At this rate the Mets are only going to get to play 3 extra games if they do back in. What's the point?
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Not true. If they get in -- anything can happen.

It's like a weird joke that the baseball gods are playing on the Mets. When we hit well, we pitch terribly and vice versa. This is one of the worst baseball seasons I've ever been through.

unreal...BUT i implore mets fans...there's still a good chance they make the playoffs.

only thing i don't get is that this was probably the biggest mets game of the season and there were alot of empty seats in the orange boxes. what's up with that?

I don't know. I can only speak for myself, but seeing the way this team approached the final stages of the season has really disappointed me. Honestly, I could not bring myself to pay for a ticket to a game knowing how little these guys have cared. Up until the last two games, players could be seen smiling after errors and blown leads. It does not inspire. These guys acted like the could care less. And for the longest time they were so relaxed. I think they realize now that you just can't turn the urgency on whenever you feel like it. It has to be ingrained in your attitude from the start.

That being said, I think they sweep the Marlins and the Phillies lose one more game and they're in.

it's OK to admit you jumped the gun on the smack talk, bro... we still like ya.

Jaydh and Briggs had incessant garbage trash talk about the Yankees. I hope they come back to the Yankees' thread now!

you know, i don't understand why there are mets fans talking about the yankees in the beginning of the year when every year they struggle in the beginning and turn it on this time of year. that is why i kept my mouth shut about them. now we jinxed ourselves and looking at a playoff-less season while the yankees have a good shot at going to the world series. i remember that in the beginning of the season the mets are the frontrunners to make the world series. we can't point fingers and say its the bullpen. i mean, look at the national league. do any teams have a bullpen that blows you away? phillies had an awful bullpen but they find ways to win. we can't do anything right, hit, field or pitch so whose fault is that? i am also tired of willie protecting his guys. hey, man up and say that these guys are playing like they don't want it. its gut check time and it was gut check time earlier this week and they did not respond. now we can either get knocked out of the playoffs completely ( most likely scenerio), tie with phillies and play a one game playoff against them AT philly when they are on a 9 game winning streak against us ( second likely scenerio) or if we are lucky phils lose more games than us over the weekend when a week ago they played and swept washington at washington and florida love playing spoilers- ask the cubs ( least likely scenerio). it doesn't look good and i will call for willie's head if he fails. we can blame minaya all we want with not improving the bullpen but willie's decision and leadership quite frankly sucks at a time we need him to step up the most. that is the difference between him and torre. torre KNOWS when to step up and randolph is lost. (p.s. misterearl, where have you been? you said that the mets will turn it around. you are right about that but not about the direction.

djsu - I've been through worse moments as a Mets fan. I just can't remember them right now.

This afternoon, I'm lighting some orange and blue iincense and resorting to my Tommie Agee baseball card and chanting the name of Ron Swoboda (who I met in the boliled crawfish line at Jazz Fess in New Orleans) every half hour.

Forward.

Earlier I actually wanted the Mets and Yankees to both make the playoffs. But after a bunch of you Met fans acted like jerks about the Yankees when they were out of the playoffs, it's hard not to take pleasure in this historic collapse!

Go Cubbies. My Cubs are in but their pitching won't hold in the second season.

Wow. Unbelievable.
Go ahead and take whatever pleasure you want- The most obnoxious fans on both sides of any rivalry are the loudest- while the majority just loves the sport and roots for their team.
I'm going to the Saturday game. We're still in it as bad at it is. I was upset to see Shea so empty on Thursday night. No other words, really- we'll see if the Mets have what would be a miracle left in them.
PS I decided a couple days ago to stop drinking alcohol until the Mets win a game. Hopefully I won't have to wait till Spring Training.
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

Mets have to win the last 2 and Phillies have to lose last 2, while possible......it ain't gonna happen!! Phillies play hustle ball, Mets just play!! I have been a Mets fan for a long time, I have never been this disappointed. I hope I'm wrong on the "it ain't gonna happen" statement.

I have never been so disappointed about a team...ugh, imagine they lose today and the Phillies win...we're done! DONE! a whole summer of watching this team, with the expectations of winning a pennant, will be gone before the sun sets.

And all we want from the Knicks is a .500 record and an eigth seed! That is just disgusting and pathetic. If baseball had as many opportunities for teams enter the post season as basketball, the Mets would be just fine. There would be ZERO chance for the Knicks if they were an MLB team.

And for those who rip on Willie, they should just shut the F up. This is not his fault. In fact, Mr. Minaya is the one to blame, along with Rick "the Mullet" Peterson. What's scary is that Minaya kind of reminds me of Zeke.

Fellow Mets fans...your Post-mortem Season has COME!

Oh yeah...Let's Go.........Knicks!

yeah, a whole summer of expectations have to wait until next year. however, it will produce a winter of a flurry of moves. minaya can't rest on his laurels like last year and just sign an injured bullpen pitcher. and i do blame willie. the mets have more talent than any other nl team on paper even if the bullpen sucks. so whose fault is it if that team severely underachieves? not minaya. unlike my beloved football giants, willie HAS the personell to not only make the playoffs but seriously compete for the nl crown. so i blame EVERYONE. minaya for not doing enough with trades in the off season and during the season ( except the castillo deal, the best deal in awhile), wille and mostly the frigging players for not taking the game seriously. they're not dancing and laughing anymore in the clubhouse are they? true professionals.

You're right man. I can appreciate that it sucks to have your team collapse. I got my little immature rant out of the way. Sorry!

After 160 games the Phillies are in first place for the first time in 07. Unbelievable. The only thing that I enjoy about this collapse is watching Keith Hernandez and Lee Mazzili try to look composed. Both of those guys look like they want to go into the locker room and kick some butt.
