Everyone's got an opinion, I guess, but not being a basketball expert, I'm willing to wait and see what the kid can do. If this is the guy D'Antoni wanted, than I'd say it's a good choice, in context.

When our pick came up, I was thinking, "no more combo guards. We already have 12 of them. No Lopez because I don't trust Pac-10 centers and have seen enough of his game not to be excited. I was hoping for Alexander. NOw they picked Gallinari. The pick makes sense. I have no complaints with the logic of the pick, and having not seen anything other than highlight films of him, it is impossible for me to say whether it is the right pick or not. I will simply wait and see.
I just hope that people will like me

Rod Thorn was interviewed by Francessa. When asked about Gallinari, he said
1) He handles the ball well.
2) Good outside shot
3) Tough kid.
4) Played in a good Italian league and dominated. He was the best player in Italy.

did he sound like he wanted to draft him or was he just asked a question?

He tried to trade with Memphis to get him ahead of the Knicks. Had Love gone at 4 instead of Westbrook, Gallinari would probably be a Net right now... and people would be whining about how we got snaked out of our guy...

Rod Thorn is a true professional. He wouldn't say anything bad about any player in an interview. I also seriously doubt that they had any intention of trading up for Gallinari. If they really did want to move up, they certainly had the pieces to get a deal done.

Not once Love fell to 5 and Memphis had the deal in place to get Mayo.

13 is Mark Jackson's number. Give it to Galinari --> Rookie of the Year!

The number 6 would match his position in the first round

44 would purge the memory of Keith Van Horn and John Wallace

5 would bring back fond thoughts of Tim Thomas

55 could be a sentimental tribute to both Kiki Vandeweghe and Louis Orr

23 would be a fitting tribute to Brian Quinnet

He should a crazy number like 74 or 000.

Francessa asked him how he felt about DG. He didn't say anything about trading up, but he wouldn't. He did sound sincere, but as islesfan said, he's a pro and he's been dealing with the media for a long time. I posted those points because they are very consistent with what others have been saying about DG. So, while we haven't seen him play, we're getting a pretty good idea of his strengths and weaknesses.

Anji, read the article that Phil linked to. His birthday is 8/8/88. He also wore 8 in Italy.

swinging for the fences...trading a 20ppg and fan favorite in rj for yi...

and if that doesn't work out, you just saved yourself 1 year at $10+ mil...

How is that swinging for the fences if you just described it as having a safe aspect to it if it fails?

b/c they clearly traded an establish 20ppg score for a question mark...the cap space is just a footnote to it right now.

[Edited by - djsunyc on 06-27-2008 11:58 AM]

I see that, but it is the cap space is what makes it not nearly as risky as "swinging for the fences." Trading for Zach Randolph is swinging for the fences. Because when you miss, you struck out and it's over. Trading for Yi is more like trying for a big pass play on 2nd and 1 while knowing that you still have 3rd down to get the past the first down marker.

trading for Zach is like swinging for the fences while you're in the batter's box... you have zero realistic shot of hitting the ball, u just take the swing & make the fans sitting behind you think you have a chance of hitting one out when you actually step up to the plate.

KVH wore #2 here. I thought he was decent as a Knick.

-- the preceding post was brought to you by the letter K and the number 22.
