He never once praised tham at all. A little, "good effort AJ" would have been nice.

All he could talk about was missed foul shots, turnovers, missed opportunities.

In the game he was all over Thabeet for not fouling Jackson on a 3OT forcing dunk, even though that would have fouled him out.

I don't know if you would see that from coaches in a UNC Duke matchup, or Kansas Texas.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Those are different coaches with different approaches. In Calhoun's time he has been as successful as any of these guys, and like I said, trust me, his guys love him. On the outside, he's mean Mr. Calhoun, but trust me these players will get plenty of praise after this game and aren't as sensitive to it as you are.

I'll buy that.

If his players love him, hey good for him.

If I was in AJ's seat, I'd be crazy pissed hearing those remarks. I've seen him shrink in a lot of games, and he really looked like a man last night, err this morning.

Really? I always thought AJ was our most mentally tough player. If anyone it's been Adrien and Thabeet that have disappeared under the big lights. To me AJ has always been a guy that stepped up.

I do agree however that it takes a certain type of player to play for Calhoun. You can't be mentally soft or feel entitled in anyway or you won't survive. I think his reputation is worse than actuality. He's actually pretty low key. He praises people when they do well. He is sarcastic as heck when you don't do what he says. But he's incredibly fair. He does however normally have at least one whipping boy. The guy he just harps on for four years. It's funny though, those guys tend to like him the most.

Just watching some clips of the game again...

Why doesn't Thabeet post up? If you think about Warrick who was built similar, but about 8 inches shorter, he wanted and got the ball every time down.

Most trips down Thabeet isn't even looking for it.

You watch a game with Hill, or Brackins, or Jordan and they run the offense at least partially through the post. With Thabeet its like they're trying to pretend he's not there.

Seemed like he had no trouble scoring whenever they did get it to him. Really strange.

I think it's a combination of things. He doesn't have the killer instinct on the offensive side of the ball. Plus I don't think the guards have the ultimate trust in him. Some games he gets the ball inches from the basket 4 or 5 times in a row and gets stripped or doesn't finish. I think the guards lose confidence and he stops working because he isn't getting the ball. The final thing is that our guards are horrible at feeding the post.

Flynn was really impressive. I hope he does well in the league. I think he can be an Earl Watson type player.
