"Renaldo really had no role after we drafted Gallinari, and with the emergence of Wilson Chandler his minutes would be nonexistent," D'Antoni told The Associated Press. "So it really wasn't fair to him to keep him in a spot that he wouldn't play and also gives us an opportunity to clear up a roster spot and move on."

who would trade a first for Balkman when you can get a comparable talent in the 2nd of any years draft?

see this year: Joey Dorsey

it's true there are some nice sleepers to be found in the 2nd round... but more often than not they are not players that make any sort of appreciable impact at the NBA level... i dunno if Balk was ever gonna make an impact either but i woulda been willing to give him more of a look to find out, especially in an uptempo system where he seems like a perfect & logical fit to excel in... too late now so we'll just have to hope for the best but i gotta see some more moves that fall in line w/this one for this trade to make much sense to me.

No one seems to want to raise the possibility that like Marbs, the rest of the team thought he was a disruption.

maybe... but unlike Marbs, he's not making $22 mil.

i guess Mike D prefers seeing Jefferies getting minutes over Balkman... that in itself boggles my mind to no end... i seriously hope he's right.

that, and I'd like to see D'Antoni promise he won't play Lee & Chandler at the 4&5 for long stretches. in fact, I guarntee we'll see Chandler probably play some 5.

So basically he was traded for Roberson. Mike D' you and your no defense chucker can suck it big time, pal.

The only place I've ever heard a negative word about Balkman's work habits, partying, or that he may have been a disruption is on this forum. Where does this come from or is it all just speculation?

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

I'm sure the fact that Jeffries has a terrible contract for the skills he possesses has nothing to do with him not being moved.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

u sorta missed the sarcasm in my post... the quote from Walsh seems to suggest they deemed that Balk would have no role on this team after they drafted Gallo, as if that meant Jefferies would see minutes over him for some inexplicable reason.

How do we know what they think of Jared? He wasn't even mentioned. Clearly they feel strongly about Chan and Gallo. Since Jared shoots it about as bad as Balk, what would make anyone think they really had a good feeling about him? He could be next for all we know.

I loved Balks energy, but let's be honest, he was going to be a liability on offense. We know Mike is looking for more shooting out on the floor at all times, so he was going to have to show that he could do that in order to stick.

Balkman partied all the time, multiple people have said it within the organization, announcers etc. off the record.

He hasn't improved his game in two offseasons, his commitment to getting better and taking his job serious was the problem.

He was always a second round pick with a first round motor. He might have actually been picked 40 plus in the draft if isiah never took them.

Why can't people just accept the fact that sometimes people know things that aren't published, such as eddy curry taking supplements that sped up his heart to get skinny for his contract year? Has eddy ever been close to the weight in his tenure here, no.

If Isiah didn't try to harrass Saunders would anyone have known Marbury ****ed an intern, that his relatives were on the pay role, etc. Just accept what people say sometimes, god only knows what marbury had on isiah.

Forget about Balkman's partying or not partying. It's irrelevant. We're talking about a one-dimensional fairly mediocre bench player. We got a second rounder for him, so what? In all honesty, he should've been drafted in the second round anyway. It's a wash of a move, but freed up a roster spot. Such a minor move as this doesn't deserve this much attention.

P.S.: Trevor Ariza >>>>>>> Renaldo Balkman.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I'm not saying that Balkman was a disruption. I'm just raising one of about 75 possibilities that I've raised about the trade. All possibilities(including Walsh and D'Antoni being idiots) have an equal chance of being true. We just choose to pick the one that sets our agenda and deem that that one is true.

I don't know what 23 win team you were watching but I guess I'm just not understanding what you are expecting to get for Balkman. We got a 2nd round pick and roster flexibility. This is equally as important as using him as a possible throw in, in a future trade. Neither approach is right or wrong. That's why you have to wait and see. Hopefully this felixibility is used to help us down the line. But in the meantime to get all up in an uproar over a guy that has no role on this roster and had no role in a 23 win season is amazing to me. That's all I can say. Amazing.
I just hope that people will like me
