Hello, My Name Is...

People are missing the solid guard play from Crawford (29 pts/4 reb/4 asst 4 turnovers) , Nate (13 pts/3 reb/7 asst 0 turnovers) and Duhon (9 pts/3 reb/ 3 asst 2 turnovers) - who complimented one other while getting acquainted with the various shiftlines that D'Antoni ran.

14 assists against 7 turnovers (which ain't bad) can be improved upon

seriously, that shoulda been what we were gonna talk about, but no once again Marbury proves to be the topic that detracts from anything positive behind a Knicks' victory
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

were both in the minority cause that was ridiculous. The entire B-ball nation knows marbury is our most talented player...Had we loss these haters would still be cheering. Im no big fan of his neither, but having a 21 million dollar man sitting on the bench is spiteful. That wasn't a message, that was a order from someone

i woulda been happy if we won or lost, & i'm not a hater... it's about building an identity for the future... IMO Marbs has no place in that future vision therefore there's no point in having him play... & i don't buy for a second that was an order from someone to have Marbury get a DNP... that was Mike D'Antoni's decision plain & simple... he doesn't see Marbs in the Knicks' future plans at the G position... he's going w/the guys he feels fit into his future plans at the G position... this is really pretty simple, not sure why everyone's trying to take apart & analyze Mike D's motives behind this one as if there was some kinda sinister plot to ruin Marbury's reputation & career at work here.

TMS.....Dude what is steph doing that promotes a benching, everyone has a clean slate means he should be playing reguardless of what. You and I both know whats really going on, it aint about the future with steph, so what, it's about winning games now and at the same time evaluating there roster. It's become clear this is a personal issue, you never bench your most talented player because you want to evaluate yor roster during the season, especially in a contract year. Anyone who wants to sit here and believe that move was base on basketball politics is blind a naive.

Yeah, Marbury did not play, and our guys were flat out exhausted in that 4th quarter and it nearly cost us the game. I'm not so sure we can prosper with a 9 man rotation. We played 10 and after the game Mike said that's too many and he'd cut it down to 8 or 9.

If you're going to do that then be prepared for numerous teams steamrolling us in the 4th Q as a broken down Miami team went for 40 on us in the 4th.

Is Marbury the answer? Of course not but he should play before Mardy who is a disaster - OR - the guy should be waived.

We don't need to start another fiasco here and while Marbury HAS been the good soldier he hasn't been rewarded for doing so and that means he will eventually go off about it - and rightfully so.

Part ways before it gets to that. Enough with Walsh and his stupid I don't do buyouts crap. 22M of Marbury gets you 22M of garbage that's signed until 2013. Just bite the bullet and waive the guy OR play him.

Cosmic, I disagree fully. First off, being fatigued in the first pre season game should hardly be an issue. These guys should be conditioned enough, in my mind, to be playing 48 minutes a game. It's called being a professional athlete. There's no excuse for the defensive letdown at the end of the game.

Secondly, if anything, Mardy Collins needed to play more ti disrupt DeQuean Cook and/or Mario Chalmers from their offensive rhythm. They are NBA newbies and they were torching us. There's no way Marbury would have stopped them. Collins IS the good enough defensive player to do it.

Also, I do agree we had a couple of stupid offensive possesions at the end, but only a couple. Plus Jamal missed some free throws, just as Steph would have missed free throws.

I said it once and I'm saying it again. Steph is out of the circle!

Marbury is an able body. He's worlds better than Mardy Collins. Our team fell apart due to exhaustion and could have used an able body out there.

So you either play Marbury or you waive him. This benching crap will lead to nothing but problems for us. That's one thing we can all count on.

He is not Anthony Roberson who will get the minutes given to him and like it so don't treat him like that.

Waive him.

I am not sure I understand why it has to be either playing him or waiving him? So what is wrong with benching him? I think this is the type of attitude that makes complete Divas out of these players. Who play who doesnt play is a coach's decision not Mike Berman's. Who cares what the f###ing press says? He gets paid to stay in shape and come ready to play and yes if the coach decide not to play him he needs to accept that and continue showing up. If he feels "humiliated" by a DNP he can eat his contract and walk.
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Not Really

knicks1248 - read my lips. it's not about individual talent anymore. The championship Knicks were not the most talented but they performed like a single cell organism.

Give me the guy with the selfless personality any day of the week
Stop this thing about "individual talent". Marbury is BETTER (better means he is better for the team, not just that he has more "talent") than any other PG we have. And we dont have any PG to develop as a solid starter for the future. Duhon?? Collins??? Nate is not even a PG. But, like I said before, beyond than that, what worries me is that the way this situation has been handled has been almost the typical Isiah like non-sense.

DarkKnicks - not so fast mmy passionate orange and blue brothaman. Matbury was unanimously voted off the island last season at game 5 and D'Antoni understood that negative residue would never enhance team-building moving forward.

What exactly about Marbury's individual career experience translates into your theory that he is "better" for this new Knicks Edition?

Can you please point out one example of a team that Marbury has made "better" in terms of cohesiveness?

This is not about stats. It's about comraderie and togetherness.

Earl, I thought it was "Just Win Baby"? Now we are playing for amorphous ideals which are unlikely to happen anyway as this team is certainly going to look very different very soon?

Why, I never thought I'd see the day...

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

We would not have reached the playoffs in 2004 without Marbury.
Phoenix would have not reach the playoffs in 2003 without Marbury.
The Wolves would have not reach the playoffs without Marbury.
And to make my point clearer, the Nets would not have won 26 games without Marbury. They would have won like 10.
You can check our record with and without Marbury to see what I mean.

It does not mean Marbury is awesome, because my only point is:
The Nets became a force in the East not because Marbury was not there, but because Kidd went there.
Phoenix did not win 60 games just because he was traded, but because Nash was the one coming, who is the better player.

Its not about stats. I really feel Marbury makes our TERRIBLE team better, because he is easily the best PG we have. Thats it, my friend. We are sooo bad that I cant accept Marbury is not even on the court because D'Antoni is supposedly looking for the future, when the future is called Duhon, Collins or Nate.

Au Revoir

DarkKnicks - I think you are missing the fundamental point. You can rave about Marbury's past or his abilities all you want, the fact remains - the decision on Marbury was made by Donnie Walsh the moment Chris Duhon signed a piece of paper with 2 Penn Plaza on the masthead.

Marbury, no matter the obligatory motions he went through in training camp or the pre season, was never going to be a part of this team in any substantive manner.

Debating the D'Antoni tactics, the press opinion or the alternative use of minutes at guard is moot.

Marbury is history.

And what's the problem with being terrible and playing younger, team players instead of older, egotistical douchebag players? We are terrible with or without Marbury. If we're going to lose, I'd rather see other players out there. Marbury has no future on this team or even in the league.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Part 2

As Howard Beck of the NYT astutely illustrates, the fact Marbury does not have an agent, and represents himslf make any negotiation (or assessment) problemmatic.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate"

Stalemate or Checkmate?

Marbury has no agent? He must still think he's a max contract player who'll get the same with or without an agent.

Maybe I just underestimate what a great knack he has for bidniff. Afterall, he is shrewd enough to sue his bankrupt bidniff partners.

Zero Agent

"Money matters aside, Marbury needs representation for some practical reasons, said several agents, speaking anonymously because Marbury is not their client. The most basic reason is this: Teams that want to sign Marbury have no one to call to gauge his interest.

A good agent would know which teams need a veteran point guard and what they are willing to pay. With the Knicks’ permission, the agent could solicit tentative offers before negotiating a buyout — or even attempt to broker a trade.

Perhaps most critically, an agent could convince Marbury that accepting less money now is in his best interest because he can recoup the loss next summer as a free agent. In general, players are poor judges of their value, sometimes overestimating and sometimes underestimating it. Two agents invoked the adage that a man who represents himself has a fool for a client.

“He’s trying to answer all the questions for himself, and he has no sounding board,” a West Coast-based agent said."

I agree, I care about the future as much as the present. Why should we look foward to blow outs with one of your best players is in st. cloths. Evaluating a winning atmosphere instead of talent, we have been patient for 6 years with this non sense circus act. Get some stabilty in your rotation and balance. I believe MD is a good coach, but this steph things is ridiculous

knicks1248 - change is never easy. Change makes people uncomfortable and never goes as expected. Change is weird and unncomfortable.

Change paints the past more glamourous than it actually was. Change hurts sometimes.

Change makes some people angry and others afraid of what tomorrow will bring.

Change is inevitable. Marbury left last season after the fifth game and only returned in body, not spirit. I don't care how hard he worked out in the off season. He gets PAID to work out in the off season. Walsh and D'Antoni have made the decision that in order for the Knicks to move two steps forward they need to take one step back - and away from Marbury.

I like the way Chris Duhon dribbles with his head up, the way Nate plays without fear, the way David Lee is a patented double-double, the way Zach and Crawford hoist - and of course I dig da hell outta The Mayor

Now that's Change We Can Beleive In

Friend: Marbury's 'Pride Is Hurt'

Nov 02, 2008 10:30 AM EST

A longtime friend of New York's Stephon Marbury says that the point guard's pride has been shattered by his bench role with the team.

"His pride is hurt," says Rob Johnson, a Queens basketball consultant and friend of Marbury.

"I've known Steph since he was 10 years old and I can tell he's really hurt by this. He won't cause problems. He wants to get on with his business and hopefully play for another team next year. They should just let him go."

Marbury's family is proud of the way he has handled the difficult situation.

"Stephon has been so professional with this whole thing," says Moses Marbury, Stephon's younger brother. "I'm so proud of him, the way he's handling it, being smooth about it. He isn't saying the things that the Stephon of old would have said."

I love how Walsh was interviewed last night and said he hadn't followed the Marbury/Mike D situation at all and talked to neither of them about it yet but said he'd get on that. Then said not to expect any answer anytime soon.

That's just retarded.

Trade Value: ZERO, unless you value 22M of **** coming back on long term deals. You know, more Zacks, Crawfuls, and McCurrys.

Value of Playing him: A Wash. He's good but has to dominate and that pisses off his teammates.

That leaves one answer: WAIVE HIM ALREADY GODDAMNIT!

Don't Look Back

Cosmic - patience. Walsh and D'Anntoni know the new Knicks have already started playing without the training wheels. They may fall over a few times but it will be a beautiful thing to see how the players adapt to the collective opportunity to build a cohesive team on the floor.

The only way that happens is by learning trust and that takes months if not years.

The Celtics fast break was not built in a day.

Btw, Thanks for the video streams
