there isn't a team out there that will pick up his salary off waivers... buying him out so he can go & sign w/a contender & screw us in the playoffs isn't smart either... we need to get his head back on straight & work on his mechanics... maybe send him down to Tampa to work w/Connors.

he hasn't hit 100mph since last season & he hasn't thrown nearly as many sliders this season... maybe there's an arm issue that we're not aware of... or maybe he's just cycling off the HGH.

as for the Gagne to BOS trade, there's nothing we could have done to prevent that... there's no way in Hell i would have given up Kennedy or Melky for a 2 month rental of a pitcher coming off major arm surgery... if there was a shot he'd sign an extension, i may be willing to part w/Kennedy, but Boras is his agent & Gagne wants to go someplace where he can close.

I agree the cost was prohibitive for us to get involved. The BoSox actually gave up a prized, 17 yr old international prospect in the package...might end up coming back to bite them, but b/c they're in first it made more sense for them to give up more to make a big push for now. Not worth the Yanks doing anything too shortsighted for a 2 month rental being out of the mix right now. Kennedy has been a stud all throughout the minors and will be ready by September to make a few spot starts. Melky Cabrera has really come into his own as a starter...hitting way over .300 w/ over an .800 OPS since he became the regular starter in center. He batted .368 in July and is only 23...he's coming along quite nicely.

Even with all that I think the Rangers were asking for more from the Yanks than what they asked of the Red Sox, which kinda sucks...

just par for the course... every team expects more from the Yankees in trades... it's been that way for the longest.

yankees down 8-0 after 2 innings.

score 8 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to tie it, including betemit 3 run shot from the left side of the plate.

What about their WHIP's? Myers is 1.26, Feliciano is 1.15. Ok, that makes up for Myers having a better ERA. The point is that Myers is as good as Feliciano despite your claims to the contrary.

Dear Diary,

Today I got to come in before the 2nd inning. When they brought me in to pitch to a lefty with the bases loaded(since i am only a specialist, unlike feliciano) I walked the batter but the earned run wasn't mine so it was okay. They took me out, today was a good day.

No contender, certainly not Cleveland or Seattle, will add a better pitcher than Phil Hughes to their rotation for the stretch run.

Phil Hughes you're my hero. He is nothing special right now.

yes, the Mets have so much brighter pitching prospects like Mike Pelfrey & Philip Humber.

i don't need to re-read anything. you were knocking phil hughes because of his shaky outing the other day... i'm saying you should check out your own team before you criticize anyone the Yankees have coming up... Hughes & Chamberlain are widely recognized as 2 of the best pitching prospects in baseball right now.

good for them...again, when someone says Hughes will be the best SP addition to a playoff team it's easy to knock when he gives up 6 runs in 4 innings to the royals.

he's young so he's going to take his knocks on the way... you have to remember this was his 1st start back from injury at the ML level... the game he got injured he was pitching a no-hitter into the 7th vs. the Rangers, so excuse Yankee fans for being high on this kid when just about every scout in the league projects him to be a legitimate Ace someday.

it's common for new pitchers to do well in their first game since no one has seen them before.

Justin Verlander gave up 9 ER in his first 11 IP in '05 when he got called up... don't judge a pitcher by his first couple outings.

BREAKING NEWS: Former Husker pitcher called up to New York Yankees
BY MITCH SHERMAN
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Joba Chamberlain has been summoned to the major leagues and is scheduled to pitch in relief of Roger Clemens Tuesday night as the New York Yankees visit the Toronto Blue Jays.

Chamberlain, a 21-year-old former Nebraska All-American, received word of the promotion Monday, according to his father, Harlan Chamberlain, and immediately flew from Scranton, Pa., to Toronto.

The Yankees have not officially announced the move.

"To be happening this quick, it's just a dream," the elder Chamberlain said. "It's a dream that was always there, but to achieve it this quick, it's unbelievable. It's surreal."

The Yankees, 62-50, have rushed to groom Chamberlain as as a late-inning relief option to pitch before All-Star closer Mariano Rivera. Despite its beleaguered bullpen, New York has won 18 of 25 games since the All-Star break and moved into a tie with Detroit for the American League wild-card lead Monday after a 5-4 defeat of the Blue Jays.

Chamberlain, the No. 41 pick in the 2006 draft, compiled a 9-2 record with 125 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings over 15 starts at Class A Tampa, Class AA Trenton and Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before moving to the bullpen.

Since July 30, the hard-throwing right-hander has dominated in three relief appearances, striking out 10 and allowing one hit in four innings. Chamberlain fanned five of six Buffalo batters over two innings Saturday in his most recent Class AAA outing.

The Lincoln Northeast graduate owns a 2.45 earned-run average for the season, his first as a professional.

The Yankees finish their six-game road trip Sunday before returning to Yankee Stadium for seven games against Baltimore and Detroit.

Harlan Chamberlain said he expected his son to handle the promotion well. As for the father, he was "elated" Monday night after spending seven hours on the phone, he said, and hopes to see Joba as a big-leaguer in person soon.

well, we'll soon see if this kid can be our K-Rod this year... God knows, this team desperately needs an arm like that in our BP to setup for Mo.
