give you the ability to see that he is hardly a smart player? Mine do.

And, again, maybe I am wrong, but what I see is a dumb player taking the easy way out far too often. Very Crawford-Like for comparison where you know the player has the skill to do better but absolutely REFUSES to do so which leads to far more inefficient games than it should.

Again, we are arguing over THE FOURTH BEST PLAYER ON A CRAPPY 30 WIN EC TEAM. If that statement doesn't put Chandler in his rightful place I don't know what else to say to you.

Dwight commited 6 turnovers in a must win game for Orlando. I guess he is about the ****test player on the Magic roster. The dumbest logic by far.

What? So Dwight, an absolute beast, the 3rd best player in the NBA, the NUMBER ONE UNAVAILABLE PLAYER, had a 6 TO game, and suddenly this means Chandler is a superstar?

Please don't tell me that's your point. I had to make it up, for I don't understand your point in your reply.

Chandler IS WHAT HE IS. The fourth best player on a SHITTY THIRTY WIN TEAM IN THE EC, and I'm here arguing with people that are telling me I am insane for not anointing him the best player to ever play the game.

I'm the one that should be using the emoticon.

lol............

....and, you all have a good night. I got to get some Z's. I have to work tomorrow. Bleh.

I don't really want to interject but...

Cos, you keep saying that Chandler is what he is, which is the 4th best player on a ****ty team. I agree with that, but I also realize that Chandler is only 21 and still has about 6 years before he ever enters his prime. I think for what he's shown us so far, he's got a pretty bright future. I'm not calling him a potential all-star or something, but I think he'll be a pretty solid player.

Correction: It's Not An Argument... It Is A Debate

"Again, we are arguing over THE FOURTH BEST PLAYER ON A CRAPPY 30 WIN EC TEAM. If that statement doesn't put Chandler in his rightful place I don't know what else to say to you"

Cosmic - you are entitled to a point of view. But let's be clear about one thing, arguing is a waste of time. I don't have any intention or care to argue with you or anyone.

All I requested was some validation for your point of view. Calling a player "stupid" or "lazy" is not an opinion, it is a timeworn technique used to label players who don't fit the acceptable profile. I thought those days were past. I was wrong.

Ramble Alert (SFX: Loud Alarm)

It is the same negative labeling that all Puerto Rican, Venezuelan, Dominican and Mexican ballplayers were victims of in the sixties as they were typecast as too "emotional", "aloof" or "hard to reach". No one considered they were in a foreign land, struggling with a second language, and battling prejudice that was many times as hostile to them as it was to superstars like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Billy Williams.

Florida Waitress to Twins first baseman Vic Power: "we don't serve Negroes here"

Power (from Cuba): "that's okay, I don't eat them"

It reminds me of the labelling of Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl RB Duane Thomas as "lazy", "insolent", "rebellious" and worse. The press had a field day because Thomas refused to conform to the acceptable behavior for the humble and grateful servant. He simply stopped talking to the press.

Let's jump in The Way Back Machine and go to the 1971 Super Bowl post game, and the winners locker room...

Tom Brookshier: "Duane, uh, you do things with speed, but you never really hurry a lot like the great Jim Brown, uh, you never hurry into a hole. You take your time, make a spin, yet you still outrun people. Are you that fast? Are you quick, would you say?"

Thomas: "Evidently,"

Point being. Wilson Chandler does not deserve the label as "stupid" or "lazy" any more than Roberto Clemente deserved the negative reports when he was young. Clemente was labelled as a complainer, malcontent, lazy (substitute graceful) and arrogant (substitute intelligent/ thoughtful) and stupid (insert US beat writers using mocking words for broken English here)

It is not cool

Alllanfan - who you gunna believe... Me or yo' lyin' eyes?

Besides, how does the date he was drafted by Isiah Thomas relate to the date when I became his Campaign Manager?

Palladin - thank you.

Add another 21 point game to The Mayor's consistency metrics.

I've said this a few times but it is VERY apparent that Wilson has worked with Allah Houston on his J. They have nearly the same exact form. When Wilson started here--his jumper was way off and relied more on his athletic ability. Now he may not use his athletic ability enough and has relied more on the jumper. He has developed into a 6-8 shooting guard.

Wilson's form looks really good with his upper body. He needs to fix the balance in his legs. He oftentimes will kick his legs out and not shoot straight up and down. He fixes that and he will have a consistent jumper

Bippity - nice observations on jump shot fundamentals. I would offer that beyond the mechanical things, how The Mayor decides to invest his time this Summer could be a critical decision for his career.

He can either ask Greg Brittenham for a customized workout plan, call Tim Grover, Billy Blanks and get a copy of the gym key to Greenburgh on the down low...

... or hang out in Chicago with da fellas and hit the malls.

I vote for the former.
