Yeahhhhh... a win is a win, come tomorrow, but being it's still tonight (well, it's actually tomorrow, but I'll ignore that)
How the FUCK does this team let a 30 point lead dwindle to 7? With a chance for it to drop to 5 or 4 MULTIPLE times?
What happened to DO what GOT you the LEAD?
Why did we go 1-1, like Isiah's Knicks, from about 5 minutes left in the 3rd until the game ended?
Thank GOD we had enough of a lead to allow for that to WORK - in being - eventually - enough of the 1-1 standstill offense would hit enough shots to hold on?
That is NOT what we want to do. You could see Mike was PISSED at this. Yet, they kept going out and doing it.
These are pros. I don't want to hear that they were TIRED cause if they were then this is going nowhere.
Cos, chillll...
I'm scared to read the cons...
mike d said this is a work in progress, and is right that teams that go up big 'it's only human,' especially for teams like the knicks who have been cellar dwellers for so long, to give it up. he said it's "something to work on."
we did get the lead...and win.
hello we're 6-3, last year we won 23 games...we've already won over 25% of the games we won last season, and i'm pretty sure 25% of the season has not passed.
we ain't gonna be world beaters, but the team is really showing something different than the past, no?
this is not isiah's team, but the players that remain are still here. the progress is light years ahead of what most of us thought, even at this point.
gotta go and have fun now...so i'll just leave it at that...
Yeah, I know, I was just infuriated to see "Isiah's idiot 1-1 ballhogging standaround chucker and-1 Knicks" show up for the final 17 minutes of the game and nearly blow the lead to one of the worst teams in the entire history of the league.
Ok, maybe a bit melodramatic, but if we faced any other number of teams in the same scenerio they likely convert the final few shots the Blunder missed - and we lose the game.
What this does to me is it signals that although the team is clearly playing better - there is still that pesky and well known ceiling for this roster always standing in our way. Playing their minds out this is still at best a .500 team. Loaded with "talent", playing "well", it has some thinking once again that it's a core we can build around and "we just need a shotblocker to help Zach's lack of defense" or "we just need to upgrade the SF" and...then what? What again? "Playoff bound, baby! Go KNICKS!"
Well, it's false hope, and last night's collapse absolutely dictated that.
So, despite 6-3, despite holding on to the game, it's still a stark reminder that no matter what transpires this is NOT a core you build a solid winning team on.
I hope nobody is blinded by 6-3 to think otherwise. Pretty cushy schedule up until now. Another team, the Mavs, have been atrocious and beating them won't be like beating the 2 year ago Mavs. From here it gets tougher and I think reality will set in.
8-8 end of November I gather and that's an epic turnaround but what I don't see it as something to BUILD upon. I think it's the peak this roster holds.
To me it's back to wondering what can be done and when to build an ACTUAL contending team - not a PRETENDING team that finally, admittedly, seems to bury teams they should for a change. Just make no mistake, against bonafide contenders, we're toast. Dallas might not have it in them to show us as much but Boston will floor us.
Short term "victory" being 6-3 but long term reality knowing they will not be a 51-31 team come the end of the season. Never was, never will, and no Camby, Sean Williams, Bellineli, Al Harrington, or 09 draft pick is going to change that.
