The thing is that no one really knows how this will play out. It's never good when you hurt your back, but it doesn't seem like he's done any damage needing surgery. Like he said, he's gonna have to take measures to deal with this so that he doesn't aggravate it again. Strengthening his spinal erectors and stomach muscles to develop more core stability and strength. Possibly getting chiropractic treatment regularly.
In any event there's no reason to rush him. I'd be very, very patient with him and let him come along at his own pace. When he's 100% then we can look to work him in.
From what I read the past few days, it now appears to be a chronic issue.
"It is a problem that my back is like this, so I will have to do exercises every day and be conscious that I have this type of back," Gallinari said. "I have to work on my muscles every day." That's too bad, I suspect that he has had this condition for sometime. I will take him at his word that he was unaware of it before July. It looks like his Milan team doctors failed him. What he said is more than troubling. I have serious doubts that he will be capable of holding up his back at a 82 game pace while playing at a high level. I am not sure if rest would be sufficent for a problem that he has. Hell people normally get worker's comp for these type of issues or retire. I would be interested in Q Rich's opinion on Gallinari's back and how the guy should approach playing with his back.
