Anyone notice that David Lee is developing a drop step into a baby hook shot?

I hadn't actually. I know he's tried some more conventional post ups but they seem sloppy so I didn't seek to label them as anything more than that: Sloppy.

What I had noticed about Lee is he is just HORRENDOUS on defense. I always knew he was bad but this has grown to ridiculous proportions: He just stands there when guards cut into the lane. If he had any reaction time at all he could leap and swat at their shot. Yet, he doesn't. He sits there in cement and watches the play unfold.

Maybe he is too intent on boxing out his man... too geeked up for the rebound.

I think he is and that's my point on that... (and you meant too intent on NOT boxing out right?). To some degree Lee's rebounding prowess reminds me of Fortson's in that Fortson would just leave his man and even body block his own teammates out of the way to grab a board.

So fixated on the ball in the air that nothing else matters.

It will lead to good rebounding - BUT - will also lead to numerous mistakes that cost your team.

Now, is Lee a good rebounder and not just a gimmick? Of course he is. Yet, as I pointed out, many come from that style of play. He leaves his man early - even if he's not the one that will be the primary rebounder - and it leads to O-Boards for the opposing team.

He needs to learn the flight of the ball and whether or not he has a LEGIT shot at it by leaving his man - or - if it's going to rim out deep and suddenly he's all alone under the rim and it's bouncing right to the guy he left.

Will he learn that? I dunno. Some guys are just born with that: DENNIS RODMAN.

I meant he wasn't moving over to defend the penetrating guard because that would leave his guy open for an easy rebound/putback. He stayed at home. Which helps if you want to get the board. But is dumb when you don't have a shotblocker behind you.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

If you're building around Lee as your starting PF of the future, you need better defense on the perimeter. Lee's weaknesses would've been masked on some of Larry's DET teams. They had the long arms of prince and ballhawking guards to prevent forays to the hoop, and they had Wallace back there to erase their mistakes. Lee would've blended right in.

Oh... yeah now I see what you are saying.

Actually, No, I think Lee is just that clueless on defense. He sees the guard come down the lane he just kinda sits there and stares at him then stares at him taking the shot then stares at the ball go into the hoop.

That's just well..

What did we learn from the Isiah era? You don't acquire a player, pencil him in as a starter of the future, then say to yourself you need to find someone that can hid his weaknesses. You do that and you will fail at building a winning team.

So, unless Lee were to improve, and quite honestly I never see the defensive side improving, you either use him in trade to acquire assets for the future (and using Lee to move Curry is the same thing really given the cap situation).... OR... you find a way to move that player to the BENCH where he would belong and be useful on a winning team.

Given what Lee will command contract wise - he would be vastly overpaid as a reserve - so I fully understand those fans who have said time and again we might be better off trading him. Just make sure he's used to move Curry and get something decent back. If it's used to move Jeffries you better get a good pick back as well.

So, we've covered Chandler, Lee, and even Nate in the other thread. And even Duhon in his thread. Is there anyone else worth discussing on this roster? Unfortunately NOT.

So, have a happy new year, even though I hate these commercial holidays.

I made a thread a while back on Wilson......so 5 pages into this thread I will state what I said back in my old thread.....

Chandler doesn't have it. He has the skills but as far as that swagger that separates him from being an all-star? He doesn't have it.

Can he develop the confidense that Al Harrington and Nate have? I dunno......its not about his demeanor, btw. He just doesn't have that gleam in his eye......swagger. Joe Johnson, Granger and your favorite cool and collective player have that swagger.

He needs Swagger!

Earl, you asked me what I saw, I said what I saw.

If you want to discount everything he does wrong, and tell me I'm making things up, then that's your choice.

I'm not the only one in the thread who was concerned with his play the last six odd games, hence why this thread was born, you took my observations to task, I clarified them, you dismiss them anyway. That's just what you do though so no big deal.

TMS: Honestly, get over the Crawful thing already, it's tiresome, he's a bum, was always a bum, and sure as hell is nobodies savior. Jeez, you call me obsessed? Your last three posts to me just the past day bring the guy up. Keep it up if that pleases you this is my last reply on that trash you call a good player and lament trading.

i disagree.

& i also think u need to pipe down with your constant digs at Donnie Walsh... it's getting tiresome as well... while we're at it, i think u need to quiet down on the Bring Back Marbury posts as well... no one wants that bum around here... & i can't believe u actually think the Knicks will win a championship this year... get over it already, jeez.

[Edited by - TMS on 12-31-2008 10:12 AM]

Huh? how can you not think we're winning a championship this year without Crawful around? he's a bum i tell you! A BUM! just losing him means we're destined to win it all this season, just watch! stop pining for him to return because he stinks! as long as we have Nate Robinson & Al Harrington shooting efficiently at 4 for 19 every other night we'll be just fine without Crawful... that BUM! I HATE HIM I TELL YOU! HATE HATE HATE!!!

i disagree... i think you are the one who is being delusional.

yes, he also says he thinks Lebron stinks & that Anthony Roberson should be signed to the full MLE after this season... here's proof:

Lebron's garbage, but only slightly better than Crawful. Did I ever mention to you how much I can't stand Crawful? He's a BUM! Anyway, I think the Knicks oughtta re-sign Roberson to a full MLE contract after this season, he's a keeper. He's so much better than Crawful, that BUM!!!

You get off on trolling me TMS?

Honestly...what gives? If you have a point...try spilling it...instead of doing this ridiculous dance.

'cause not for nothing you come off as a fool doing whatever this is.

Oh, 4949, unless you're part of this charade whatever it's point is, read back, he's uh, playing that cute little game of make believe quotes.

*rolls eyes*

Seriously, what's up with this childish behavior man? Can't just have a legit conversation about the team we both love to watch? You that upset about a few observations I made on the team that you've been driven to acting insane?

Whatever it is I'm not into it. Seems kinda silly and pointless to me and has pretty much trashed this discussion about Chandler. Congrats.

No, I don't really, because you've never clarified what in my responses ever bothered you, ever, instead resorting to these indecipherable bizarre responses.

I'm pretty much done with it anyway because you and Earl have succeeded in destroying this thread over whatever the hell it is you two have against.... what I view as simple opinions and observations on Wilson Chandler.

So, no, I don't get it.

actually i have clarified what bothers me about you but you refuse to get it... you twist every single word i say into some diatribe about how i want Jamal back & i think he's the savior to all our ills when i've told u time & time again i was happy we made that trade... u just can't get it into your thick skull that people can actually disagree with your hatred for this man without necessarily wishing here were still here... u ask me time & time again how i'm able to differentiate 1 concept from the other, but as hard as that might be to fathom to you, it is indeed possible to see things that way.

now if u want to stop twisting my words everytime this topic comes up, i'd be happy to carry on a civil & intelligent conversation with you... that's what i've been trying to do for the past few weeks but you never fail to miss the point & instead fall back on your copout reply that i long for Jamal's return... if u wanna keep doing that then expect more of these types of responses from me in return.

Actually, you've must have missed the post where I talked about that stuff.

You either missed it or glossed over it and I really care not to go over it yet again for what would be at least a third time.

It's no big deal, but, this crap where you follow me around now and trash threads over it is just unneeded. I told you I wasn't talking about Jamal anymore but you've succeeded in brining it up now 4 times in one day.

What's so hard to just move on when a disagreement reaches a stalemate?

If you're going to threaten more insane responses looking to trash anything I have to say and subsequently ruin threads doing it then I guess I just have to cease an attempts to talk hoops with you. Not that it seems to matter because you keep replying to my posts and bringing it up.

There's nothing personal here, yet you've tried to make it personal, which just makes it more strange to me.

No biggie, TMS, but, this has grown annoying, and I'm fairly certain those around us are also annoyed by it.

So I say this with truth: Just drop it and stop it. It solves absolutely nothing.

Eny, you are one of my favs but you also made a ridiculous post about another young player playing 3 minutes and went on how much talent and stardom you saw in him after he scored 0 points, 0 rebounds and 0 assists. To each their own I guess. If that is stardom I'll take what Chandler has everyday and twice on Thursday.

That's got to be the thread where I chimed in with concern that Chandler was beginning to show signs of too much 1-1 play... and deep shot chucking at that.

Can you find the thread? Just curious to see what I typed in that one versus the observations I have of him the past day or two.

It was fairly early in the season I think. November most certainly.
