Dunleavy was at the Knicks summer league game- almost certainly he was scouting Gallo, Chandler, Balk or Collins.

was he there only at that game? or was he there the whole day? b/c there were alot of gm's at the knicks summerleague game.

Alan Hahn indicated that Dunleavy left directly after the Knicks game. Check the Notes & quotes section here:

Zach is a better scorer and rebounder than Brand

look up their career stats sometime... he's not a better scorer & rebounder than Elton Brand... & Sheed, Okafor & Smith do something he doesn't do, which is provide a defensive presence in the paint.

Either way, Zach's value, even at an all-time low for most of you, is more than an expiring contract and a second rounder. At least make it a first

the way i understand it, there isn't even an expiring involved in the deal... Clips are simply absorbing Camby's contract for a future 2nd round pick... it gives the Nuggets instant cap relief & they don't have to take back even an expiring contract in return... it makes sense for the Clippers to do this type of trade... this isn't quite the same as the rumored Zach deal.

After losing Elton Brand to Philadelphia, the Clippers called the Knicks seeking a deal to acquire Zach Randolph.
Sports Illustrated reports that the Knicks are unwilling to trade the offensively gifted Randolph for what would amount to a salary dump of the final three years of his contract. The Clippers' proposal would not provide comparable return on talent.

The thinking could be that new head coach Mike D'Antoni will rejuvenate the Knicks while elevating Randolph's game and therefore his trade value.

The Clippers can also pursue Josh Smith and Emeka Okafor to fill their vacant power forward slot, but both are restricted free-agents whose respective teams can match any offer.

This is the original deal that Dunleavy offered for Randolph. Walsh wanted back expiring contracts. Dunleavy threw in Cuttino and DeAndre Jordan. Walsh wanted Gordon, I am not sure if he wanted Cuttino. This story was reported in LA as well. From my understanding Walsh just kept asking for more.

that sounds like a whole lotta speculating to me... but who knows... like i said, i'm waiting to hear the Clips or Knicks speak on that one before i lend any credence to it.

Don't hold your breath. GMs usually never talk about potential trades especially those that do not materialize. I mean that would bad business anyway. "To all the fans, we are discussing a trade to get rid of Z-Bo." .... "Damn, it didn't happen."

what are u talking about? GM's dispell rumors like this all the time when they're not true.

And I will say this.

I think this Denver trade is being viewed as a monetary issue because the Nuggets took nothing back in return, but maybe they just wanted that trade exception so they could use it in a trade instead of a player? I really do think theres a chance Zach could land in Denver, I'm not saying it's a good chance, but I believe there is a chance. When you look at that team, it's built to win and while all of us here believe Zach does not help you win, I've seen GM's take chances on knuckleheads before. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

But why wouldn't Denver then pursue Okafor or Smith in possible S&T.

why wouldn't the Clippers do the same for that matter? does anyone here think an NBA franchise would prefer Zach over names like Okafor, Smith, Camby, Marion? this is why i find that whole rumor so hard to believe... i may be totally off on this one but i have to think Walsh isn't THAT stupid. (i hope to God it's not true anyways)

I actually think Dunleavy thought it would be a win win situation for both clubs. He knows the Knicks want to get rid of Randolph's contract and he just got sucker punch with the Brand stuff. Has knowledge of the player, seen him play in the western conference. I am not that shock because I remember Donnie giving props to acquiring Z-Bo last year, also when he was hired. Still didn't understand why come it didn't work out. Maybe he views Z-Bo as a talented player who has a huge contract. Got greedy and it backfired.

maybe... anything is possible, but i can't imagine why Donnie would pass up a deal to unload Zach w/o giving up any assets when there were already substantiated rumors that the Knicks were in talks w/the Sixers' GM about trading down in the draft to get rid of his contract... it doesn't make any sense to me how Zach's value could have risen so much in the mind of Donnie Walsh in the span of a few weeks.

"It's not a checkers move," he said. "It's a chess move. Chess is a tougher game to understand. You've got to wait longer to see the results of the move."

everyone is so quick to criticize teams for salary dump type trades but IMO it takes a lot of foresight & balls to make these types of moves because it involves a broader, long range vision than always seeking the instant gratification of trades... u have to assess the future of your franchise & what you can realistically achieve w/the roster you have... if u don't see much of a future, you need to start thinking about dumping guys that add nothing to your longrange vision... hopefully Walsh has the foresight to do just that.
